I woke up thinking it was 8:45 and was up and at 'em and eating before I realized it was really two hours earlier than I thought. Too late to go back to bed so will make the most of it instead. Hubby will be going to Beirut today to meet with students, run some errands then get home, hopefully, before dark. I will be reading and reviewing and might do some laundry and tidying throughout the day.
BEVERLY: I am not sure that this generation is wimps. I think that if/when one feels a threat to one's home/family the hero comes out in most of us...or it would. I wish that those in power would stop instigating wars but also think sometimes that violence is part and parcel of humankind...kind on the end of human would then be an oxymoron. What kind of storms are you expecting. My daughter keeps posting photos of Missouri's flooded cities and lands along the river...it is sad
LYNN: What kind of meetings are you still involved in now that you are retired? I hope they are fun! Sorry it is so hot!!!
CHERRY: I have brought numerous squash, bean and other seeds to my husband over the years. He tends to do best with what he already knows from the past when planting. Also, some of the veggies seem to attract birds, turtles, moles and other wild creatures more and they don't do as well here.
PAM: You are still my inspiration! Know you had fun with your family at lunch!!!

Good morning. The problem I have is with rabbits, so I put a chicken wire fence around my garden. It doesn't keep the gophers out, but they don't seem to eat the veggies - they just dig holes in the garden. For some reason the deer don't seem to bother my garden. They don't come around much in the summer, just late fall and winter. Now that I've written this, I'll probably have a problem with them all summer!
Today my garden will be finished. I will plant two hills of summer squash and set out 4 tomato plants. Then I'll have to get my watering system set up with soaker hoses. I've been just watering with a hand sprinkler. My grandson has promised to come out and help me put up the fence. My son, who usually does this, is on vacation and won't be back for another couple of weeks. And I'll need the fence sooner as things are starting to come up that the rabbits will love to munch on.
Have a nice day, beaches.

Good morning friends,
We are still having a lot of rain today, so far, none of the flooding that they are having just west of us. It is so sad for the farmers there, they haven't been able to even get their crops in the ground this spring. Many of the fields are under water. The flooding will last for a while, as it will take a while for the rivers to get back into their banks even after the rain stops.
Our garden is doing quite well. We picked summer squash yesterday, we have had broccoli already and a couple of cucumbers. We are using the raised beds for the first time this year. It is better for DH with all his health issues. DH & DS#1 planted it. They got the plants too close together. The plants are huge now & seem to be choking each other out a bit. Next year, they will know to put less plants there. The squash plants have grown huge!! The tomatoes should start coming in next month. I can't wait.
Cherry, funny you talk about rabbits in your garden, we have the same problem here. Haven't seen them, so far, in the raised beds, but they are murder on everything else. We have a groundhog that lives under the shed in the back yard. He has been here for years. Of course, he hibernates all winter, then he comes out in the spring. Everybody says they will murder your garden & eat tomatoes straight from the vine, in the years that he has been here, he has never touched the garden! He just grazes on the grass in the back yard. He is really a good neighbor.
Lynn, Pam, Cathy , Hello, have a great Friday!

Hello all...late check in!
I went to my studio and enjoyed the meeting as usual. The weight gain was not as bad as I thought, but I still have work to do. I do like my leader or whatever they call her now.
Cathy, I run the homeowners association for my area and I am on the board of a senior building in my area too...just some of the things that keep me busy during retirement. Next week we have a meeting with the police and we are providing refreshments. I will go to Dunkin Donuts to get boxes of Joe and munchkins and maybe some granola bars somewhere else.
I'm getting dinner ready...making a small turkey breast.
Enjoy, my friends!!
