Good Morning Chicks, Needed to go back and read up on the previous posts to catch up a bit. It's been another crazy week in a long line of them so status quo. Word is that it is about to become much worse at work with a huge financial gap hanging out there. The leg is doing well as to the procedure; the vein is closed and that's a good thing. Had to see the doc yesterday as I was having too much pain down by the wound area and am still in an Unna boot. Removed boot and the wound was terribly irritated and red but scabbed over. Doc "unroofed the wound" (removed the scab), I could live my life without having to deal with that pain again! Wound did not seem infected but definitely irritated and red. Put additional dressing on the wound, did an ultrasound of the area and had a new Unna boot done. Will see her again on Tues. Darn ankle hurts!! Linda - you definitely get the award for most frenetic and Murphy's law week! Hope all is well now with the toilet, with Bob recuperating from the colonoscopy and that cherry bread pudding sounded scrumptious. How is the howling noise from the AC now? Good luck with the car and the mammo today. Very nice to have the 3D available to you. Kathy - was chuckling a bit with Chele's raccoon avatar and your bear avatar; we're definitely dealing with the critters on this board! You certainly have had an extreme amount of rain! 6 inches in a week is no joking matter!! We have been dry yesterday and today but had rain on Thurs. and they are calling for more tomorrow. Nice that you and DM were able to get out to the grocery and not get soaked. Becky - beautiful avatar and I couldn't have said whether it was photo shopped or not but just truly pretty! I hope the Skechers work well for you. I have had a couple pair of them over the past few years, the memory foam is kind to my knees which is a good thing. I also like New Balance sneakers as they come in wide and have good support and enough room for insoles which I often will use. How are the knees this morning? You were a busy gal with all those errands the other day also. Chele - I don't blame you and Iggy for not wanting that cute little destructive raccoon taking up residency in your back yard. They are a nuisance and we have had issues with them occasionally in the neighborhood. They would come up out of the big sewer drains which wasn't exactly comforting. A few years ago Zoe tried to go after one while I was walking her and Ralphie in the late evening; had to really haul her back as she did not like that critter! How is the sciatica doing? The major muscle spasm must have what; caused things to move and not press on the nerves? Good luck with the farmer's today. I have a hair appointment at 9:30am and will do my usual stopping at Whole Foods on the way home. I haven't been to WallyWorld in several weeks; I also like to do my personal item shopping there and they are great for storage items and sundries. Karen - YAY on having comfy shoes for the "feets"! Glad you enjoyed your tacos and was wondering how the tummy is feeling now? Any luck with Arya letting you sleep in a little later? I didn't sleep particularly well last night due to pain but Wally had me up at 5:30am and then I took him and Zoe out for their walk and fed them. Wally is happily chomping on his Himalayan bone and Zoe is snoring while I type. Not much of a news flash but chronic pain is definitely not much fun and incredibly draining. Any plans for you and Dale this weekend? I am trying to just keep the walking, elevating and icing thing going. Nice that DSIL reached out and was looking to have you visit. I am going to do some reading on the various foods that are best served by using the air fryer; I have been told that it makes great chicken and brussel sprouts come out wonderful as well. I will report as I try things. Well dear ladies I am off to make some coffee and get myself ready to go out and face the day. Wishing you all a safe and restful Saturday! Ciao for now~

