This thread is for anyone that has been away from healthy eating, had a gain and is recommitting. We accept all forms of healthy eating here, whatever that means to you. We touch base daily for accountability and to encourage one another. This is a judgment free zone.
We all struggle to get the weight off and keep it off. Sometimes this is a challenge, but we never give up and that is the key. Regardless of our situation or where we are in reaching our goal, we count on talking to each other every day and are blessed to have one another as friends.
Our motto is persistence, not perfection.

Good morning all. Quick post because I have a hair appointment this morning and need to get ready and also eat breakfast. I didn't sleep well last night so ended up getting up late and now I'm rushed. I'd really like to spend the morning on the sofa but it's not going to happen. No major plans today, a little shopping, the gym, dinner with DN at her house where we'll have our version of a Memorial Day BBQ but indoors and then we'll binge watch Jane the Virgin.
I may pop in to Aldi's and see what they have, hoping for a good price on avocados which are still $2 each at my supermarket. I also want to get a jicama which is only carried in one store around here (and of course not Aldi's or the supermarket).
Have a wonderful day ROs. Lora, did you get out for a hike early this morning?

Good Morning ROs...slept well, DH wants to know what we should do today...I told him I am heading to the gym (one or the other)and then we can do whatever..maybe go look for some herbs to plant...he has been wanting to do that. The kids & grandkids went to Busch Gardens (amusement park) yesterday and DS sent me some cute pics! I had a migraine yesterday, but still managed to overeat...aaggghhh!!! Today I am COUNTING! I just can't seem to reign it in lately.
Andi - good luck finding some cute earrings...I LOVE the idea of the ones from your DF's tux studs! I did my first ear piercings myself and the one is lower and disways - ha - so I have to be very careful....for years I bent the wires to try to make them look even...now I try to just wear a small post type there or wear a larger pair in my second piercing so it covers the first hole...just one more crazy thing to do - lol
Lora - I had to laugh at DH heading to the sofa for a 3 hr nap...well, there went your day.
Jana - How was the GS's "graduation?" You really have to walk a fine line all the time....so stressful - darn! Yippee with DD feeling like she is ready to move out...wow
Janet - the bbq sounds like fun... you need some fun just thinking about the darn car again.
RobinMD - I have made Andi's Norwegian rolls...pretty yummy breakfast type a treat for me...I just keep them in the freezer.
Waving to Amanda, RobinS, and anyone else I missed...bbl

Good morning friends! Andi, no early morning hike. I slept until 7:40, which I guess was too long because when I finally did get up it was with a bit of a headache. So trying to wash that out with coffee now. We might go ahead and get the grocery shop out of the way this morning though. I mean we could do it today, tomorrow or Monday, but around here on a holiday weekend, any of those days will be just as crowded as the others. Also thinking that maybe hiking isn't the best idea for DH. With his tooth still throbby, getting his heart rate up is likely to make that more painful. So maybe we'll just to a river stroll instead. It's on the way to the grocery store. On the path that we walked on while you were hear. It's not nearly as windy today, though that would certainly make it more pleasant. ha! Good luck with the avocados and jicama. Of course, you have to go to a 3rd place for jicama. I know that feeling so well. I'm thinking indoor bbq and tv binge sounds good Susie - I love fresh herbs, so am totally onboard with the herb garden idea!! In fact.....maybe something I want to think about too! Thanks! Lol. Chuckling at the self-ear piercing. I got mine done for my b.day when I was like 7 or 8. Then in my teens I added a 2nd hole to one ear myself. It was all the rage. I loved it until day 3 when I forgot I was hiding it and tucked hair behind my ear and my dad spotted it and made me take it out. "I'm not going to have my daughter walking around base looking like a hippie for all the world to see!" Cripes! Hippie! In 1980! Sigh....growing up in the home of a military officer, what can I say. Haha! Waving to everyone! Have a safe and happy day! Stay cool out there and don't forget your sunscreen.

Hi Everyone, I am waiting for the car to be finished. They are waiting for a part to be delivered. It is the rear brakes and they need to be replaced. The guy showed it to me and it really does need to be replaced. And I asked them about draining the air conditioning vent and the guy had already drained it and at a much lower cost than it would have if I took it to the dealer. Unfortunately, I think it will be a recurring issue. They say the water should drain on the side right to the ground but debri gets in the way and it gets clogged up. It would be a big job to investigate and fix so for now if they clear it periodically and maybe if I ckear any debri I see that may work. And if they can do it it will be cheaper than going to the dealer to do it. After its done I have to walk up and get the car. I really dont feel like doing school stuff. I have extended care this week plus the new child so not sure how much time I have to do it during the week. But I have something I can work on at home so maybe will do that instead. I dont wear earrings too much so on one ear it is harder to get the earring in when I do decide to wear them. Would it look weird to wear one? Lol. I have always thought about planting herbs too. I dont like having to spend money on a whole bunch when I just need a little bit. I have read/ heard about putting pieces into ice cubes and freezing them. Has anyone done that? Enjoy plans you made for the weekend. Just have the bbq tommorow. I am planning to go to the gym tommorow or maybe I will go later today instead. I kind of want to go to the Giant nearby so may do both today. Have a great day!!

