This is a thread devoted to those in their 50s & 60s and beyond who don't have children or grandchildren but live rich, full lives. Please feel free to join our stroll thru life and come back often for support and to share. **************** National Doughnut š© Day! The news here has been talking about this all week. I donāt typically eat doughnuts but I occasionally indulge in a French cruller at Tim Horton. I havenāt had one in a long time. I must be over the craving for that one thing, at least. TG for small mercies.

Thanks for the start, Chele, and Happy Doughnut Day! We have a local shop, Courthouse Donuts, that is supposed to be fabulous and we talked several times about getting some but never have. Guess you're not the only one over that craving. Enjoy your trip to Kokomo this weekend. Linda, that's a cute turtle Micki has. It wouldn't last 5 minutes with all the chewing my girl does. You need a nothing day every once in a while. Congrats on the negative culture. You may have hit the nail on the head with the freon leak. Have Micki's symptoms subsided as well and maybe he has the same issue? If you're getting by without having to take an antihistamine, things seem to be improving. Good thing you got your new AC before thie heat hit. No surprise on not missing the work stress, Kathy. I do miss the several of the people, however. I'm retired and still have to sit through contentious meetings and even take minutes at them. It really is a shame about the treasurer, not only because of his position, but he put in over 600 volunteer hours last year. I don't see anyone stepping up the way he did. Very discouraging. Odd that your digital coupons didn't work for you. $3 is $3. The only time I haven't had them work properly is when I forgot to put in my phone #. I didn't see much in this week's ad that I needed. I usually get berries there and they were on sale, but I didn't need any this week. You are probably right about the group policy vs. individual policy on Dale's insurance. He did look at ACA but, given the lifting of a lot of the regulations imposed under Obama, it basically amounts to catastrophic coverage with a high deductible. I think I will call the NC Health Plan next week just to ensure that I can't get him a policy there. It would be nice to have something in place for the entire 5 years before he can go on Medicare. Becky, I'm amazed you're already in the upper 90s! How are the knees doing? I can't imagine the sweetness of Redi Whip on sweet potatoes. That was one of the reasons I wasn't fond of the sweet potato casserole with the marshmallows in it. That and it was greasy from all the butter. The t-storm should have helped to knock down any dust that might have come your way from out west. Hey, Liz, it's FRI-DAYYYYY! Good luck getting out of work on time and I hope the work crew will leave you alone this weekend. We haven't had a good morning. Arya was up before 4:30 again and Dale took her out. Whe she came back in, she settled into bed but we could hear her little tummy growling. She had the runs again and had an accident a couple minutes after they came back in, so I had a mess to clean up. She has colitis again from eating grass but keeps wanting to eat grass any time we go out. So I went online and figured out a way of creating a makeshift muzzle for our outside trips. She also got only about 1/3 of her usual breakfast and I gave her a biscuit and a couple of treats (Royal Canin Dental Diet, which are fairly large pieces of kibble) and they laid on the living room floor for at least an hour before she ate them. So I know her tummy still doesn't deel good. I may give her a little yogurt or pumpkin with turkey for dinner but am trying to keep her little system as empty as possible so inflammation can heal. Dale leaves tomorrow, so I hope we can get her through this episode quickly so I don't have my hands full as a single puppy parent for 5 days. I got the president's column this morning so I finished the newsletter and shipped it off. Hoping to take a nap this afternoon. I need one! Good weather for it because it's been raining off and on all morning.

Karen, I am sorry to near Arya is still not feeling well and that you have all that to deal with. I hope you get that nap. I hope NC has a plan that could work for Dale. Hey, congratulations on getting the article so you could finish the newsletter. The main reason I quit the ladiesā club was the politics, so I can understand the treasurerās POV.
Linda, I laughed at Micki wanting someone to pick up his turtle. It reminded me of Teddy. When we played fetch, I did the fetching. I hope the itch is completely gone today.
Kathy, as much as I enjoy watching those rascally squirrels, they irritate me by eating my iris and lily bulbs. Yesterday, they were rolling over my coneflowers, so I chased them away. They have not been back today. We donāt put up bird feeders, but I did see the squirrels on the bird bath last year.
Becky, I hope all goes well with the insurance. It is good to start early. You never know if there will be a hitch.
Liz, TGIF.
Nothing special is going on here today. The sciatica is still bothering me, so I just rode the bike and did some stretches. I will walk the house to keep moving. I am going to limit bending and reaching for now.

