We are a group of like-minded people that gather to discuss a host of topics from weight loss, to current events. Our thread celebrates liberal diversity, welcomes new friends, and respects all opinions. We count everything from calories to points but, we never count our chickens before they've hatched!
Wake up.
Brush teeth.
Walk dog (or stare at cat).
Make coffee.
Call Congress.
May the Force (of resistance) be with you.
Remember ― A call a day keeps the Trump away.

Woke up this morning and things did not miraculously improve in the country overnight. Hoping that our rain dance was successful, but not likely although it did rain here last night. Anne, did you find the owner of the left over feathers? Pam, were they yours?
Finished our taxes, and as expected we owe quite a lot. Not a surprise, but still never what you want to see. I don't mind paying my fair share of taxes. The fact that we owe taxes at the end of the year is validation of the fact that we are among the fortunate ones who don't go to bed hungry, sleep in a shelter or under a bridge, don't have to worry every time the bills come in, etc. In fact I am happy to pay my share, but I like to think they will be used for feeding the hungry, providing healthcare for seniors and others in need, taking care of our military personnel and their families, rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure, etc. I have to admit that it really p**ses me off to think about them being used to break apart families, build a useless wall, Tweety's Mar-a-Lago weekends and his sons to spend time in Dubai working for their business interests, Steve Bannon's salary, Betsy DeVos to ruin our school systems, and give KAC opportunities to advertise Ivanka's product line as well as spread more alternative facts.

"Walk dog (or stare at cat)."
LOL! This reminds me of PSA on TV about visiting an animal shelter. The guy tells us if we need to get some exercise why not take a shelter dog for a walk? Then he says, "Don't like dogs? Try to walk a cat...then get ready to run."

Not much to be happy about lately, but I am getting a chuckle out of all the angry people crowding town hall meetings that were supposedly arranged "for show." I am happy to see a nationwide grassroots level uprising. If only it happened before the elections.
I do have a thought, however, while watching clips of them - I would like to know how many of those in attendance, who are against Trump and his policies, actually voted? 231 million Americans were eligible to vote in 2016 - 90 million of those did not vote. I have no patience with anyone who did not vote - nor do I have any sympathy for those who voted for the Cheeto and now realize the stark realities.
Sigh.

One of my friends, well ex friend it seems, never votes, has no patience for anything political, but did not like Trump. Her kids were Obama haters & of course Trump fans, etc. My friend, well ex, posted on FB after Trump won, that she thought everyone in this country should quit calling each other names, work together to bring the country together ( something her kids did not do) & that she was standing with Trump, to do that, because her kids were happy Trump won..I repeat, she NEVER votes!...So, I texted her & called her on the hypocrisy of it all. ....She never responded, she unfriended me, my son & wife on FB & so, the last time I spoke to her in person was right before the election in October when she sat at my table, drank coffee & said she could not stand Trump. For the life of me I just can't understand why people who never vote feel they have the right to tell me & others to stand with Trump, etc..so, whatever, I am down one friend, & surprisingly I feel ok with speaking my mind to her. It was her choice to end the friendship. I have other family members & friends who are in the Trump/Conservative camp, but they vote & know the issues at hand, so, I give them their space as long as they give me mine on political choices.

Sorry about the loss of a friend, Linda, but it sounds like she wasn't a real friend anyway if she doesn't have room to respect your opinions. I agree, people who refuse to learn about the issues and vote don't have a right to complain. They deserve what they're stuck with, if only we weren't stuck with it too.

Andy Borowitz....... Maybe I'm old-fashioned but I'm nostalgic for a President who killed bin Laden instead of the First Amendment.

This made me physically ill today. (Christian Nation?) "ICE Agents Take Undocumented Mom With Brain Tumor From Hospital To Detention Center" Really? www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/undocumented-woman-with-brain-tumor-removed-from-hospital-tied-up_us_58aefbd5e4b057efdce9ac25?ky99zmra4pt47psyvi&Just a little note from my friend Matt: Matthew 25:40-45New International Version (NIV) 40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ 41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’ 44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’ 45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’

Anne, that just breaks my heart and makes me furiously angry. How do we dare to have the hypocrisy to call ourselves a Christian nation when we allow this kind of thing to happen? It also makes me deeply ashamed.
