People over 60 have a different metabolism than those who are younger, and weight loss gets harder as one ages. This thread is for us.
Join us! Share your ideas, your successes, your frustrations. Offer support. Get advice from folks who are on a similar journey.
Our challenge is to stay on plan, exercise and keep trying to lose weight while improving our overall health -- and maintaining a positive attitude!
Think about where you were and how you felt when you made the initial decision to join The Senior WW Challenge. Close your eyes and remember when you said to yourself “Entough is enough and I’m getting in shape!” On a scale of 1 to 10, how serious are you? You really need to be an eight or higher! If not, you should probably reevaluate your thoughts and feelings about regaining great health in your life.
If the thread has not been started for a day, and you are ready to post, feel free to get us started.
Questions of the day: Monday; Tuesday; Wednesday: Sharon; Thursday: Ruth; Friday: Recipe Sharing; Saturday: Karen C; Sunday: Gail.

June 30 is the end of the AARP walking challenge. If you participated, good for you. I fell off the wagon after the first cardiologist visit. I did note though that counting steps provided more exercise than walking 30 minutes. I need to put a battery in the Omron pedometer. Light aerobic exercise for me begins Friday. I got a brochure and letter from the hospital to sign up for cardiac rehab. I’d do the 12 week program for sure, but we are leaving. I feel conflicted about that.
I feel like some of us are floundering without all the WW guidelines. AOTD: Is there a specific set of food guidelines you follow to shed pounds? If not, now is a good time to make one.
My guidelines (currently) 1. Track my food where I can get nutrient breakdown for the day. I use SparkPeople. There are other good programs too. 2. Eat healthy fats, reduce or eliminate saturated fat. 3. Get more fiber, 20-35 mg daily is good. 4. Watch carbs, but at least eat the more complex ones, not simple sugars. 5. Limit fruit to 2-3 daily. 6. Keep sodium under 2000 mg daily, 1500 is better but it’s hard. 7. I’ve decided not to worry too much about protein. Eating vegan I get 40-50 g and I’m not always vegan. 8. Less processed package foods and more scratch cooking at home. I’m not that busy anyway.

Feeling a lot better since starting back on the meds. Have lost 3.5 pounds in just two days so know I was really retaining a lot of water! We got the final invoice for the windshield. They did replace the whole window and if it hadn't been covered would have cost $400! But it was strange that on the statement they said the crack was due to high heat so the window they put on is a solar window which is heat and cold proof.
Taking our Prizm to a mechanic Fred has used before as the a/c isn't working. We think it just needs freon but if not won't bother getting it fixed as it's got a lot of miles and isn't driven much as it is the car I drive and since my chauffeur feels he needs to go everywhere I go I just don't drive much anymore. I will drive it to the mechanic though as we have to leave it. Then at 9 a company is coming to vacuum out the ducts in the house. We've had it done before by this company but not for a few years and Fred said with the amount of hair we sweep up daily from Bailey he hates to think of the buildup in the ducts.
Will be waiting anxiously to hear from Debbie once her lawyer contacts her to tell her how things go at court this morning. Since this is just another status hearing and to set a trial date she doesn't have to be there.
Other than that nothing going on here today. Aldis is having a special sale today on ribs so we're going to get some. I know it's not the best thing for me to have but I am craving them and will weigh out an amount.
QOTD: I do track on mfp so can see carbs and sugar. Try to have fruit when wanting something sweet. But also trying for more veggies each day. I need to do the walking but it's so easy to just let it go. I have an Omron and just replaced the batteries and am up to around 3,000 steps daily but want to try for 5,000 and eventually get back to 10,000.

Good morning
KC I thanked you for the info but don't see a post from me so don't know where it went. I need to make some calls before I go anywhere with the coins.
Today I am off to Bible study but didn't quite get all 5 days done.
Sorry it will be so hot when Jeff gets here and hope the heat index will be lower next week.