Chele, Happy Doughnut Day! I'm not planning on having one any time soon, but I love those chocolate cake ones. French crullers are a favorite of mine too. I guess I'm over that craving too though since I haven't had a doughnut for years. Now if I could just get over some of the other cravings... My DM was not thrilled with the squirrels attacking her hibiscus, but at least they couldn't get up to the flowers that were higher up. The hibiscus branches aren't heavy enough to support them. Hope the sciatica improves soon. Karen, sorry to hear Arya still isn't feeling well and hope she recovers quickly. I don't know what happened with the coupons since I've used them before. I definitely put in the phone number since I remember thinking how much of a pain it is! I'll try again once I add some more. I got some organic blueberries from NC on sale and they're really good. It's probably worth it to call the NC Health Plan just to make sure. I'm surprised that the ACA choices are only high deductible/catastrophic plans, but I think I did read somewhere where TN had a shortage of insurers for the exchanges. The FL exchanges have so many choices it's going to take me quite awhile to go through them. Many of them are the traditional ones where you pay a set fee for a doctor's visit or prescription. My current plan from my employer is a high deductible one, but it's good coverage once the deductible is met. Good luck on finding something and I agree, it would be great to have something in place for 5 years. Other than your retirement coverage, I don't know if anything is guaranteed anymore.
Waving to all. Enjoy your Friday!

Chele, I also understand the treasurer's POV. He was doing his best to try to lead the project and even some people who claim to support it were raising objections that made no sense. I hate when a few people have a need to ruin a good thing. Shame on those pesky squirrels! We had a couple of tulips dug up the first year we were here but nothing since. Rolling in the coneflowers? Hope it felt good the one and only time they could do it. Were they trying to loosen the seed pods? We don't have bird feeders either. They seem to have plenty to eat around here without them.
I am also a chocolate cake donut fan, Kathy. With chocolate icing. When I was growing up we had a local company that had the best donuts. They were the regular cake donut (not chocolate) but had the best chocolate icing. Haven't been able to find one that tastes like that and they went out of business years ago. Even Tim Horton's doesn't come close. TN definitely doesn't have as many options for healthcare coverage. State Farm, who handles our auto and home insurance, doesn't even have any healthcare plans here but have them in most other states. Shortage of coverage translates to shortage in the number of providers apparently. I still have to find a new one or suck it up and go back to the drug pusher and lay down some ground rules for her. I guess I need to call about that next week as well. Medicare guarantees that you'll have something, but their reimbursements are so miniscule that only a handful of providers here want to mess with them. Good luck figuring out the best plan for you. Does your PCP only accept certain ones? If you want to stay with that practice, that may narrow things down a bit for you. Have the squirrels damaged the lower branches on DM's hibiscus, not realizing that they won't support their weight? Have you made tea with the fresh flowers?

Thanks for the start Chele. One thing I don't crave any more is doughnuts. My mom always liked the HEB sour cream doughnuts. They still make them I see.Enjoy your trip this weekend.I hope your sciatica gets better soon.
Karen We got up to 95 today but the weekend will be hot and humid. They just said this is usually July weather. The knees are a little better but still need some work to be anywhere near 100% if they ever get to that. The sweet potato casserole is good but too sweet for me.Nothing is too sweet for Kenneth though.I wouldn't want the Redi Whip on mine.I'm sorry Arya is still getting sick.Does she just get the runs or does she throw up after she eats grass?Scooter would eat the greener grass when it was raining all the time and couldn't keep down any food down until I got the probiotics. Now every other day she just wants it on her food and waits for it.She is so funny and spoiled. She was also always drinking rain water that accumulated on the porch in a container and it was always so green.Kenneth finally got rid of it and she still looks on the porch for it b/c of course dogs would rather drink rain water but mosquitos are so bad especially at night now we don't keep any water around.
Linda I don't blame y'all for needing treats after all that.I hope test results come out good for both of you.
