Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good Tuesday morning. Rain expected very late tonight, but a decent day today.
I will explain about DD later, after I do personals.
Pinky, I feel so bad for you and all the farmers out there! I am sure our farmers here in Wi are behind, but not that much. We have a farm field next to us on one side, and behind us, bordering our bedrooms, and they have been plowing. DH thinks from what I told him that was going on while he was in the hospital that they were able to plant, but we are wondering what they planted. Will be fun to watch and see what grows. He thinks one of the fields a little past those fields will be hay. Good luck to you all, I am hoping your weather finally clears. Isn't it just astounding the weather all over the country so far this year? You sound like my DD2, they too had 2 graduations parties last weekend! It is that time of the year!
Gareth, that is too bad, that you had to walk indoors. Oh my god, it must have been really chilly, to have to turn on the furnace!! They had been predicting 80 for Thursday, now it is down to 73. That is super, about the woman who was going to have the surgery!! That must have been what she needed, to just get in the WW mind frame. Lol, I got a charm in the mail yesterday from WW, for loosing 5 pounds. I had not even noticed that I did!!
Marsha, I really believe you can get back into the WW game. You are doing really good by walking Mitzi most days. I agree with Anngie, you are the parent, but I do remember my daughters at that age...it is a fine line. Good that you have that purse to hang over her head. Yes, true about the pills, I just have that brainwashed in me about getting hooked on them, after seeing so many stories about how health care is prescribing them for any kind of pain, and then the patient getting depended on them.
Carol, I would say you had a busy weekend!! Sorry about your DGS, poor baby! Yesterday while waiting to be called in for therapy, in the main waiting area was a young father with his little boy. That little guy was so cute, walking around like they do, kind of stumbling, someone asked how old he is, the dad said 13 months. He finally looked at me and I said hi and waved at him and he had the biggest smile, it was so cute!! Both of my daughters are done having kids but it sure would be nice to run into someone I know that has one, just to hold for a little bit.
Robin, good to hear about your stomach. Do you have any idea what it was? That is how it was when we were raising our daughters too. Boys were just treated differently. With the way things are now, I think parents have to be even more vigilant with their daughters, what with the dark web, and all the kidnapping for sex trafficking. I am truly glad I am done raising my kids, but of course worry about my 3 grand daughters. Is your DH going to get something to take for the strep? Good luck with him.
Anngie, I totally agree with you about being the parent, but as those kids get to adulthood, and especially had a taste of living on their own, that fine line is even finer. Wow, your grandson 2 next week!! Where does the time go? I see your 2nd grand son's birthday is the 8th of July...our first grand child and our one and only grand son's birthday is July 6th. Originally my DD2 and her DH were hoping to have the baby on the 4th of July, but I was hoping they wouldn't. To me that is just like having a birthday on any other holiday. I don't care for that, for the child. Then they were hoping to have him on the 7th. What with the year being 2007, the month being the 7th month, they wanted his date of birth to be 7-7-07. Lol, they were 1 day off.
About DD: the insurance company, for some reason she did not share with me, is requiring her to loose the 30 pounds first, in order for them to cover the surgery. She will not be doing WW, as the Bariatric surgery place she is going to require her to go thru their nutritionist with a diet plan, which to me sounds very strict. She can not eat any fruit. And of course no pasta, rice etc. She sees the nutritionist I think once a month. She posted on FB yesterday that she lost 6 pounds already....but to me people who are extremely over weight do loose a lot right away. So I am sure she can loose that 30 pounds, but the reason she is having the surgery, (which is why she would not be real good at doing WW), is, she has to loose maybe 250 pounds, to be at a good weight. I think she is to the point where surgery is the only option, and the way they are teaching her to eat right now, is probably how she has to eat afterwards.
Online shopping went ok, something I need to learn more about.
Therapy went very well. Then in the afternoon DH and I did more stretches, and forgot to put the roll of a towel under my ankle, for the stretch where DH, as I lay on my back, presses down on my knee cap, to straighten it. OMG! After 2 of those, the pain was horrendous! Needless to say we had to stop that exercise. I suffered in pain the rest of the day, and night, and even now with icing, I can not get past that pain. GRRR!! If I did not have bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck.
Going to look at the online shopping at Walmart today, to see how that works, but otherwise not much other than laundry to get done today.
Have a nice day!

