Good Morning Chicks, thanks for the start Karen and Happy Memorial Day!
We got back yesterday evening and the drive wasn't too bad at all thank goodness. I have quite a bit of catching up to do with all of your posts but wanted to at least check in. We had wonderful weather which I am tremendously grateful for; Sat. when the hoards came in for the holiday really changed the whole environment as you might imagine. The good news is that it was really nice to listen to the ocean and get some sun (a bit too much last Mon.), I'm still peeling. The interesting thing I learned is that as much as I love my doggies, they are not restful on vacation. Since Gary walks and feeds them during the week normally, I got to walk and feed them on vacation. Wally took a few days to acclimate so that meant a number of middle of the night walks for him and me. As great as it was to have the change of scenery, I almost feel like I need a vacation from my vacation but regardless I am most grateful to have been able to get away. It only took me 3 days to turn my phone off finally as work was intruding way too much. The ankle ulcer has gotten worse unfortunately so seeing the vascular doctor this coming Friday is a must. I hope you all are doing well and had a nice holiday weekend. I need to go back and read up on what you've all been up to. We did have some great dinners which was terrific with no lines and amazing food. The house we stayed in that we've stayed a few times previously is now up for sale. It's a fantastic location but probably needs somewhere close to 75K in work on it.
Need to finish unpacking and get myself organized to return to the gulag tomorrow. Very volatile work environment right now with so many things up in the air and chronic changes. I am wary to see what new insanity I am returning to deal with now. Going to go back and read up on all of you. I thought of you often and hoped all was going well. Ciao for now, BBL.

Well, quite a week for you gals. Kathy - bears and gators OH MY! How is the heat? It was terribly hot when it got to the upper 80s in Kitty Hawk. The dogs couldn't handle the heat on the sand or the deck. I worry about insurance for Gary and I once we are able to retire. I don't see that happening anytime soon unfortunately and that scares me as well. How's the decluttering project doing? I only ask as I need to do the same some century in my house. Linda - you've had some crazy weather again but thank goodness none of us live in Oklahoma! Those storms and the flooding out in that area are just horrendous! You've been a busy lady as usual with all that gardening and work around the house. I hope the doggies find someone to foster them, that's not easy to do. Yikes on both you and Micki with the allergy itchies! I did fairly well down the shore with my allergies but they became much worse as we came further north. Chele - how are you feeling after doing all that dragging of the patio furniture? Happy that things seem to be going well for Iggy with the new job and is it tomorrow he goes out of town? OH MY on that pie you mentioned! The beginning of summertime in the city; should be interesting with all the crazies on the loose and the mayor thinking he can run for President! You did well at the farmer's with your haul of fruits and veggies. Becky - that is some crazy stuff with your shots and that wacko doctor's office! I surely do hope you're able to get things straightened out and also get some relief. Living with chronic pain is immensely tiring and difficult. I'm glad that Scooter seems to be doing better with her ears and tummy. I have used the Purina probiotic for Wally and it did well for him. Both dogs get probiotic every day but I use a different brand for the daily doses. I hope the knee is not hurting you too badly. I would agree with the ladies that any movement you do that causes pain you need to avoid. I learned that from my physical therapist as well. Zoe and Wally both are affected by the heat as well as their appetites so not too surprising with Scooter. Karen - oh those feets and the disintegrating shoes/insoles. You definitely need to pamper those poor feets still as I would imagine they are still healing. Those Osteo days will happen as you know and if the massage helps that's great. I need to find an ortho and get a second opinion on the right knee. I may stop the PT after this coming week until I have found and seen one. The darn left leg with the ulcer is incredibly painful sometimes and I am fairly certain it has become a bit infected. If it's not one thing it's 3 others.(sigh). Glad that Dale was able to enjoy his outing and hope that Arya allowed you to sleep in. I was up every day at 5:30am or earlier with the pups and seldom able to go back to bed. I did catch a couple short naps in the afternoon while reading out on the deck. Beautiful avatar! I hope you all have a safe and good Monday~ Ciao for now dear ladies~~

