Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Yesterday was a beautiful day, and today should be a bit warmer. Looking for storms over night tonight. The weekend will be cooler.
Pinky, I know I have seen the farmer's planting late, but I think this is very late for tilling the crops. We might as well give up now, from the looks of it, this whole year is going to be a bad weather year. I hope all the farmers can at least get some kind of crops planted. Did you get to the T ball game? How did the kids do?
Marsha, yay, that your DH is feeling better. What is his routine at the Y? Oh darn! So sorry your new sneakers got all icky with mud!! Can you clean them? That is how I am when I get a new pair, that I use just for working out, I am cleaning them all the time! I even got 2 compliments on my "good" sneakers, within the last week, lol! Did you see the weather for the weekend? Not the greatest. But next week looks like it will finally warm up for every day.
Robin, how is your DH feeling? Hope he is doing good. Did I tell you that I gave up on CBD oil? After spending a lot of money and going to 3 different places, I finished what I had, and quit it. The other day someone was telling me that HEMP oil is the oil to use for pain. She had a lot of reasons, which of course I can not repeat, as I would get it all wrong, but she did say she knows a couple women, who use it and swear by it; one has MS and it helps tremendously, the other has fibromyalgia and it helps her so much. So I am giving that a try. I see there was no cream for HEMP oil.
Gareth, I had heard there were tornadoes in IA the other night. They showed a map of the US on the national news last night, of all the states that have had the tornado outbreak, and WI stuck out like a sore thumb, as to not having any tornadoes. I felt kind of guilty! Hope your weekend weather is quiet and warm.
Carol, sorry about the rain you all had. There are always idiots that go around barriers for flood waters and then need the rescuers to risk life and limb to save them. They should be billed for services! My goodness, your DDIL is a very special woman, to come out of all that to lead such a good life! Thank you, about the well wishes for my apt.
Anngie, we here in WI are in the same boat (no pun intended!). Lots of rain, off and on, but at least we have not had tornadoes. We are expecting something tonight, in the way of possible severe storms. Why do they always come at night? I love your honesty about your DMIL....I had a hard time all of our married life with mine. But she was mentally unstable. I was very young when I was going steady with DH, and did not know anything about mental disease, and within 2 years she was having a nervous breakdown, with treatment being shock treatment. Learned a little about that from my mother, she felt so bad for DMIL. I could write a book about in law's family so I will stop here. Hope you have a nice weather weekend.
Doctor was happy with my progress, but he wants my leg, when I stand to be a lot better, being that it has to be straighter. He had his nurse send me home with a contraption to use, which I tried, and immediately refused to use. Of course, DH being DH, who worships doctors and is of the mind set that you DO NOT go against doctor orders, got mad at me. What it is is, something like a 2x4, at one end is tapered to an end. On the other end, it is built up high. You lay your leg on this board, with your foot (bad leg) hanging off the high end, strapping down the knee to the board. With my short legs, the board is long, with the tapered end under my butt. I could not stay on the board and it was hurting my butt when I could actually stay on it. I was so upset trying to do it, I was crying, and of course DH was getting mad that I wasn't giving it a chance. I finally told him that he and the doctor could stick that thing where the sun doesn't shine...I refuse to use it. I will talk to the therapist today to see what stretching exercise I can do to replace that goofy thing. I have to go back in 4 weeks, so I am confident I can make some progress by then.
My cancer check went as expected. Good check up, nothing new there. He did have me get 2 chest xrays, just in case.
Busy day today, I have therapy then we have to pick one of our grand daughters up, as she has early release, then feed her lunch then get to DH doctor apt, then bring DGD home.
Have a nice day everyone.

Karen - yay that they are not thinking of another surgery! Do they have that torture device in a smaller size? Maybe one that fits you would not be so uncomfortable. Also yay on a clean report from the oncologist.
I took Mitzi for a walk this morning - short version - dh decided to come along but he was dilly dallying so I left without him. He caught up when we turned around but I think my pace was a bit fast for him. I finished The Dream Daughter. It was good not great. For a while there I was just wishing it would end. I see how the author tried to put unexpected twists in but it dragged. End was not a surprise.
DS is having a birthday party for the cats (!) on Sunday so we will go there. So tomorrow I have to go buy presents for the cats. What does one buy a cat for a present? I think maybe a couple of toys and a nice bag of treats. I think I'll go to Marshall's, they sometimes have some different treats. I also need to bake bread and banana bread to take as a housewarming gift and maybe find a nice salt thing at Marshall's (bread so they should not know hunger, salt so their lives have flavor, sweet so their lives should know happiness).