Karen - interesting explanation about your daughter. I wish her well on her journey.
Last night I ended up at ds' place helping him pack. He needs a lot of help - he is no where near ready - but I also found out his lease on his current place goes through June so he has plenty of time to cart things back and forth in his vehicle and it's really more about getting the big things like the furniture down there. I'm going back tonight but I think I will focus on packing things that are in the furniture and then move on to the other things like the kitchen.
Dog walked this morning. Beautiful morning but still a bit chilly. Met my buddy and we did our longer walk.
I have never reported back on the Instant Pot. I really like it. I have used it quite a bit and I have made some things I wouldn't ordinarily try. Last night I made a lentil curry which was really good. I didn't expect dd to like it and she did. DH had leftovers for dinner but tasted the curry and told me to put it on the regular rotation. So far I'm definitely getting my money's worth out of it.

Karen, that is a lot to lose, so I can see why they would want her to lose the 30. Maybe they want to see if she will be able to sustain the weight loss. Some people have the surgery then gain the weight back. I know it is hard to keep track of everyone's children, but is she the DD that was having health issues a year or so ago? Sorry that your exercises caused you so much pain. I thought you were going to take the pain killers when that happened. Did you like the things they picked for you from the shopping, and just forgot certain things that you might have remembered had you been walking around? I know that happens sometimes, although I forgot something when I was in the supermarket! My DH did start an antibiotic, but only this morning. He had me searching the house for it yesterday, but I didn't think to check his car, which is where it was. He got it this morning and started taking it. I have no idea if he has strep, as he hasn't been able to talk enough to tell me what the doctor said, and he has been sleeping most of the time I have been at home. However, last night when I was at temple I heard that there has been a very bad viral infection going around the neighborhood, which sounds a lot like what DH has.
Marsha, glad you like the instapot, although what you made is definitely not something I would make. What I really like to make are sheet pan dinners, which I think are just as easy prep, if not easier. Maybe they come out a little better because of my convection oven, but the other day I marinated thin chicken cutlets in balsamic vinegar, a bit of olive oil, and spices, and just put them in the same oven I was roasting asparagus in. That was a very easy one, but I have made other things that I really like, like fajitas, and Chinese dishes.
Marsha, of course you helped DS pack, I would be doing the same. I know you mentioned that he was moving closer to his DGF's job, and talked about him working from home, but remind me where they are moving.
We are back down to the low 60's today, maybe we will get up to 70, but for me that's perfect. We were at 85 yesterday, so a big cool down. Nothing exciting going on today, except we get to order lunch from someplace that we all like but DH does not.

Robin - if I told you the name of the town ds is moving to it would be meaningless to you so suffice it to say he's a bit over an hour away in a town smaller than where we are now. I'm not upset that he's leaving this area but I had always wanted him to move to a real city, at least for a few years for the experience of living somewhere more metropolitan with more opportunity, more diversity, more to do. So I'm not happy but it's not up to me. And so far dgf is not real happy with her new job so I can't imagine how this will all play out. If they survive this upcoming year then I think they will be ready to get engaged. It will be a test. Sheet pan dinners sound good and easy. right now the instant pot is a new toy but I'm having fun. And I must say pot roast in it comes out amazing. And hard boiled eggs are a snap now.

Another dreary, gloomy day and even windier than yesterday with a wind advisory from 1-10PM and only in the 40's. Rain is moving in and sounds like it'll rain most of the day. Sounds like tomorrow I'll finally be able to walk outdoors again. Maybe even finally shut the furnace off for good until Fall.
Karen, from what I understand with any weight loss surgery you have to lose some weight first. We had a member too years ago that had over 200# to lose and came to WW to lose what she needed to have weight loss surgery. She never did have the surgery but went on to lose even over 200# with WW.
Robin, hope DH feels better soon! Is he all recovered from having teeth pulled?
Marsha, I know so many love the Instapot including my DS. I've never thought I'd use one much since I really don't cook all that much.
Anngie, I hadn't heard of Lillian Boxfish Takes a Walk so looked it up. It doesn't sound like my kind of book. I'll be curious though to hear your review.
Carol, did you get rested up from your fun weekend?
Pinky, is it drying out there yet? Seems like there's been rain and bad weather all over.