Liz, welcome back and Happy Memorial Day! I love your avatar. Glad you had an uneventful drive back. We've experienced that same thing with the hoards coming in for the weekend when we've been in the mountains. It does change everything and it's not as relaxing when things are crowded. I always tried to schedule a recovery day or two after vacation, so I'm glad you're getting a day off before reentering the fray. I know what you mean about needing a vacation from your vacation, but I'm glad you got some relaxing in. I've been staying inside for the most part since the heat outside is just oppressive and uncomfortable. Our humidity has been creeping up, so I'm hoping this weather pattern breaks soon and we get some rain. I'm so glad you had good weather for your trip and got to enjoy the beach a bit. So sorry to hear that the leg and knee problems are still bothering you and hope you can get some relief for them soon. One thing I always noticed when I came back to work after a vacation was how little how changed and it was almost like I hadn't been gone at all. Hope that's the case for you and that there aren't any drastic new developments. LOL on decluttering sometime this century. My decluttering is progressing slower than I wanted, but I'm gradually making some progress. Cleaning out years of accumulated paper stuff is a project in itself. Insurance is a huge worry, but I also felt it was worth the risk to be able to have some extra retirement years. Enjoy your day off! Karen, I'm planning on switching to the ACA during open enrollment this year and will have about 50 months until Medicare at that point. The ACA exchanges in Florida have done really well and there are a lot of choices, so I'm hoping the Republican lawsuit doesn't manage to get the whole thing overturned. There is a gotcha to be aware of if COBRA runs out in the middle of a month. You can switch to the ACA when COBRA runs out, but the ACA plan won't kick in until the first of the next month which will give you a gap in insurance. The exception to that is open enrollment where you can switch plans and start on Jan. 1. Also, once you elect COBRA, you can't switch outside of open enrollment. I have neighbors across the pond that just love to blast one of the local radio stations when they're out at the pool. I can hear it even with the windows shut and the AC on, so feel sorry for their neighbors that are right next door. LOL on Dale getting even with the weed eater. Linda and Becky, I hope I can figure out the Medicare options over the next few years. It sounds horribly complicated! Chele, glad to hear that Dayton stayed peaceful, but it's awful that they had to spend so much money on an event they didn't want.
Hope everyone has a nice, relaxing day!

Liz, it's great to have you back. You were missed. I'm prouding of you for shutting of the phone after 3 days but wish it had happened sooner. I have experienced what Kathy mentioned about nothing really changing much during my vacations. I hope it will be the same for you. Our poor pups are so used to their routines that they don't adapt well to schedule and locale changes. I trust Wally had no "accidents" while you were gone. Sorry the ankle has worsened and I hope waiting til Friday to see the vascular doc will be soon enough if your suspicions are correct and there is some infection. I'm glad you had most of the week with lower crowds. The traffic is terrific with all the folks coming for the mountains and Dale said it was a zoo even early this morning when he left for his race. I wish you could get into a less stressful environment. St. Crazy sounds toxic. I heard Hiz Honor was throwing his hat in the ring for president. Why not? Everyone else is. The feet aren't doing too badly. Pinky toes still don't bend all the way but they're getting there. I will give the problem shoes from last week one more shot and if they ooze tomorrow, they're history. I'm looking forward to being able to get back into the Five Fingers but until all the toes bend normally, that's not an option. Are you like me and once you get up you can't go back to bed? I guess for you sleeping until 5:30 is still better than usual.
Good luck with your phone campaign starting tomorrow, Becky. Does Humana have an online doc finder like United Healthcare does that allows you to figure out your options for an ortho? I agree with Linda about the benefits of PT, despite what that idiot doctor told you. Probably too lazy to write the script for a designated number of PT sessions. What did you and Kenneth do for the holiday?
Kathy, I'm happy you have a nice coupon from Publix. I would love to get one of those, but I still appreciate the $1 off my order coupons I have been getting. Thanks for the open enrollment info on COBRA and ACA. I hope they will leave their hands off ACA until they have a plan that's better than or equal to. My guess is if what the bank has to offer is reasonable, we'll go with that and probably won't make any changes because they will probably be able to deduct it from our account, so we don't have to deal with it. That's outrageous that the folks across the pond play their music so loudly. I guess if there are any noise ordinances, they aren't enforced. I found a new brand of veggie burgers at Publix on Thursday. It's called Don Lee Farms Chipotle Black Bean Burgers. I can't read the fine print without my glasses, so I didn't realize until I got them home that they have egg whites in them, so not vegan. That ingredient is quite a bit low on the ingredients list, so it's not a huge deal. I plan to have one for dinner so I hope they're good. They are from CA, so they should be available nationwide. I'll let you know how the are.
I have the UHC PPO as well, Linda, and there are some nice perks, but it's not as good as the BCBS I used to have through NC. They switched me off BCBS when I went on Medicare and enrolled me in the PPO. I found out too late that they should have given me a choice to be left on the BCBS but they didn't so I'm still a bit miffed about that. It would have given me more choices for doctors, which I don't have with UHC. Do you keep getting them to try to enroll you in the House Calls program? If I wasn't able to get out and about, it might be an option. But why do I need them to send a nurse to my house if I am very capable of seeing healthcare providers on my own? I think it's a waste of resources for some of us and I don't appreciate having strangers at the house anyway. Nice photo. Besides being a national symbol, eagles are incredible. We have several around here because there is a rehab release area on the lake and often they just hang around the lake after they are released.
Chele, what was on your agenda for today besides making sure Iggy is ready to leave tomorrow? It's apparently very humid in Houston right now. We are watching the Astros game and the broadcast people from Chicago just remarked that, even though they are indoors and it's air conditioned, the humidity is seeping in bigtime. Remind him to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate while he's there.
Dale did his race this morning and placed 3rd in his age group but he thinks it was actually 2nd because they lost his swim time. While he was gone, I was a busy bee. Three loads of laundry, cooked eggs for Arya, finished the soy yogurt I started yesterday, watered the raised beds, put together baked beans for dinner, got the reycling together to drop off tomorrow, and a few other things I can't remember. Usual Tuesday planned for me--AF and errands.
Hope all of you are enjoying your holiday.

