This thread is for anyone that has been away from healthy eating, had a gain and is recommitting. We accept all forms of healthy eating here, whatever that means to you. We touch base daily for accountability and to encourage one another. This is a judgment free zone.
We all struggle to get the weight off and keep it off. Sometimes this is a challenge, but we never give up and that is the key. Regardless of our situation or where we are in reaching our goal, we count on talking to each other every day and are blessed to have one another as friends.
Our motto is persistence, not perfection.

Good Morning...are you surprised to see me here this early? This is not early for Lora or Andi, but it is early for me - LOL...I awakened and decided to go ahead and get up and fix coffee and get ready for my 7:15 yoga-type class. DH and I have a lecture on The Progressive Era (early 1900s) this morning and then DGS's "graduation" from pre-school this evening at 6:00. DD leaves for CA today after work to celebrate her birthday with her DBF.
Hope everyone has a great day...safe travels RobinS

Good morning, Susie, so happy to see you here so early! Enjoy your class and the graduation.
This will be just a short check-in post since I have to get ready for work. Had my first of 3 sessions last night on Internal Family Systems work. Powerful and emotional as I got to see, and "speak" with the various parts of myself that serve in roles to protect and nurture me, misguided as they often are these days. Part of the healing process is hearing them, feeling compassion for them, and being with them as I stand in my authentic self. Seems like this may be the key to dealing with my teen rebel and my food indulger who seems to think the solution to every discomfort is tons of crappy food. I have another session next week and then the final one 2 weeks later. Hopefully after that I can do the work myself, can't afford to continue these sessions. My meals are planned for the day and lunch is packed.
Regular work day today. It's cold and looks like rain here, only supposed to get into the 60's today. I'll take sneakers with me today and maybe I can walk at lunch time.
Have a great day all.

Good morning Susie and ATF!
Susie - Yes! I was absolutely surprised to see you starting the thread so early this morning. Ha! Sounds like you're getting a good start on the day. Sounds like an interesting lecture today. I wish there was something like that around here, but I haven't found anything close enough to actually take advantage of. Oh well. We did add on HBO through Amazon Prime, so I now have a whole new batch of documentaries at my disposal - better than nothing.
The roof guys got a lot of work done on the removal of old roof and prepping with new felt yesterday. They're probably 2/3 to 3/4 complete with that part. They had to quit yesterday afternoon when some rain moved back in for the afternoon/early evening. But thankfully came to a good stopping point where everything up top was covered and protected so no issue from the rain. Today and tomorrow we have sunshine and a ZERO% chance of the wet stuff, so hopefully they'll get a lot accomplished. It's unseasonable cool here right now, and feels great outside. Right now we're sitting on 60 degrees with a high today of only 78, and up to 82 tomorrow. It's truly delightful. The roofing guys are loving this little cool snap. I was chatting with one of them yesterday morning and he was laughing that his wife told him to make sure to take a hoodie or jacket. He was saying that he wished he'd listened to her. Haha! Of course I reminded him that the wives are always right, but he swore that no way he would go home and tell her he actually got a little chilly. They rolled into the driveway at 630 yesterday morning, so I expect them at any point. DH is WFH today, so I'll have his SUV if I need to do any running around.
My barbacoa turned out pretty good but OMG! It was HOT! The adobo turned out much spicier than I'd anticipated. Probably the difference in the brand and purity of chili powder. What I'd order is pure, no fillers or anti-caking agents that I'm positive exist in the majority of grocery store grade spices. I didn't really take that into consideration. Next time I'll probably cut back a little from the 1/4 cup that I used this time. Other than that, the flavor was great and the house was so fragrant between the chili powder, oregano and cinnamon that went into the sauce. It made a pretty big batch of barbacoa, so we'll have that to eat on for the next couple of days.
Anyway, I hope everybody had a good day and that Thursday treats you kindly. I'm sure I'll be popping back in later.

Andi - we were posting at the same time. I hope you get a chance to walk today. Also that your coaching/counseling (I'm not exactly sure what you consider it to be) is helpful to you finding you inner peace and quieting the turmoil you often feel with food/eating.

Good morning everyone -
Susie I hope you enjoy the graduation this evening. It's so cute the way they have those ceremonies for kids.
Andi I hope you're able to walk despite the cool temps and rain.
Lora I hope they get through a lot of the roof today. With the barbacoa, I also find that spices seem more intense the less moisture there is - so if it's just meat in a crock pot/etc. there isn't as much water let out from veggies or whatever. The good thing about spicy food is I always find myself drinking even more water :-)
Did a click list order yesterdya morning and picked up groceries after work. Was so glad I did it that way. I didn't pick up random junk, most of what I got was veggies, and it was under $20. It wasn't a full grocery trip but I'm trying to eat out of my freezer (fish, chicken) and it was just what I needed to add on. My stomach was out of wack yesterday but a nice big dish of kale for dinner has done the trick (sorry to be TMI).
Trying to walk a little in the evenings - after being at Disney I realized how little I move in comparison. If I can do 22,000 steps at Disney in the heat, I can certainly walk to hit at least 10k per day on my treadmill in AC. I'm feeling really bad about my body - and specifically a number I saw yesterday. As I grapple with that and the combination of feeling somewhat trapped workwise and navigating a search, I know that physical activity is a good way to help everything.
Didn't do much last night other than pick up the groceries - did take care of a couple of chores. I think tonight I'll start on laundry from the trip. I overpacked - anticipating I'd need multiple changes of clothes some days - but it's all going to get washed either way.
Hope everyone has a great Thursday!