Susie, I didn't know you'd made the rolls! I keep them in the freezer too. They warm up nicely in the microwave. I had hoped they would toast and get crispy in my toaster but they don't. I do love them anyway, have one most mornings. Sorry about the migraine and the snacking at night. You know I feel your pain. Like you I need to rein in the overeating. Here's to a better day for both of us! I've never had much success with growing my own herbs, although some grow really well. This issue is what to do with the copious amounts that are produced, when I am one person and only use a modest amount of herbs. Which ones will you buy?
I got my hair cut and colored and am going to try to grow it out a bit going forward. The stylist talked to me about something called American Wave which is like a really gentle perm with no ammonia, which would give my hair body and shape as it grows out. I've tried to grow it out in the past and get discouraged within a couple of months because it quickly looks ratty, so this might help with that. I'd like a change.
I love everyone's ear piercing stories. Wow, Lora, an extra earring and your dad thought you'd look like a hippie... My how times have changed. I had to wait until I was 16 and then my DM insisted I go to have it done at a doctor's office. My dermatologist did it but I can't say he got them lined up entirely evenly - I suppose he didn't have a lot of practice doing it... Hope you get out to do something fun today that doesn't bother DH's tooth. Miserable.
Janet, glad you're taking care of the car issues and for a reasonable price. I think the only way to get the ear that is more difficult is to wear earrings consistently, but maybe you don't want to do that.
Anyway, Macy's is having a jewelry sale this weekend so I'm sure that's one of the places we'll end up. I could also use a few more summer clothes but having gained a few pounds, again, I kind of don't feel like doing it this weekend. I'll also get the gym out of the way. It's gotten kind of overcast here so I'm not feeling the need to be outside. I keep forgetting to research and sign up for some hiking trips but I'm liking having a lot of free time on the weekend, takes me awhile to recover from the work week.

Hello, ROs,
I am just killing time today at the station. I hate doing 24 hour shifts now, with no one at home. I do a few 12 hour shifts on the weekends, but I felt bad about not pulling a 24 now and then. The money is too good, and I can't make ends meet without it, without hitting my savings at least a couple of times. So...I am here! Not complaining, I just have SO much I should be doing at home. I still have 3 days off after this, so when I get home in the morning, I will be happy that I worked. My ODD is going to be hiking in Harper's Ferry today, so she said she would stop by and feed my dogs their dinner. I had to laugh about the earrings...my aunt pierced mine when I was 14, with the ice cube and needle technique. I still have the little pearls that we put in, that night. After Mom passed away last year, I found a lot of her pretty earrings, some studs, some dangles. Some had special memories, because they were ones that Dad had given her over the years. Kind of bittersweet. Andi, I hope you find some cute earrings! I used to love wearing dangles, too! I just think they are a bit much, for the doctor's office, and definitely not good for EMS. I just love Aldi! I really wish we had a Trader Joe's here in the area, but no such luck. Jana, did you end up going? I hate being put in that position, and feeling compelled to do something, more than really wanting to do it. I hope you have plenty of time to get everything ready. Susie, I always plant some herbs in the bed outside my back door! I love the fresh ones, and always have at least chives and basil (my favorite is lemon basil, but I have regular, too). I brought a few things to eat today. I haven't had anything yet, but I brought some fresh berries, vanilla yogurt and pumpkin seed granola, some soup, and some saltines. I will buy a small salad, if we get a call and are out, but if not, I won't need to eat much anyway. I think I am going to get busy working on a budget plan for myself. Now that I am bringing in more money, I need to really pin things down, and see what my expenses are, and what I need to make to meet them. I got a very small (20 cents) raise at my full time job, but they said we might get another one later...I haven't had one in 3 years, and that was just 20 cents, too. It just isn't enough to live on. I am keeping my eyes open for another job, or to possibly sell my house...that is a whole 'nother can of worms! I hope to bbl. I'm going to go sit outside for awhile, and then think about eating a little something. Hope you all are having a great weekend so far.