Thanks for the start, Liz. Do you think the doc will do another Unna on Tuesday or go with something smaller and more manageable? What do you think caused the irritation? OUCH on the scab removal. That hurt me just reading about it. What is different about a HHimalayan bone? Don't you love the sound of a snoring dog? I'm anxious to hear about your air fryer experences. I heard it does an amazing job on marinated tofu, but I wouldn't buy one just to fix that. Arya needed to go out around 5:30 and we went back to bed until 6:30. So that's the best night's sleep I've had in a couple of weeks.
Kathy, I'm not surprised you were having to water more frequently for a while. Same here. With the rain we've been having, I didn't have to water until today but the week before it was an everyday thing. Dale helped me get the drip hoses placed in the berry patch so that will be easier to water. Cereal is outrageous! Fortunately, Dale likes corn flakes and I can get a large box at Aldi for $1.69. Arya and I just eat oats and I can catch the organic ones on sale at Thrive Market online. Are you still enjoying mid-80s today? We got into the upper 50s again this morning and it's 77 right now on the way to low 80s.
How's Bob doing today, Linda? Is the process any different for the 3D mammo or is it still "smash and grab"? What's the word on your ignition?
Chele, what did the farmers have for you today? Have any of your plants starting producing veggies yet? I picked my first Asian eggplant today. That seems to be the only plant doing anything.
Glad you were able to find berries on sale this week, Becky. Was that HEB? I'll bet that Creamy Creations Butter Pecan ice cream is fabulous, with Texas pecans.
Dale worked outside most of the morning cutting the lespedeza (bush clover) that grows like a weed on a lot of our land. If he doesn't keep it cut back, it gets woody and almost impossible to eradicate. The deer eat some of it but not nearly enough. I printed out some more stuff to take to the NP on Tuesday, including my blood work, Dexascan, and mammo results from last year. I also printed out a good article on lifestyle medicine, which is essentially what I'm doing. It's 14 pages long and I don't have a printer that automatically does both sides, so that took a while. I spent a little time outside watering all the plants. We are going to have a decent crop of blackberries this year. I also picked a handful of blueberries. Some of my plants are really producing and some have nothing but leaves on them.

Hope the berry crop is “fruitful.”
Yeah, smash and grab ouch, but you only have to hold breath a couple seconds at the end and no sticky markers on skin tags or such.

Thanks for the start Liz.I'm sorry it looks like work is going to get even crazier.Removing the scab from the wound had to be so painful.I'm glad that's over and hopefully you won't have to go through that again.I took my first walk wearing the Skechers this morning and they are so comfortable and do seem to help the knees somewhat.I also have a pair of NB sneakers but they aren't as comfortable as these Skechers.I will have to say the knees are some better except when I'm wearing like jeans or pants that touch the knees they feel like they are burning but under my right knee where it used to hurt when I bended it a certain way feels better. For some reason the injection site on the left knee is still tender but as my NP says I have very bony knees.I hope you can relax some this weekend.
Linda I'm sure you are glad your mammo is done with.I have never had the 3D one done.My NP said since I lost so much weight my breasts have very low density whatever that means.I don't blame you for not wanting to be stranded in your heat.
Karen Yes the berries were on sale at HEB.Our local WM is so expensive on fruit so I never buy it there. No produce or meat at WM.I don't trust their meat. The only Creamy Creations flavor I have ever tried was vanilla and that was before WW so that's a long time ago.Did you hear about the founding family of Whataburger selling most of their holdings to a Chicago bank? They said it is a bank which has a proven track record of expanding a business. They kept some of the holdings and the corporate office will remain in SA and the founder will remain as CEO and several people are being promoted to managing positions. It looks like nothing is changing except it won't be family owned anymore.I didn't know they started in Corpus Christi. They showed their first store on the news this morning.I was reading the Austin Statesman and he told about how they got their name. They wanted to make a burger so big you had to use both hands to eat it and after the second bite they wanted you to be able to say What a burger. They are in a few other states and I guess they want to expand into more. They bring in $2B a year with the majority being from their TX locations of course.
Kenneth wanted a CFS for Fathers Day so after dropping a couple of things at a friends house we went to the cattle auction diner. He got his CFS.The other special was a pork roast so I did order that instead of the usual grilled chicken salad I get there.Other than being smothered in gravy(although the gravy was very good)it was tasty. The only sides they offered was mashed potatoes, grilled cabbage and black eye peas.I have never been a fan of the peas so I ordered the mashed potatoes and grilled cabbage.I have never had it grilled before it wasn't bad but I kept tasting it for an hour later. The dessert was chocolate cake and I did eat 3 bites of that and surprisingly it wasn't too sweet for me for once.Of course our friend whom we dropped off the things to and who has paid our bill before did so again today. It is really nice of him and it seems like the only way we can pay for our own is to not let him know we are coming and eat after he has gone into the auction.
Waves to Kathy.

