Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. It rained over night, from what the weather guy said. It looks like it is just about dried up outside. Wow, weather guy just said there were high winds over night! Lol...I slept thru whatever we had.
Marsha, thank you. What a good mom you are! If either of my DD's would move now, I am sorry, but I would not be able to help, and I don't mean anything about my knees, I just mean I am old enough now that I have to think of myself, and that means no help to them. But of course, you are way younger than me. Good to hear about the instant pot. Maybe that is something I will file away for a christmas present for both DD's and I.
Robin, the DD (DD1) is the one that is extremely overweight. DD2 is the one that had been so sick and had that mass removed. She lost around 100# all on her own, but I have to say also, it was a lot of her being sick too that helped loose the weight. So when we get together as a family, it is so striking, between the 2 daughters, how one is so heavy and one is so thin. And I had just mentioned to DD2 a few months ago that I can not believe by her loosing all that weight, that it did not inspire DD1 to loose some! Then she comes out with this surgery thing. The only thing I worry about, is her DH and 2 kids getting behind her and supporting her fully. They are all heavy, (of course!) so they should do the diet she is doing, also. Sorry to go on so long about it. Hope your DH is feeling better today.
Gareth, we had some pretty good winds over night, I guess some areas lost power from it, we didn't tho. It is supposed to clear up then rain come back later, so if you were here you could sneak in a walk outside. Just between you and I, I would be the same way, stick to WW to loose the weight. Speaking of WW, I received a charm in the mail a couple days ago, for loosing 5 pounds. Lol, I had not even noticed that I lost that much, as my brain is not totally into it yet, but I keep tracking my weight in the app every Friday. My appetite has gone down some, and I don't drink as much wine as before the surgeries, so I guess that is helping.
Pinky, please feel free to vent here anytime....this coming from the queen of whining....lol!!! We all love hearing about your ranch/farm life and how it is affecting your whole area. You and your DH have a lot on your shoulders, so you need a place to unload some of it. This year of rain is just beyond horrendous! I don't know how much all the farmers can take. Sometimes I worry that someone is trying to tell us something....
Carol, that fruit thing threw me for a minute, but I know when I did Atkins years ago, you could not eat fruit. I think it has something to do with sugar. There was no sugar allowed on Atkins, especially while you were on the part of the diet that was cleaning you out. Eventually you phased fruit back in, but very limited. I hope DD can get thru the hard part of the diet, then she will succeed. How cute, about your grand child sitting in the high chair! I love it when there are little kids at places to eat, and they are being so good.
Anngie, have a safe trip tomorrow!! We have a Dress Barn here too, and I was sad to hear about the closing, but had to admit, I had not been there in years. Either I could not find my size, or if I did, it looked like old lady clothes. (and pricey!) So in the end, I guess it does not affect me. Funny tho, I had decided to start looking around for sun dresses to wear this summer, since they are so comfy.
Lol, I am really getting into this online shopping thing. I have an order ready to pick up at one of our bigger grocery stores, that I will get to after therapy this morning. I have a list started on the Walmart app, but that can wait a day or two. This might be a good idea for me, as I won't be doing any impulse shopping!
Have a nice day everyone.

Just back from walking. Yes, finally outdoors! It's warmer and the sun is shining but it's still SO windy. At least it's a warm wind for a change and no rain. We had our share yesterday. Rain chances again starting Fri and all weekend....sigh...
Karen, online shopping is a good thing for someone like you now, busy working moms, homebound and the elderly. It would've been great for my Mom too towards the end of her life. I was her shopping service then. I'd have had to do the shopping online though for her since she didn't have a computer and had no concept really what a computer even was. I think she thought it was like a TV since she'd ask if I'd watched anything good lately on the computer!
I've never been in our Dress Barn here. I remember being in one out of town years ago with a friend. She loves Dress Barn but I wasn't impressed so never went to the one here when it opened.
Gotta hit the shower and get ready for work...

Good Morning! Extreme winds during the night and rain all night long so miserable weather. The winds have died down but there is still some light rain going on. Supposed to quit until late afternoon and start up with the rain again. Guessing we have another 1 to 2 inches. Our local news station said Mt. Rushmore was closed today as well as Keystone and Hill City(2 fun touristy towns by Mt. Rushmore) due to the heavy snow out there. And OMG there are 3 schools out there that have a 2 hour late start due to the snow and horrible conditions. They didn't say this but it must be almost a record setter to have snow like that on the 21st of May-----what is going on in this crazy world, even the weather is all messed up. Karen---sounds like you have this online shopping figured out and I like that thought on the impulse buying---makes sense. Out of sight out of mind!! Thanks for giving me the okay to vent and understanding. So I am devastated by Dressbarn closing----it is my favorite place to shop for clothes. Dang with all of these places closing what are we going to do??? Very sad news to me but I suppose in the end it will save me some dollars right? Office work is calling my name today so better get a move on as I haven't even showered yet and it is 8:30 already. Unusual for me but I took longer than usual with my chores this morning---feeding the horse, the cats and my bottle calf which now I have to add to more calves to. Yes the guys brought home 2 for me yesterday. One with a mom with little milk and another who's mom is sick. It takes longer when they are used to having a mom because they are crazy little buggers and not used to people trying to get a nipple in their mouth. I get a good work out attempting this sometimes. Of course, once they figure out I have food they soon become my best friends. The guys always laugh because when they hear my voice they come running to the gate. Have a great day friends!!

