Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Looks like a dreary morning. Only 48 right now, hopefully it gets up to the 60's later. 1.5" of rain yesterday and last night, with low lying areas flooded.
Gareth, isn't this weather just getting old? Mosquitos will be having a field day with us once it heats up. (if it does heat up!) I kept trying to post the pictures the way DebDoesWW suggests, but if you go according to her directions, (one was to just copy and paste, which I spent way too much time trying to do, but would not work!), the only way to do it, was to go thru a photo app, such as photobucket. It looks like they all charge $4.99, so I don't think it matters which one you choose. Very annoying. We had the same as you, Saturday and Sunday the weather was just amazing! Here in Wi us older people are used to Memorial weekend traditionally being rainy and chilly, so the 80's we had was a bonus. We too had record highs last year at this time.
Robin, sounds like you had some great weather too for the holiday weekend. I see you ended up with 2 pair of shoes. Depending on the clothes I find, later this week, I might need some new shoes. I can not believe how much my feet have grown over these last years! I was, when I reached adulthood a size 8.5, now I am up to 9.5! I have always hated that my feet are so big, was always jealous of my friends who had little feet. Thanks to you, I can't wait to go to TJMaxx!
Pinky, thanks....about the balcony, AND for the rain (NOT!!! lol!) This rainy weather just has to stop!!! And yes, the hummingbirds are just having a field day! I do have that Bark Butter out in 2 different little feeder cups, but so far no little birds coming to those. Need to be patient. How was the Memorial day program? Hope the rain held off for it.
Carol, congrats on the new dishwasher!! I know what you mean about not being used to washing dishes! We never had a dishwasher, so we did get used to it once we moved here, and when it got broken, we had to go with out it for a few weeks. I was surprised how used to using it I had gotten already! Thank you...and yes, the lawn guys came on Sunday morning to cut. We were very surprised they came on the holiday weekend.
We went to our friends house yesterday, with me driving, since DH is still not feeling the best. I just about begged him to cancel, and reschedule our get together, but he insisted he was ok to go. Well, we were there maybe 2 hours at the most, and had to leave, as he could not handle it. Poor guy....By the time we came home it was really raining hard, and being on the highway was not something I was having fun doing. Why oh why can't men listen to women??!!
Welcome back to Anngie and Marsha!!! Anngie, I hope your weather is better than ours!!
Have a nice day everyone.

Good Morning! The Memorial Day program was very nice yesterday as it always is. DBIL actually was the speaker yesterday and he did a great job. This is DH's sisters husband. He is a retired air force pilot, one who actually flew and then started teaching air force students to fly.He ended his military career with teaching the instructors how to teach flying to the students so is very knowledgeable of war planes. Vietnam was before his time but a lot of his talk was on POWs and very interesting. We started taking our kids to the memorial day service when they were young and I am a proud mama to say that they continue to go to the program each year and bring their children as well. I did not have any close family members in the military due to ages/timing of the wars. However, my DFIL was in the Korean War and although he never talked about it and did not do a lot with the legion in his years after he was a member. This made DH and I interested in paying tribute to our fallen soldiers and those that did come back and wanting our kids to know more.
Karen---bummer on your DH not feeling well yesterday so you could enjoy your visit with friends. He maybe just felt like getting out and about and I sometimes think when one doesn't feel well getting out does help. Obviously this was not the case with your DH and he truly is not feeling well yet. Hope he is doing better soon. Are you still going to therapy or able to do your exercises all at home now?
I have a mixture of things to do today so best get started. I have office work to do over in the shop with seed and insurance, farmbooks to do in the house office and hoping it will be dry enough to mow for a couple of hours later this afternoon. Supposed to be cloudy all day and we received almost another inch of rain which stopped about noon yesterday. Guessing it will be still wet and mushy but it is at the point you have to mow whenever it is not raining no matter if there are good conditions or not. Didn't get that rhubarb dessert made yesterday so want to do that sometime as well. I went to the two cemeteries to pick up our flowers mid-afternoon and our friends had called to see if we wanted to go with them to a casino and out to eat so away we went. They guys play some blackjack and we gals find a comfy spot to sit away from all of the noise and chat.

Hello All, I am back. I skimmed through the weekend posts but I have nothing intelligent to add to any of the comments.
Karen - how is dh today? Robin - how is your dh today, too?
We had a great time on our getaway, once I finally got there. My bff and I had flights scheduled to land at the same time so the plan was to meet at the airport but my flight was delayed over and over again. Eventually it was pushed back so that it was only 10 minutes before the next (and last) flight so I switched flights because it seemed to me there was a mechanical problem they were having trouble fixing and I didn't want to end up not getting out. In the end both flights left at the same time but I was 4 hours late so my friend had left the airport and was at her dinner. I took a lyft to the hotel and got there about 10 minutes before she got back from her dinner. Anyway, after that it was fun, we saw friends from high school and did a little shopping, we went to the cemetery as nobody as visited my grandparents and uncle's graves in decades (got soaked in the pouring rain looking for my grandmother's grave!). My college friend picked me up Sunday and I stayed with he and his wife and he took me to the airport Monday morning. Really fun. it is good to get away without any family once in a while. I ate too much and things I shouldn't have but it hasn't shown up on the scale yet.