Thanks for the start Karen.
Liz I love your avatar.I'm glad the drive home yesterday wasn't too bad.I wouldn't think a vacation would be restful with dogs.I'm sorry about the ankle ulcer but am happy you turned your phone off.You need some rest away from that volatile place.I hope I can get things straightened out too.I'm starting with Humana first tomorrow to see if they can give me a ballpark figure on how much my part will be.If it costs too much I will cancel my appointment and ask where I can pick up my x-ray.What brand probiotic do you use for the pups daily doses. Both knees are hurting worse today however if I didn't do anything that made them hurt I wouldn't do anything.
Kathy Medicare especially if you aren't 65 yet is confusing.I'm not eligible for a supplement because I won't be 65 until August.I was able to get Medicare after being on SSD for 2 yrs.I will be eligible for state insurance next yr so I will skip the whole Medicare supplement thing even though I still have to pay for Medicare.
Karen and Linda I hope you are having a good day.
We went to a visitation and funeral in Bastrop for an old friend(not close friend)but have known him since I met Kenneth. The service was nice and by time the funeral started it was standing room only.He was a longtime rancher and had lots of friends. My knees were not happy with sitting for 2 hrs however.

Karen, that is pretty.
Yes, UHC calls and sends mail about the nurse. I also got surveys supposedly them but were questions so they could aim ads at us,and I did not return it. Kind of leery of having stranger come to home and take down whole history and info for an insurance company. I know they are supposed to see things followed up to keep from running up bills, but....
Liz, so happy you actually had a vacation!
Wish we had Publix here
Rhubarb must be a thing today.Someone on another thread.made a cake..I bought some this morning at Safeway and soon a little half-sized pie will go into the oven.
Micki got another long walk. while we still can. ..which for me is almost a mile. He gets hot in sun with black fur even when it isn't hot. sun us strong here. Thursday we finally hit upper nineties and week end will be 100s. It is here.
Load of laundry, a bit of pruning before the city picks up the pile tomorrow, and destroyed the inside of a pile of old computer disks DH still had! Snap off the slider easily and snip the media, not that anyone has a disk reader or the program from 1995! But a lot were grades for kids.
I still have a small pile of stuff in the “library” to organize and stash from his closet cleaning.
Sitting down to finish library book. Exciting, aren't we!