Liz, really sorry to hear that work could get worse and that you had to go through such awful pain with the wound. I was wincing just reading it. Hopefully, that's the worst of it and it will heal properly. We certainly do have our share of critters to deal with on this board. I didn't see anything but a mallard duck paddling around in the pond today. One of our other ponds had a family of Muscovy ducks move in and I saw on our neighborhood Next Door page that someone took it on themselves to kill the ducks. They aren't native to FL and it's not illegal to kill them, but I know some people were enjoying them. Our rainy days have continued since I heard the 6 inches figure, so I don't know what our current total is. Hope you get some relaxation time in tomorrow.
Linda, hope you have a calmer week next week.
Karen, we're only allowed to water twice a week and on certain days, so that's why the lawns got so parched when it was dry and hot. Some of the Publix cereals are pretty good and much cheaper. I usually look out for BOGOs on the brand name ones. It's still in the mid 80s and overcast. We had some rain earlier and I think tomorrow is supposed to be wetter. Would love to see some weather in the 50s, but I'll have to wait until late October or November. Nice to have those berries from your plants.
Becky, sounds like a nice meal and so nice of your friend to pay for it. I saw the news on Whataburger. I wonder if they'll expand to this area. They have some in North Florida, but not down here.
Chele, how were the Farmer's Markets?

Becky I keep seeing grill recipes for very unlikely things!
Kathy, it pains me that so many people just want to kill animals.

Just whizzing by quickly. Busy weekend. Found strawberries (last of), kohlrabi, arugula, candy onions, sweet peas, asparagus (last of), yellow cherry tomatoes, broccoli. No peaches yet.
I just glanced through posts. Liz, thanks for the start and I hope the wound is not as painful today.
Linda, I hope the dealer got the key not turning issue fixed.
Waving to Karen, Kathy and Becky.
I will read posts when I have time. Have a good Sunday, All. Not doing anything exciting. Just boring “stuff.” It is raining AGAIN.

Chele, have you tried any of Teavana's new craft brewed iced teas? There are a couple that are caffeine-free that I may look for at the grocery store. You brought home quite a haul from the farmers' markets. What's on the menu for this week? No peaches is a bit of a surprise because they are everywhere here and I will get some on Tuesday. We haven't had strawberries for a couple of weeks. Sorry you're getting rain again. I thought you might because they are getting more where Dale was last weekend in IN. It was bad enough there that he wore his Muck boots every day and was glad he had them. He was also the envy of everyone with muddy feet. He would need them even more if he was there this weekend.
My knees seem to be a bit bony too, Becky I notice it the most when I'm in bed. I have to have a bolster pillow between them or I wake up in major pain. I guess that memory foam in the Skechers must be the real deal. Odd that the injection site on the left knee is still sore. I would think that should have faded by now. I hadn't heard about Whataburger. I suspected there was a story like you related on how they chose their name. $2B is a lot of money, even for a large state like Texas. I thought they had originally been out of SA and didn't know about CC.
Linda, I also have elderberries blooming, so I hope to have a fruitful summer, thank you. Of course, the elderberries are medicinal and I won't harvest them until early fall. I think we have a 3D mammo locally, so I hope I can have one this time. I have very dense breast tissues and fibrous cysts from time to time. So I have had to go back more than once for a re-do because they didn't smoosh enough. Good that Kenneth got his CFS. Pretty small selection on sides. Is that normal for that restaurant? Sweet of your friend to pay again and glad the cake wasn't too sweet.
That's awful about someone killing the ducks, Kathy. There is no excuse for that. I hope they were at least approached by local fish and game or whoever enforces those laws. I saw what I think is a Great Egret while I was on the kayak today. Impressive! I hadn't even thought about your having water restrictions with the rain you've been having. Are you allowed to have rain barrels or some kind of catchment system? I had the berries for dinner and they were excellent.
Liz, how's the wound and have you been behaving? Any idea when you might start back to PT?
Dale pulled another tick off me last night. I think that's 3 so far this year. this one was on my right hip and I wouldn't have realized it was there but it started to itch. It was a very small one and hadn't attached all the way so I should be fine. It's itching like crazy, however. I was on the kayak for about an hour and it was a bit of a challenge because we had wind gusts up to 25 mph, which was comfortable, but make paddling a bit of a challenge. I even encountered some white caps, which were worse when a boat was in the vicinity. Of course, now that I'm in the house, it's only gusting to about 7 mph. Got some good Vitamin D but had a whiny pup when I came in. I guess I wasn't supposed to go anywhere. I'm going to try my hand at homemade oil-free hummus because I can't find my favorite brand in a grocery store on this side of the mountain. Hope it comes out well so I won't have to buy it any more.