Hi Friends--a nasty day here with high winds and cloudy and only 50 degrees but at least it hasn't begun to rain yet--that is later this afternoon now they say. The fields are saturated and many people are saying they have wet basements that have never been wet before. I talked to my DSIS who lives an hour away and they are one of those who have water in their basement and never have before. They had to cut their carpet up down there and take it out in pieces as it was dripping wet. Such a mess everywhere and rain is forecasted pretty much every other day through Memorial weekend. Not good. DH and DS who works more with the insurance than DS#2 have been constantly busy yesterday and this morning with insurance customers wondering about prevent plant options. And of course many are changing their corn around to plant earlier varieties which are getting hard to get with it being wet everywhere. It is not a good situation. I think right now even if we had sunshine everyday for close to a week they could probably get back in the field.
Karen---wishing your DD much success in her WL journey. She does have a ways to go but guessing if everyone supports her and keeps her encouraged that will be big.
Marsha---nice of you to help your DS and the added bonus of some one on one time with him. Hope he is happy with the move. My DD and DDIL's love their InstaPots. DD doesn't even buy yogurt anymore she makes her own in it and it is wonderful.
Robin---hope your DH feels better soon and doesn't share with you----I would be taking my airbornne if I were you. There is some nasty virus going around here as well and DGD is finally getting over it. I like sheet pan dinners as well.
Gareth---not much drying going on although guessing this wind has to help some today but with rain starting later today we will probably go backwards. How is fieldwork going in your area---do you hear about it?
My phone just beeped that moderate rain possibly starting in 15 minutes---UUUGGGGHHHHH!!! Sorry I'm guessing you are all getting tired of hearing me complain about it.

Pinky - Complain as much as you want and as often as you want. We are here to listen. No judgement here. I meant to ask you - and I think I typed it last week but never posted - were you raised on a farm or did you marry into it?
Gareth - you are getting crummy weather too! Will you stay in for the rest of the day?

Marsha, wish I was in for the day. I have to go to work later.
Pinky, I haven't really heard how fieldwork is going here but I imagine it has to be behind how wet it's been. I'm curious too if you were raised on a farm or married into it.

Karen, interesting about your DD's diet. Why no fruit? I hope it works out for her.
We had rain early this morning. Thunderstorms were predicted, but if there were any I didn't hear them. It's rather muggy with the humidity.
I think you all are right about worrying more about daughters being out late & driving than with sons. The first time DD drove home from college by herself, she followed a guy from our area. I know that was helicopterish, but about half the drive is on a 2 lane state highway and if anything happened between towns, she would have been isolated. I also told her not to stop at unattended rest stops especially after dark. I watch too many of those true crime shows on Oxygen and other channels. She never had any trouble and drove to North Carolina and back to Texas. I started to say DS never had any trouble either, but once somehow he got in a ditch and a stranger stopped and helped. My kids used to make fun of me because I would wait up for them, but I'm a night owl so I probably would have been up anyway.
Robin & Karen, I hope both of your DHs are better and you, too.
Yes, I got rested up from the weekend. I did take a nap yesterday afternoon. It was nice of DS and DDIL to take to the play. Even though it wasn't great, we still had a good time.
When we've gone out to eat with DD, DSIL and DGS, DGS sits in the high chair and look around smiling at everyone like "here I am, so cute, give me some attention." His birthday is the end of December. DD quit using birth control and didn't expect to get pregnant right off so they were surprised. Of course, this year he was just turning one so it didn't matter. I have heard of some kids celebrating their holiday birthday 6 months later or earlier however you want to look at it so his would be in July. I don't what they plan to do.