Well, we're back for our adventure out and about. I can sure say one thing for sure, living this close to the lake really brings out ALL of the people on a holiday weekend. The local police, sheriff vehicles, etc. were also out in force. we saw the police boat out at the pier (which is unusual) as well as assorted EMS vehicles including the rescue helicopter stationed at different areas along the lake and river. Even saw the Animal Control truck with his light blue lights flashing on top pulled off the side of the road and helping a motorist who'd run out of gas...Lol. It's definitely an "All Hands on Deck" kind of weekend in Guntersville. On the way to the grocery we stopped and walked along the river walk. It's hot, but the humidity is not too terrible, and we mostly had shade and a constant breeze.
The most incredible thing happened. I finally saw my first bald eagle since moving here. It was HUGE and incredible and so majestic as it flew low over the water and then crossed the shore flying low (tree top level) and just about 30 feet in front of us. I was just standing there and staring in total awe and didn't even think to reach for my phone (although I suspect I wouldn't have gotten the camera open in time anyway). Anyway, that just completely and totally made my day. We stopped in at WM and then at Aldi (and of course I forgot the main thing I wanted at Aldi...GAH!!) But I'm not going to be overly aggravated, because I saw an amazing bald eagle!! Ha! Oh, also I left a few painted rocks out here and there along the river walk, and another one at WM.
RobinMD - so glad you'll still have plenty of weekend left after you get off today. Seeing all of those various EMS vehicles out and about today made me wonder if you were working.
Andi - I've never heard of that kind of perm. Maybe something like a body wave? The ammonia free aspect certainly sounds much more healthy for your hair! Did you find a decent price avocados? I hope so! I got mine for .67 cents each, so was quite happy with that price. They hard as concrete, but eventually we'll be able to enjoy them. Lol
Janet - Oh goodness! So glad to hear that you're getting the brake issue taken care of and that you'll be safely navigating the roads. Also that they're taking care of your A/C...at least temporarily. That's a whole lot better than having no A/C, right? Lol

Popping in to say hi to all, can't remember the last time I posted. DH has been sick all week, he has either shingles in his throat, or coxsackie, whatever it is, he's miserable. He finally ate a meal last night, and could only eat fish, my suggestion, he doesn't like it, but agreed it was the best thing, and mashed potatoes. Tonight we are having scallops and polenta. Nothing that is not soft. Hopefully the polenta will be soft enough.
Andi, a few pounds shouldn't make a difference, there are great sales at Macy's, so treat yourself to a few new things. We do not have an Aldi's near here. Lidl, which is supposedly something like it, bought a small local chain, and is starting to open next year. Not that we don't have enough places to get that kind of stuff. Sometimes jicama is hard to find, but if I want it I can always go to Fairway. Hope you get good earrings.
Lora, I guess I missed your DH's tooth problem. I agree with you about not getting his heart rate up that high when he has that. It must be beautiful where you are now. Definitely not only put in an herb garden, you can probably tend a nice vegetable garden too. Unless you are just not the gardening type, I know I am not.
Susie, sorry you had that migraine. Hope you have an great weekend. I did very well at mah jongg on Thursday. I seem to be lucky with the new card.
Janet, same as you, I just have a BBQ tomorrow. My future DDIL's parents invited us. My DH is not going to go, if he decides to at this point, he would only make me miserable wanting to leave. Brakes are definitely something you need to take care of. I have to remind DS to get his AC checked out this week.
RobinMD, hope you don't have too busy, or crazy, a weekend with the holiday. So I gather you are an EMT.
Nothing much else going on here. We are going to Vancouver, then taking a cruise to Alaska in the middle of June. Our 45th anniversary is June 23rd, which is the day we come back. It took me half a day yesterday, but I ended up getting 3 nights at the Westin in Vancouver using points. I also have a cousin in Toronto who I asked for tips on Vancouver, and she told me that her DB is living in Vancouver now. I am going to say it has probably been 50 years or more since I saw him. He lived up the block from my grandparents in Winnipeg. It might be interesting to have breakfast with him, but that's about it. If he doesn't want to, that would be even better.

They did not have the car ready until about 5 and I walked up there because they told me it was almost done and I still had to wait. Since this manager retired there have been some issues with being contacted. I heard another guy who was with his wife waiting saying the same thing. They dont call you to tell you the status of the car. Last time it dawned on me that they hadnt called me at all and it was late in the afternoon. First they told me it would be ready but then it wasnt ready. If it werent for the fact that I can pay it out over a longer period of time I really should consider finding another place. I dont know if it is just this particular location so maybe next time I should consider going to another location. Anyway, the air conditioning worked but when I made a turn you could hear what sounded like a rainstick something like small rocks going back and forth. It was water in there. After I picked up the car I went to the gym as I sat around a lot waiting. I was hoping it was going to be done by 12 or 1 but that didnt happen. Oh well! Lora, that was really cool seeing an eagle I am sure and so close.