Linda, I was sad to hear about the ducks. They could of become a problem for our small ponds here, but seems like they could've been relocated if they were causing problems. Karen, I hate that they killed the ducks. This was the duck family I mentioned a few days ago that had 15 chicks, but I don't know if they killed the chicks too. The woman that posted about the ducks was trying to find out if killing them was illegal and if she should report it. The answer was that they aren't native to FL and it's not illegal to kill them. Here's some info on them from the Florida Wildlife Commission: Muscovy ducks Seems like there could've been a better solution though. They discourage us from keeping any standing water here due to mosquitoes. I saw a Great Egret in the pond the other day. They're so pretty and graceful. That must've been impressive to see one up close. Yikes on the tick! Chele, we still have strawberries in the store, but they've gotten expensive, so I passed. It's raining AGAIN here too with a lot of lightning. The wind blew some water up under the front door. I haven't had that happen in a long time.

Chele You made a good haul at the farmers market.I hope your rain goes away.
Karen I have loose skin everywhere b/c of my weight loss but there is absolutely no extra skin on my knees hence her bony knees remark.Whataburger is in a few other states but the majority of the $2B does come from TX.Their corporate office is in SA and that is where they are keeping it.The diner is only open during the weekly cattle auction on Saturdays. They have a menu but they also run 2 specials each Saturday and one is always CFS.
Kathy You can send us about 2" of your rain if you want to.
Waves to all and thanks for the laugh Linda.

Becky, I'd send you some of this rain if I could. Just saw that our forecast for next week is "wetter". That doesn't seem possible! We got another 3 inches today and it's still raining.

Kathy, 3 inches is a lot of rain! And more to come isn't good news. Does the pond overflow? Not good when water blows in under a door. Is the seal wearing out or was it just that much rain? That's a shame about the ducks, even if it's not illegal. Same here with the neighbor who killed the geese a couple of years ago. I hope the ducks were at least dinner so it wasn't a total waste. Rain barrels are enclosed, so there wouldn't be any standing water. You could easily fill one up with as much rain as you have gotten and are expecting. We may have a wet week as well but I don't think we are expecting several inches to fall. It was amazing to watch the egret fly off. They really are graceful. We have strawberries in the stores, too, but they are no longer on sale. So, like yours, they are a bit pricey.
It takes a long time to lose that loose skin in places, Becky. And it's more difficult as we get older. We're just not as elastic in a number of ways. Sound like you lost more around your knees. Interesting that the diner has such a limited time to be open. I guess they get enough business during the auctions that they don't need to be open more often. It's good that CFS is always an option, since Kenneth likes it so well.
Love the fur father's day card. Cute! What's going on at your house today? Still 100+ on the thermometer?

Karen, I hope the ducks were at least dinner too and it is a shame. They were becoming a bit of a problem at one intersection and I wonder if some homeowners were having issues. I guess the 15 chicks were probably a concern since I don't know where they would all go. It still seems awfully harsh though. The pond has a large drain on one end that goes into the storm drainage system. The county is good about making sure the storm drains are working properly and they didn't flood during any of the hurricanes, so it should be okay.
I had water under the door even when the seal was brand new, so it just seems like the force of the wind can blow the water under. I tried adding additional weather stripping, but it didn't seem to help. There is just no protection on that door if the wind blows right towards it. I even got water inside the peep hole during the hurricanes! Adding a storm door might help, but DM has had all kinds of problems with the one she has. Another option might be to screen in the whole entryway. I just know to check it when we've had a good storm and I put towels there if a hurricane or tropical storm is coming. How do you use your rain barrel? We probably won't have another real dry spell until October or November, although you never know. I wouldn't want to worry about a large object in the yard during a hurricane, so that's another issue. They said we had around 50mph winds today, so that's over tropical storm force.
