Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Rain on it's way for a little while this morning, then clearing, then more rain for later this evening. Tomorrow a high of 82. But that will be short lived.
Gareth, lol, I too had to Google coxsackie! I had heard of it, years and years ago, but had no info of it in my brain. I would not want to try to live without Google!! Wow, what a scary situation, right where you work!! Like you said, obviously the guy was strung out on drugs. Isn't that nice that that seems to be getting more common in our society? Did you see the story on TV of the tornado in Jefferson City MO? My goodness, that car sales lot! Every day this week it seemed like there were tornadoes in the mid west.
Marsha, I don't know if you will see this today, so here goes, just in case. Wow, sounds like lots of work with DS! I did that with both DD's during their last moves. Both of them were quite a few years ago. If they move any time soon, I would not be helping. Just too much for me and my beat up body. I just saw on TV that the Farmer's market downtown starts up tomorrow, gee, it seems so early for that! Have a safe trip!
Robin, oh your poor DH! My mother and my DD2 had shingles, and they were miserable. Good luck to him, I will be thinking of him all weekend. I have to check into what is going on with my shingles shot. I guess Walgreen's forgot about it. DH is getting his 2nd one next week. Maybe I will ask the pharmacy he is going to if I can set it up to get mine there. We have been eating Smart Ones frozen dinners, my DH found 1 that he loves. They seem to be a perfect serving size for both of us.
Carol, I wish Aldi had online shopping, lol, I would go there. How is your weather? I was watching a live feed on Facebook last night of a tornado forming in northern Texas, on the border of OK, how scary! OMG, about the soda that was so old!! My mom did that, when she was going thru cancer, she was craving Sam's chocolate chip cookies and had all of us stopping there all the time to bring her the big pack of them. After she died, and we were cleaning out the house, we found those cookies all over! Lol, we also found tins of cash and change too, hidden in different spots, like in her bathroom linen closet. I sure hope I do not get that way!! Wow, you had a scary situation too, in that parking lot!! Glad you weren't in the store!
Pinky, WOW! How scary!! Good thing your DH is so alert, which sure pays, when you are out in public. Most of the time, when I am out and about, I am in my own little world. How was ladies night, last night?
Hi to Anngie.
DH lost his cath, and his staples yesterday, yay! He has to go back next week to have the stent removed. Still can not do much yet, still has a weight restriction, and can not do much stair climbing. He is in pain, and sleeps more. Otherwise he is improving.
Have an early therapy apt, today. Then to Walmart for my online order. Tomorrow we will get a planter to put at DH'S Dad's monument at the grave site, since he was a lifer in the Army. We will stop at our grave site to see if they have our monument on it yet. DH thinks not.
Have a nice day everyone.

Good MorningFriends! Rained here again in the night and I have to say I have never seen it so wet in our area in my lifetime. Crazy weather everywhere and feel so bad for those people affected by the tornados. What a mess. This afternoon the sun is supposed to come out and stay out Saturday and Sunday. Then cloudy and rainy again for Memorial Day. I really need to get some lawn mowed around here as it has been impossible to do so the last 10 days so you can imagine what a mess that is.
Karen---on that note be glad you don't have to mow your lawn anymore since your move and with both you and your DH not being able to do so right now. You were smart in making your move when you did. Glad your DH got rid of some of his extra's yesterday and good he is improving. Good luck at therapy today and remember soon this will all be behind you.
Safe travels and have fun to our travelers this weekend Anngie and Marsha!!!
Robin--aren't you going on a cruise or a trip soon as well?

Karen, glad that DH had staples and catheter removed, I am sure he will be feeling better soon, sometimes it takes a while to get over things. As far as being tired, I think they usually say 2 days for every hour you are under anesthesia. You are really getting into that online shopping! That's great for you that it is working out, and you can concentrate on yourself. Last night I had a Healthy Choice Power Bowl that I thought was really good, Cuban Roast Pork. I think I overcooked it a bit, it said 4 to 4 1/2 minutes and I had it in for 4 1/2. I bought it locally, but Target supposedly has them, so I will go look there for them. Another thing I like to do is use a non-meat Lean Cuisine or Smart Ones, and add a piece of fish. Sometimes I will use the Gorton's frozen tilapia, so really make it easy.
Pinky, sorry for all that rain! Hope the 2 days will dry things out a bit, but of course no one wants rain on Memorial Day. We are going to Alaska on our cruise. We are flying to Vancouver then cruising from there. We will go to Vancouver for 3 nights, then board the ship. Vancouver is supposed to be a great city. DH was there for a conference but I have never been.
Had a good night winning wise playing mah jongg last night. I did get some reading in yesterday for my book club book, so only have 75 pages left. I am anxious to hear what others think of it. There are parts I like and parts I don't. It is amazing that any book that deals with Native Americans talks about the pervasiveness of alcoholism. The thing I don't like about the book is that some chapters are very good, others sound like they are written by a different author, totally different tone. Some also have a bit too much street language for me.

For some reason, I had trouble getting to sleep last night. Also, I had to get up several times to go to the bathroom. I don't know what the problem was. I was afraid I was getting an UTI, but this morning everything is okay. I'm just really tired. I had some errands to run, but decided to stay in. I didn't want to drive even around town when I feeling so tired.
Karen, glad your DH is getting better. I know getting out the cath and staples helped. We found money all around my ILs house, mostly just change. There was a small box under one of the bed filled with money. We also found several old purses and they all had a little bit of money in them. Sometimes MIL's method of cleaning was to sweep things off surfaces into drawers. That was another place we found money.
Robin, I know several people who have gone on an Alaskan cruise and think it was the best ever. In fact, some friends are there now.
Our dishwasher quit working Wednesday. It is only 9 years old and this is the second time this has happened. I know appliances don't last like they used to, but 2 times seems like too much so we will be dishwasher shopping this weekend. We usually check out Consumer Reports before we go to the store. Since our kitchen isn't completely separate from the living room, I would like to get a really quiet one. DD & DSIL's is so quiet. I think it is a Bosch.
I think the tornado was further west from us. The floods are unbelievable. I can't imagine watching my house falling into a river.

