Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Cloudy right now, but supposed to clear for the day, but chilly at 68. I may be going out on a limb, but I have a feeling that here in North East Wisconsin, we most likely will not see a 90 degree day this summer. First day of summer is Friday.....
Pinky, did you get the lawn mowed? We too have rain in the forecast, from Friday thru Sunday. (Of course!) Omg, I forgot to take a pictures of the balcony! Imagine that! Lol. I will try today, as I think I am done out there, with decorating. (For the summer). Congrats on getting all the planting done!! What a nice feeling huh?
Marsha, LOL!!! So you can't throw Mitzi in the dryer?? Hahaha!!! That was so cute! I think eventually we all will get like the residents in Seattle, or London, who have to deal with rain all the time, and just go about whatever they want to do, as in your case, of taking a walk in it...way to go!!! The wok was popular I think in the 90's, as I remember my Dad getting one and getting obsessed with doing stir fry's. Since my Mom passed away in 2002, that is how I can figure those things out. So I can see where your DD has not heard of it, since I think it kind of died out. That's funny about your old frying pan. My Mom had one like the one you described. She loved it...don't remember what we did with it, maybe it went into the rumage sale we had for my Dad.
Gareth, you lucked out with your walk! I have had that happen to me, when I used to walk, out at the old house. There were a few times I would start walking and turn around 1/4 of a mile out, since it would start to rain, and I didn't want to be stuck out there in a rain storm. When we moved into our house in 2000, all that was available for TV was satelite, which we got and hated. It took a couple years to get our telephone company to offer cable TV and internet thru the phone. But it was a different kind of hookup, where you could use your phone and be on the net at the same time. We sure have come a long way since the early 90's!
Carol, I have 2 crockpots, one of them being from my mother, and that is the one I use the most. Hers has the inner liner that comes out to wash. Mine doesn't, which I hate! I only use that one if I need 2. Both of mine are like yours, Hi, Medium and Low. Nothing fancy. I know what your DD was going thru when working and seeing everyone she knew. I had that while working at the grocery store, that year and a half. That store was the closest to the area where we lived and the area of the church we used to go to, so we would see friends from town, who would be stopping in on their way up north, and all the people from church. If I worked 1 shift and did not talk to someone I knew, then it must have been bad weather or something like that, to keep people home, lol.
The needling was very interesting. She put in a total of 9 needles. She went according to where all the stiffness and pain was, which was around the incision. There was only 2 needles that I cringed at, which she said meant that was where a lot of scar tissue was. I did not watch, as she had me laying down. I did not know what to expect, pain wise so I was all ready to do deep breathing, and not watch. I can watch things like that, but not knowing the procedure, I thought it best not to. She warned me that I would have pain for a day or 2, but to work thru it. She was right...last night was not fun! But I did see some improvement, range of motion wise. Will go for the 2nd procedure next Tuesday, and hopefully that will do the trick, along with the stretches I am doing. She is confident that between all this, I will eventually be able to take walks and do the 5K run/walk the end of Sept. FINGERS CROSSED!
Today is house cleaning day (DH has an appointment later this morning, so it will be quiet in here to get that done!). Tomorrow I will get back to the Y.
Have a nice day everyone.

No rain for us now until tomorrow so that is good.
Karen--I didn't get as much mowing done as I had hoped as I kept getting distractions---a couple customers needing more seed and another returning a couple of extra bags. DGD was here for an hour and 1/2 after volleyball camp and although her dad(DS) was working in the office I wanted to spend time with her and stuff like that. I did get a big chunk done and now without rain today maybe I can finish. We shall see---never know for sure what to expect around here. Glad you have already seen improvement from the needling and the positive response on getting walking again-----you go girl!!!
I need to get busy---already had 2 customers stop by before 8 a.m. and I need to get my bottle calves fed. One of you asked about them yesterday and they are doing great. I always laugh at bottle calves year after year because once they get used to me, when they see me they lick their lips. I have 3 of the 4 of them drinking out of pails now so that saves a lot of time. We are actually looking for a home for them. Bottle calves just never grow like those calves that have their mom's milk. Feel like by the time you buy all of the milk replacer and the calf food it is more worth it to just sell them now and not keep buying food and they just don't progress like the others. We have a couple of people that feed calves and would buy them or another guy would like them to just keep the grass down in pens he no longer uses. As cute as they are right now I get tired of the time involved with them and fine to see them go on to somewhere else.