Beautiful, sunny morning for my walk. I'll walk again with DH when he gets home from work. 80's today. Of course rain is in the forecast again for tomorrow. News said there were 11 tornadoes that touched down in Ia on Wed. and 7 Tues. Scary all the tornadoes anymore. Crazy weather all over. Laundry is done. Ran the little sweeper downstairs. Dishwasher is running now. Always plenty needing done on my day off. Listening to The Girl With A Clock For A Heart while I do. Strange title for a book but I'm enjoying it like all of the Peter Swanson books I've listened to.
Karen, glad to hear nothing was said about surgery. Hope the therapist can help you with that contraption. Good news too from your oncologist!
Marsha, always plenty of things for cats at the pet stores.
Carol, to answer your question my sister lives along the banks of the Mississippi river in Harpers Ferry, Ia.
Anngie, my sister can get to her place by boat to check on it. It'll be a muddy mess when the water recedes. The lower level is garage and patio area so her living area is high enough on the upper level that doesn't get any water.

Karen, I read your post this morning but didn't post myself, and I thought the same thing, they should get you a shorter device! Maybe your therapist will know if that can be done. I am sure it won't be comfortable, but will be better than what you have. Glad your Dr was happy enough with your progress that you don't need another surgery. Good on your cancer check was as expected too.
Nice day here. Waiting for my older DS to come out and take my car. He is using it for the weekend because they have a wedding in New Jersey. He is a groomsman so is going out for the rehearsal dinner tonight. They are staying over and then have the wedding tomorrow night. Sunday both DS's are going to a concert that they have been going to with a group for years, since either high school or first year of college. They do a big tailgate. They don't drink nearly as much beer as they used to, and there is still beer lying around my house from last year, so hopefully it will disappear. I have a bridal shower on Sunday afternoon, but DH does not mind if I take the car.
This morning I went to return a few of the tops I ordered from Kohl's. I was disappointed in them. One had a print that looked like a nightgown, one was too low cut, the other I just didn't like. If I have a chance, I might go to Dress Barn this weekend to see if they have anything. Also could stop at another TJ Maxx that is near where my friend lives. Although I probably am over-planning for my trip, I feel like I need more.

Karen, that board sounds really uncomfortable. Maybe the therapist can help you with it.
Thank you all. Yes, we are really proud of our DDIL. We feel blessed to have her in our family.
I finished Nine Perfect Strangers. Robin, I realize what part you were talking about and I thought it was just weird and not very believable. I didn't like Truly Madly Guilty very much either. I think Big Little Lies is my favorite.
I was watching the national news last night and of course, they had a big story on the floods. I can't imagine all the mud on and in everything. I wonder if the people had flood insurance. I know it is very expensive. Gareth, glad your sister is okay.
No big plans for the weekend. There are a couple of estate sales we'll probably go to.
I really appreciate Kohl's return policy. Also, I have never had any trouble with returning anything to Target.

Carol, I agree that the return policy from most of the big stores is great. I had the paperwork that was enclosed with the packages, they scanned that, then each tag, and just credited to the card I used.
I know I read both Big, Little Lies and Truly Madly Guilty. I just read the synopsis of both and can't remember them. I read the one where the families all lived in a cul de sac, and they had a BBQ, someone ended up getting killed. I think that was Big, Little Lies. Not noteworthy enough that I could remember, but I guess I liked them while I was reading. Nine Perfect Strangers is more memorable.

Kohl's return policy is great but I had trouble with Target. Years ago I bought a set of sheets as an extra set so I didn't use them for months and when I finally took them out of the package they were torn so I tried to return them, they were the Target brand, and they wouldn't take them back. I didn't still have the receipt so I guess it was my fault, and that was before they were scanning things, but it was clearly their brand and they were clearly unused so I was angry!