Busy morning like my day off on Fridays always are. Pouring rain when I got up but had cleared off late morning and the sun came out so I headed out for a walk. A few blocks from getting back home it had clouded up again and started sprinkling. At least it just stayed sprinkles and wasn't a downpour. So far it hasn't rained but it's supposed to this afternoon. Rain chances every day until Thurs with the highest % being Mon.
Carol, I too had trouble getting to sleep last night and then when I did I got woke up by loud thunder that lasted for quite awhile that kept me awake so like you today I'm tired too. I'd have loved to have slept in a little later this morning but oh no, my bladder wasn't having any part of that!
Karen, glad to hear DH is catheter and staple free. Glad the online shopping is working out so well for you too. Here I know HyVee also delivers for a fee. I don't think that WM does though.
Pinky, lucky your DH was so alert to his surroundings. Scary how that could've turned out. I thought of you when I heard a dairy farmer in a small town close to us had a cow who had triplets which they say is rare. They showed them on TV. They were so cute! Have your cows ever had triplets?
Robin, I too have had several friends take Alaskan cruises and some more than once since they enjoyed it so much. All the places DS was in the service Alaska impressed him the most.

Robin---oh fun to be going on an Alaskan cruise---that is on my bucket list. Hope your DH is feeling better before you leave, when is your departure date? Glad you were luck at mah jongg last night. About the Native American books and alcoholism---- I think the books are portrayed that way as with the different reservations in SD I know alcohol is a way of life on most of them and not surprised that most books include that. A sad fact.
Carol---hope you are feeling better as the day goes on. I loved my Bosch in our old house and would have purchased another in a heartbeat even though ours quit after 12 years. Because we would be moving in a couple of months we didn't even have it looked at other than to ask about why the water didn't heat anymore and learn most likely it would be quite expensive to fix. Because of a package deal we were given that we liked when shopping for our new kitchen appliances and the particular store didn't carry Bosch they said they would think I would like an LG just as well and very comparable so got the LG although I was skeptical. I really like the LG just as well and very very quiet too. Just so you know, the Bosch does a wonderful job of cleaning but if you are one that likes to unload the dishes as soon as it finishes you may not like it. The Bosch has a different drying method and once the cycle is done and it shuts off it is still drying inside and takes awhile before the dishes are completely dry. I didn't mind but one of my sisters didn't buy one for that reason.
Gareth---we have never had triplets although a neighbor of ours has. Twins are the highest we have gone and we had an abundance of them in the earlier part of the calving season.

Pinky, thanks for the dishwasher info. We will check out the LGs.
I try to be more aware in parking lots, especially the big ones like Wal-Mart. A woman was robbed the lot at Sam's and then recently, 2 in the Wal-Mart lots. All of these were women unloading leaving their purse in the cart. Before I put my groceries in my trunk, I lock my purse in the car, keeping my key fob and phone with me and I lock my car door first thing when I get in. One of my friends keeps a baseball bat in her trunk and believe me, she would not hesitate to use it. I think I told you all, I watch true crime shows and there have been a couple where a man followed women around the store and then attacked them in the parking lot. We just have to be careful.
I rested a little bit earlier and am feeling better. I don't know what the matter was.
School is out here. Graduations are tonight and tomorrow. It seems early to be out, but they will have to go back earlier in August.

Gareth, can't imagine triplet cows, although there are plenty of dogs and other animals that have litters of multiples.
Pinky, I know it is true about alcoholism with Native Americans. I am not sure if there is anything they can do about it.
Carol, I can't remember how long our last dish washer lasted, but I would believe if it was only 9 years. We have a Bosch now. I agree that the way it dries can be annoying. One of the things is that plastic containers always end up still having water on them, but I normally run the dishwasher at night so if it takes 2 hours it doesn't bother me. The appliance brand that I would not get is Samsung. Our refrigerator is a Samsung and we are constantly having trouble with the ice maker, and it is a pervasive problem that the company will not stand behind. I have their front loading washer and dryer, and the washer has a tendency to smell mildewy unless you leave the door open after the load is finished. Sometimes there is water in the place that you put the detergent in also. The dryer is OK.
I always try to be careful about my purse in the supermarket, was just thinking today that I was holding onto it in the top of my cart while I was picking out oranges, then took it out and just put it over my shoulder. I was in a smaller market that is always packed with stuff, always crowded, so it is hard to move around. They have a great fish counter, and DH decided he was hungry for dinner but didn't know what he could eat that would be soft enough. I suggested fish, because I had been thinking about that earlier. He said yes! So very bland looking, he doesn't like salmon so the Chilean Sea Bass is white, and I am making mashed potatoes with it. DH is not a fish eater, whereas I could eat a different type of fish each day.
I have been wanting to go on an Alaskan cruise for a long time, DH did not. Then he got an email from a winery that they were having a tie in with a cruise on Celebrity, and we like them, so he decided we should go. I just spent half a day today making a reservation for a hotel in Vancouver using Marriott Points. I started looking, DH said they give you a bad room with points. Then he got an email from them saying we could book the Westin. Long story short, 4 phone calls later, with wrong books, promises of rooms that weren't happening, I had a supervisor take pity on me and gave us all 3 nights with points. We rarely use our hotel points. We use air miles a lot though.