I checked the weather map when I got up and though it was showing rain around us it looked far enough away that I was ok to go out for a walk. The hourly forecast wasn't showing rain either so I got ready to head out but decided to check the map one more time since it was getting darker. In that short time it showed rain and looking out sure enough it was raining so I headed downstairs to my track. Just can't go by the forecast anymore it seems. Yesterday was forecast to rain most of the day. It ended up only raining early morning and the rest of the day was nice. SO windy though. I'd already walked indoors twice but walked again with DH in the afternoon. Got a lot of steps in yesterday. Not fun when we were walking into the wind which always seemed too when we were going uphill. So many little branches lying around tat the wind had blown off. One house had their canopy blown off that covered their back deck.
Even a long weekend goes by too fast so it's back to work later. Getting a haircut before work. I'm really enjoying The Lies She Told trying to figure it out. I love a good suspense story and this one so far sure is.
Karen, I looked at Photo bucket and decided $4.99 a month was too much to occasionally post a picture. I'm sure with all DH has been through it's going to take awhile to get his strength back. Good for him though getting out even if it was such a short time.
Marsha, that's the trouble with flying is the delays but in the end it sounded like it all worked out ok and you had a good getaway.
Robin, DSW must not be nationwide at least around here since I've never heard of it. I love sketchers. I have several pairs.
Pinky, sounds like you had a nice weekend. Mmmm...I love rhubarb desserts. A friend of my sister's used to make the best rhubarb pie I've ever had. I'm salivating just thinking about it!
Anngie and Carol, anxious to hear about your weekend getaways too!

We didn't have a getaway. We just stayed around here and DH did yard work mostly and I did cleaning in the house.
We have a 90% chance of rain tomorrow. I think Oklahoma and Arkansas are expecting more, too. They certainly don't need it.
I know some of you have an air fryer and like it. That is what we are giving our DDIL for her birthday-it was on her wish list. I know some recipes come with it, but is there a cookbook you like that we could get her? I noticed America's Taste Kitchen has a cookbook for it. Also, she is eating gluten and dairy free right now. She had digestive issues and the doctor recommended cutting out both of those. She did and feels so much better.
I don't think I have ever had rhubard pie.
Karen and Robin, hope both of your DH's are feeling better.

Karen, sorry your DH didn't feel well enough to stay long yesterday, but he probably really felt like getting out. He must be getting cabin fever. By the way, I moved up from a size 9 shoe to a size 10 after my pregnancies. I agree that sometimes my feet look big. I was happy that in the Sketchers I bought (which were from TJ Maxx) that I thought they didn't look big. I know I will wear them a lot on the cruise, especially when we leave the boat at the ports, and also probably to walk around Vancouver. Not all TJ Maxx's have the same selection, in some places Marshall's is better. They are owned by the same company.
Gareth, seems like there is rain again all over. We are going to have some rain off and on all week. Right now I don't mind it because we haven't fixed the sprinkler system at DM's house, and I don't want the grass to get brown. Right now I have to get the backflow tested, so my people will come to do that. It does seem like there are a lot of DSW's around, but seeing as I am not looking for high fashion shoes, I was lucky to find what I want. I wanted leather flats, not man made, and didn't want to spend a fortune on them. The black ones are Naturalizer, and they don't even make many in real leather, but they are so comfortable.
Carol, I am very happy with the Sketchers, they were nice and roomy, and very light weight. They have laces that are elastic, and don't untie, so they are really slip-ons.
Pinky, I think that people my age, and my DH's, were the younger ones who were in Vietnam. My DH had a student deferment, then a high draft number. The war ended the year we got married. So, I guess your DBIL is younger. Nice of you to all take part in the Memorial Day events.
Marsha, so glad everything worked out. I guess all in all, even though you had to pay for your own Lyft, the fact that you got to the hotel as your BFF was getting back was really good. I agree, nice to get away from the family sometimes! Just to be able to only think about yourself for once, and what you actually want to do.
I finished reading There, There. Not something I could recommend, but will probably be good for our book club discussion. I'm interested to hear what everyone else has to say about it. I liked parts of it, but felt it left me hanging too much, but maybe that's because I like books that tie together at the end.

Marsha---welcome home. Glad you had a nice time with your BFF even if it got off to a bad start.
Gareth---is The Lies She Told written by Cate Holahan? We love everything rhubarb here but our very favorite is rhubarb torte a dessert my mom always made. It has a flour crust, with cooked rhubarb in the middle and then a meringue topping. Of course the cooked rhubarb has cream and sugar added so high on points but who is counting during rhubarb season---LOL! We also love rhubarb muffins and a cooked rhubarb sauce for ice cream.
Carol---I am interested in an air fryer as well and need to research them. Did your DDIL request a certain brand? Just would like to know which ones are good ones.
Okay I need to head out and mow some lawn.

Now that I read things more carefully, I see you went to the casino yesterday, Pinky. I am guessing it's an Indian Casino, and there seem to be so many of those around these days. Not surprised there would be one in South Dakota.
Gareth, my libraries don't have that book, although one of them does have it in audio, but there is another by the same title written by Diane Chamberlain, who I really like, so downloaded that.
