The sun is shining today. I have done some laundry but have more to do along with some dusting and sweeping that should be done before tomorrow evening when my daughter arrives. The remaining indoor cat is spry as a kitten and seems much happier now that she is the only cat inside. I hope she has quite a few years of enjoying her single-hood and not having to share my lap with any other cat. I will miss the kitty that has departed BUT will enjoy Moggy on my lap when she deigns to sit on it. Cherry: When we have soap made locally they use olive oil usually and the man who has done ours in the past will add in coconut or shea or avocado or oats or aloe or scent...interesting. Did you make the chili? Bet it hit the spot. I like it with cornbread though it is not low in points - especially with butter and honey Lynn: I hope you got everything unpacked and are ready for the dinner at the senior home. How much has to be wrapped for niece and nephew? Beverly: 72 sounds warm! It was 40 outside (or lower) and 50 inside. Have not made cookies in years...they sound good for some reason. Pam: Your posts always make me smile. You mentioned sister and brother - how many siblings do you have? I have one of each - both younger than I am.

Good morning. I use olive oil in my soap too. I use a blend of beef tallow, lard, coconut oil for lather, olive oil, some canola oil, and a little castor oil. The canola oil helps cut back a bit on the cost of the olive oil although it does add its own qualities to the soap. I also have recipes using other things in place of or in addition to some of the usual oils in my soap. Some of the butters or oils I use to replace part of my usual oils are cocoa butter, shea butter, mango butter. I also make some with finely ground oatmeal in it and goat milk for the liquid. Usually I use water. I've also used palm kernel oil in place of or part of the coconut oil. It is a lathering oil too. They are what makes the nice soap bubbles when you wash with the soap.
I did make the chili and also a pan of cornbread to go with it. Roger kept saying "Mmmm, Mmmm" while he was eating so it really did hit the spot with him. Me too. I don't think I've had chili since last winter some time. Now I have about a pound of hamburger left to make something else. Some soup perhaps. There is that cheeseburger soup that I made and liked really well, but I have to get some processed cheese in order to make it. I'll be going in to town on Wed. so I may do that.
The weather has taken a complete turn. The low last night was 22 above zero rather than below. The high so far since midnight was 27 above. I like these above zero temperatures. Above freezing is even better.
Have a great day, beaches.

Good morning beaches!!!! Cold here, 17 deg. this morn. Nothing compared to where Cherry is!! Cherry, my mom used to save up all the grease from her cooking to make soap. She saved the bacon grease, etc. That is why the soap was always brown in color. We used it for everything!!! Laundry (she would grate it into the wash), bathing, shampoo, & everything else that we needed soap for, even dishwashing. We were very poor, but also very happy. I would like to try to make soap again, I had said that I was going to make it when I retired, but I have never done it. Cathy, 50 deg inside your home??? That is brutal!!! I only had one sibling, a sister that was 7 yrs older than me. I lost her in 2010. She didn't have any children, so therefore I have no nieces or nephews. With our parents both gone, I feel very much alone. Enjoy your siblings while you have them!!! Thank God, I have my 3 adult kids & my wonderful 11 yr old grandson. We made so many cookies yesterday!!! Now I have to live with the temptation all around me!!! I am pretty strong until late at night, then I often go crazy!!! I will endure them till after Xmas, whatever is left after that, I dump in the trash. We make them every year, it has gotten to be a real family tradition. Great day all!!