Marsha and Gareth---I was raised on a farm so I know what all comes with it, however my dad never had much for cattle around so that was a new thing for me. When I was younger he had sheep so that could be trying also during the lambing season. He never had many just enough to keep the grass down in the pasture and in the trees he would fence off for them to eat it. I guess it was enough that I learned what it was all about. My dad more so enjoyed just the farming the land part of it.
Actually I should thank everyone for listening---I love our booklover group here and how we are always there for each other no matter what our walk of life is!!!! Thank you Thank you!!!
Carol---your DGS sounds like such a sweetie and I love when little ones sit like that with the "Here I Am" look about them. So dang cute and precious! Our DS#2 birthday is Dec. 29th and he often choose to celebrate his birthday with his friends on his 1/2 birthday. I usually gave him a choice of what he wanted and more times than not he liked the summer party. Not only did he have something to look forward to(instead of Christmas and Birthday celebrations all in a weeks time) with our weather in our parts he could enjoy doing outside summer things for his party which he couldn't do if he had a Dec. party.
With that said who knows if it will even be summer weather the end of June this year---watching our local weather today they were showing pictures of snow in the Black Hills. They are expecting 9 inches of snow and weather is not good out there. They showed an ambulance and a highway patrol vehicle had gone in the ditch due to treacherous roads---its just crazy! Tourist season has already opened up out there and especially Mt. Rushmore. I guess if anyone from the south is out there for there vacations yet they probably are not impressed. This is clear on the opposite side of the state than us but OMG!!! When Carol mentioned muggy weather I bet we will have our share of that this summer as well along with huge infestations of mosquito's YUCK!!!

One thing I forgot to mention was Carol's question of eating no fruit. I have been studying the Keto diet plan and am very interested but that is one thing I am seeing about it that especially in the early stages of the diet they advise little fruit. It appears berries are okay in smaller quanities but citrus seems to be ruled out---interesting I thought!

Definitely Pinky, complain all you want. So sorry about those wet basements, been there, done that. Years ago we had a noreaster and the water table came up high enough that the lowest point in the basement, which was really in the center of the house, got water. We trenched the back half of the basement at that time, then less than 10 years ago had to trench the front half. Long Island used to have a lot of farms out east, especially potatoes, but most of the farmland was sold off for housing developments, or vineyards. Certainly crazy weather all over, snow on Mt Rushmore for Memorial Day weekend sounds nuts.
Gareth, your weather certainly doesn't sound too good, especially for this time of year.
Carol, glad you got such a kick out of DGS, so great that you got to see them.

Hello everyone, I’m sorry I’m so late in posting! Just getting ready for Thursday’s trip to NC.
Pinky, never worry about complaints with us! We’re here to listen at all times! I hope your area weather doesn’t become a financial issue for all the ranchers there. I’ll bet it’s raining there now, right!
Marsha, I remember helping DS2 move - what a job. He really needed the help and was appreciative as I’m sure your son is! We’re good moms!
Karen, DD seems committed - always a good sign. I give her a world of credit. I’m sure it’s not an easy journey leading up to this kind of surgery.
Robin, I wonder if DH’s infection is related to his extractions? I know they were a few weeks ago, but I know problems with teeth can effect you in many ways. Especially stomach issues.
Gareth, wow! She did it all on WW? Now I’m wondering what was the most weight lost on WW? Have you ever heard?
Carol, I think I missed something - is DD expecting?
I’m not sure how widespread the store is but I just read on FB that the Dress Barn is closing. There was only one in this area (and not close by) so I seldom shopped there.

Anngie, I don't think so because there is a virus going around here, and it sounds a lot like what he has. Funny that he just was at the doctor for his annual physical on Friday. Maybe someone was sick there? I did hear about Dress Barn closing all it's stores. There are 650 Nationwide. There are quite a number on Long Island. One is not too far from me and they recently closed it to remodel the whole store. Interesting what might go in there. It is in a shopping center that has some outlet stores, odd ones like Van Heusen, Corningware, Bass shoes, Carter's and Osh Kosh for baby/kids clothes, so could be interesting. It's also right across from the WW that I used to go to.
When my older DS moved, first I helped DDIL when she moved from her apartment to his, temporarily. Actually DS & I did it, she was away for the weekend. Then I helped them pack up and move out of his, and clean it so they got their deposit back, and then move into their new apartment. They had a mover, but I also did a lot of moving in my car. My younger DS never wanted me to help him move. He was much more independent when it came to that. The one I really could have lived without, that I did, was moving him into the fraternity house that he lived in Sophomore year of college. I took my older DS & DDIL to Bed, Bath & Beyond, and to a bunch of other places before they moved into their apartment. When I wanted to do the same for my younger one, they had already order everything online.
DH is feeling a little better. He said he will actually come downstairs. I have some chicken soup in the freezer I will see if he wants. I can make him matzo balls to go with it, I still have a box of the mix left, which is fine, and it's easy to swallow.