Good morning everyone.
I ended up leaving work early yesterday because I was having some discomfort in my ribs. I slept on that side the night before and apparently it wasn't uncomfortable enough to wake me up but it must have irritated it enough that it was pretty uncomfortable yesterday. I went home and took some pain meds. It ended up being a nice afternoon to be home since DH was out of town and DD was at work. It was just me and the pups.
Someone asked about the bone density test with my DM - she did ok with it and they made it back home. She will not know the results until she sees the Dr. on Monday. She also starts PT on Monday. She isn't moving her arm at all so I think she is going to be really stiff and sore after PT on Monday. I have my physical on Monday so I am unable to go with them but the Dr. is close to their home and they have gone once before so it should not be an issue.
RobinMD the parts of keto that I do not follow is I still use a SF syrup in my coffees. It is Torani and it has ingredients in it that are not keto. I will probably eventually phase it out but right now I am continuing to use it. I don't use very much of it. I also drink beer on the weekends and beer is definitely a no no on keto. There are some alcohols that are ok on keto but because of my gastric bypass I absorb alcohol faster and when I drink mixed drinks I get super drunk and have all kinds of tummy issues the next day. I do get drunk on beer faster than I used to but I do not have the tummy issues afterwards. I love craft beer but I mainly stick with Bud Light now - it has less alcohol than craft beers. Also from time to time I am a "if it fits your macros" kind of girl with certain things -like mayonnaise, although I have found a good keto mayo that I like now so that may not be an issue anymore.
Susie enjoy your yoga class. I think I am going to revisit the group exercise schedule at the YMCA. I am still a member even though I haven't been in forever.
Andi glad that you are finding powerful meanings in your sessions. I always feel like if I can learn even 1 thing about myself during things like that then it was worth it.
Lora I hope the roofers continue to move along and hopefully you will not have too many more days of pounding over your head. I hope you are able to get out for a bit today.
Amanda I LOVE clicklist and use it often.
Waving to everyone else. Today is my Friday! Woo hoo!

RobinMD - Just got back to read last evenings post. I've actually been eating a strict and very clean keto regimen for almost 2 years now. As far as fruits go, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries and raspberries are keto compliant. You would just want to keep them as a once in a while treat, as the goal is to be below 20gm of carbs per day. Mark and I have both had wonderful health successes above and beyond weight loss. He was taken off all of his type 2 diabetes meds and his cholesterol meds and his BP meds have been cut in half, and not a single IBS or gout flare since starting. I turned around a pre-diabetes diagnosis and came off BP and cholesterol meds as well. I also rid myself of my knee inflammation and pain, my sciatica, plantar fasciitis and almost weekly migraines. In fact, in the 20 months that I've been keto, I haven't had one single cold, sinus infection, bronchitis, ear infection or any of those ailments that plagued me every spring and every fall. I haven't even had to take any allergy meds for the past two springs. It has honestly turned our health around completely. As to feeling like you're missing out, I don't. Not at all. Once the sugary/carby stuff (even the fruit) was out of my system, I don't crave anything anymore. I do enjoy a serving of blackberries or strawberries maybe once every couple of months, but when I don't have them I don't feel like I'm missing them. Many keto folks will eat them weekly without issue, I just don't desire them very often. It has been a very enlightening experience for us and I don't see us ever going back to the way we ate before. I try not to talk about it too much because it tends to get people stirred up...Lol. But you might be able to read into this post that I'm quite passionate about this lifestyle. I turned 55 in April and truly feel better than I did at 30 - physically, mentally and emotionally.

RobinMD - I forgot to address the fruit question. Everything Lora said is correct regarding Keto. I frequently go to her with Keto questions
Guys, I am so burned out with work. Maybe I am just burned out with life - I am not sure. I just know that I am struggling to stay motivated at work these days.
I am not sure if I mentioned this or not - our realtor knows several builders that actually have lots to build on. She is going to reach out to them and see if any of them have lots that meet what we want (at least 5 wooded acres in an area with high speed internet) and if they do, get us in touch with them to discuss just building a house. This might be the way to go for us. We kind of knew what we want and after looking at several houses we have an even better idea of what we are looking for.
I suppose I should get back to work - even though all I can think about is my beach trip

Lora I feel you 100% on the burnout issue. It's so tough. I'm in the mindset this week of forcing myself to do stuff - and it's working because I have many meetings scheduled so its short bursts of work.