It was drizzling when I got up but had quit by time I wanted to walk. I took an umbrella along to be on the safe side. My favorite crockpot is the Ninja that DS and family gave me years ago. Love the removable liner and that it has a setting to brown things along with a timer that switches to stay warm. Seems like I'm always in a hurry when I stop by so again no time to chat with each of you. Gotta get a shower, breakfast and off to work.

Karen - I am encouraged that you already have a little bit better range of motion. I did not walk this morning and I was surprised how chilly it was when I left for work. DD has an interview at a shoe store on Friday since the summer does not look promising for lifeguards. She did pick up a shift yesterday. She went for weekly training and I guess someone was trying to find someone to take their shift same day so she jumped at the chance. The lake wasn't busy.
Pinky - I asked about the calves. Glad they are doing great. I would end up treating them like pets and that wouldn't end well. My sil in Australia has a hobby farm and she keeps about 5 cows at a time just to keep the grass down.
Hi Gareth.
My favorite (old!) crockpot has a removeable liner for washing. I got it as a shower gift and it is still working great. It has low and high, no fancy settings, no timer, just basic cookery. I made beef stew in the IP last night and it was a lot faster than making it in the crockpot plus I didn't have to think about it in the morning. Came out good. I'm trying to determine if I still need a crockpot. Maybe I can get rid of both of them.

The slow cooker I got when we got married was not a crockpot. The pot part sat on heating plate sort of like coffee makers do now. Consumer Reports said that kind wasn't very good because it took the food a long time to heat all the way through and wouldn't keep it at a safe temperature. The one I got to replace it and still use is a Wear-Ever. The pot is removeable which is great. It doesn't even have a medium setting, just high and low. I will be sad when it gives out, but I have gotten a lot out of it.
The needling sounds interesting. It is encouraging you can feel a difference.
Morning didn't go like I planned. I needed to pay several bills and had trouble logging on to on-line banking. It didn't recognize my user name and password which we have used for a long time. I got a temporary one and was able to get the bills paid, but will have to call and talk to a real person about why it didn't recognize the log-in. I really like banking on-line, but it can be a pain when things don't work right. After the bills got paid and I was putting things away, I found a bunch of stuff that needed shredding. I went ahead and did that since tomorrow is when the recyclables are picked up. I also did a couple of loads of laundry.
We got a little bit of rain in the night and should get a little more this evening.

Karen, I’m so happy to hear the needling went so well! Will there only be two treatments? I wonder if this is something new in the medical field, or like acupuncture it’s been around for centuries?! Anyway, I’m glad it’s showing signs of helping. I hope DH comes back from his apt. feeling better than when he left. I have 3.5 and 5 quart crockpots which I still use, especially the 3.5 since it’s only the two of us. The ceramic part comes out in both for easier cleaning. I remember having one many years ago that didn’t and it was a pain to clean. In fact, I think I have it away. Has anyone ever used those liners so there is virtually no clean up at all? I think Reynolds makes them.
Speaking of banks, last week I went through the drive through with my debit card just to have some extra cash on hand, and I couldn’t use it. The next day I called and sure enough, it was closed due to inactivity! I really don’t remember the last time I used it - maybe 8-10 months ago. And of course, time spent opening up a new debit card account. So at least with this bank, they’re forcing us to withdraw periodically just keep the account open! So much for emergencies.

Anngie - I occasionally use those crock pot liners. Sometimes when I go to AZ I leave meatball stew cooking in the crockpot for dh to eat and in that case I will use the liner because he is notorious for rinsing and calling things clean. But when I am home I prefer to just spray the inside before cooking. I don't find the pot difficult to clean and I find it easier to scoop out of the pot if there is no liner. Of course, if I use a roast then the liner makes it easier to remove everthing that is in the pot.