Karen - I agree about the Dress Barn here. I have not been in there much, and when I was in there it seemed the dresses were either very frumpy or very trampy. I'm sure the inventory selection varies by location and here it really isn't great. But the last thing we need is more stores closing in that mall.
Pinky - snow at this time of the year is just stupid. Oooo bottle feeding calves. Sounds adorable to this city dweller but I'm sure it's not so adorable to you.
Gareth - glad you got outside to walk.
No walk for me this morning. Bad weather, but that's just an aside as dd asked me to bake cookies last night and I was too tired when I got home from ds' place so I baked this morning. And did a load of laundry and emptied and filled the dishwasher. So I was busy. Last night another hour and a half helping ds. He gets one more night out of me and I told him before I get there he should clean up, throw away garbage, put away things that are sitting around, gather up his laundry, stack packed boxes out of the way so that we can pack more efficiently. I can't help him tomorrow as I'm leaving town Friday and I need one evening to do laundry and pack for my trip.

The Dress Barn here in town closed back in October. I went in and there was a sign announcing they were closing and there would not be a clearance sale, all the merchandise was going to another store in the Dallas area. There were also 2 saleswomen in there who were not interested in helping anyone. They just stood around talking. I suppose they didn't care since they would be losing their jobs. I didn't go there very often, but I got my MOB dress there. They had good sales. Pinky, one of my friends is like you. Dress Barn is where she went for clothes. Body and Bath Works moved into the old Dress Barn place which means 1 less store at our old mall. That leaves Dillards, Victoria's Secret, Burlington as the main stores in the mall.
Anngie, no, my DD isn't pregnant. I was talking about when they got pregnant with DGS. She had surgery for endometriosis and had been on birth control for several years and thought she might not get pregnant so soon. I had the same surgery and it was about 6 months before I got pregnant.
It is already 78 degrees here. Right now the sun is shining, but we have a 50% chance of rain. This weekend is supposed to be beautiful which is nice since it is a holiday weekend. Wow, Pinky, is hard to believe snow in late May!

We’re having a beautiful day here today. I wish we had this all year around! Not a chance.
Today is our 43rd anniversary. I’m spending my time packing and DH is mowing the lawn! Speaking of snow - two days before our wedding it snowed here 2”. I couldn’t believe it but luckily it was gone by the next day. That never happens here (in May) but of course it did that year! haha. We’re leaving early tomorrow morning and driving straight through - except for three quick stops. I just want to get there! Awhile back we were discussing where to get a nice dress, well, our options are getting fewer, aren’t they! I wonder if Dress Barn will have good sales just to clear out their inventory.
Have a a great day everyone!

Happy anniversary, Anngie! I hope you have a good and safe trip.
I get e-mails from Dress Barn and so far, they are the same as before. I don't know the date when everything will be closed, but I would not be surprised if there is a clearance. Does anyone shop at Coldwater Creek. It closed its stores several years ago and they are back at least on-line. I get e-mails from them, too, and sale catalogs occasionally.

Lots to read, but I did start to skim a bit.
Karen, no problem talking about anything, your DD's included. Maybe your DD will start cooking healthier for her family, and it will help them too. How old are her children? We all know one thing about weight loss, or maybe 2 things, easier said than done, and you can't tell anyone what to do when it comes to losing weight.
Pinky, unbelievable that they would have to close Mt Rushmore and other tourist towns because of snow.
Gareth, I guess we all have crazy weather.
Marsha, I agree that a lot of their things were frumpy at Dress Barn, but sometimes I could pick up something decent. I found they look better in pictures than what they have in stores.
Carol, sad that your mall is losing so many stores. We have a number of malls in our county, and some are better than others. The biggest one is 5 minutes from me. I can't tell you the last time I actually walked around it though. It has Macy's, Bloomingdale's, Nordstroms, JC Penney and Neiman Marcus. Plus countless other typical mall stores, both high end designer and others.
Anngie, happy anniversary. I guess the 1970's was a snowy decade. That was when it snowed in May when I was leaving college. I don't remember cold weather in 1976, but I do remember it getting up to 90 degrees one day in April, because it was the day we moved, and DH got 2 of his friends to help us move.
Pinky, 3 bottle calves now, that's a lot. You know me, I am always interested to hear about it.
Karen, glad you are getting into the online ordering. Sounds like it is perfect for you, and you will see the advantages. I think they really do a good job of picking out fruits and vegetables for you, and any meat as well, because they don't want people complaining.
My DH was still feeling really bad, so the doctor referred him to an ENT specialist, and he has Coxsackie. It's not as common with adults, but DH has had it twice before. It is extremely painful.