Good morning all.
It took awhile but summer has finally arrived. It will be hot and humid today. I'm not a big fan of this type of weather because it really affects my lymphedema and it's very uncomfortable wearing the compression pantyhose when it's really hot and sticky. Having said that, it will be a nice change from all the rain.
I ended up going with my DD/DGD to see the new Toy Story movie yesterday afternoon. It was really good. If you're in the mood to see an uplifting family movie, I recommend it highly.
Jane, I've done a Jennifer Rothchild study but it was several years ago. I agree with you that she's a terrific Bible study teacher. Enjoy the class and don't worry about getting all the homework done.
Sandy, I'm so glad you've discovered the reason for the weight gain. Prayers to Debbie for some good news today.
Sharon, thanks for reminding us about guidelines. I try to follow the old WW guidelines but of course, being human, I'm not 100% successful.
Not much going on here today except for my life group meeting tonight. I'm looking forward to it. Two of the couples in my group have decided to go to a different group. They were the two youngest couples (we have a nice mix of ages) and they each have a 4 yr old boy. The group they joined has lots of kids so it makes sense for them to be around other young families. I'll miss them a lot.

Good Morning!
Today we are going home. There is a heat advisory in Tampa (it figures), temps 97 to 99 with heat index of 108 to 110, and we have company coming and I am sure the pool needs cleaned since we were gone. We will do the best we can.
This morning I walked 57 minutes. I have done very well on the Walking Challenge. I have walked every day and averaged 67 minutes a day with my highest day 165 minutes and my lowest 26 minutes.
This 5 day mini vacay has left me with an expanded waistline. YUK! And I had been doing so well! I just have not been as mindful, nor as careful as I have generally been. Back at it immediately! Will come up with my guidelines for the QOTD shortly.

Debbie hasn't heard from her lawyer yet but looked online and a pre-trial is set for July 22nd and a trial is set for August 27th so she thinks Jeff is given until the 22nd to agree to something and if he doesn't then a trial will be August 27th and at that time everything would be decided by the judge. So sounds hopeful and it would be great if it could be done the 22nd so she could really celebrate on her vacation but at least we know if not the 22nd of July it will be done by the 27th of August. At least that's what we think so it'll be interesting to see what her lawyer says.

I am beat. This heat is not our FL norm and I worry about Kelc y and the driveway so manage to get him on the grass quickly and then back inside. My car was so hot that the steering wheel was awful but the heat on the seat felt good on my back.
I have filled out the paper work for the church regarding the line dance class and hope that gets scheduled I asked for either Wed. or Thurs and 5 -6 weeks to see how it goes.
I went to Walmart and got the things Jeff eats that I don't have available-- Bud beer, regular ginger ale, Starbucks pike peat coffee, a mix of miniature candy bars, potato chips and spicy brown mustard. I will wait until Monday after line dance to pick up some sandwich stuff. I was in sticker shock from just those few items but want him to have something he likes. I actually needed milk and vinegar and silicon spray for the tracks of the hurricane shutters and the only other thing I bought was 2 ears of corn It was strange shopping from my usual stuff. I never even went down the frozen food aisles.
I think I have recovered enough to go have some lunch. I just needed to cool off.

Oh yes, unusually hot. We were out with errands and I was half sick from the heat.
Guess what?! We are leaving here Friday morning at the crack of dawn. I talked with the cardiologists assistant and she said since I was able to access the surgeons notes there was no need to a follow up. That’s all they would have told me.
I am excited because we will get to see DD and DH and DGS age 7. They will only be in Illinois 3 days overs the 4th of July.
You may not hear much from me for a few days. Hurrying to gather things to pack. Also I must worry about the fridge and the food.

Sharon, When are you leaving for up north?
Sandy, Way to go on listening to your body with regards to the BP meds. You are doing awesome with getting that water weight off!
We just got home. On our way home we developed a slow leak in the right rear tire of the Lexus. We had to stop and fill with air 4 times on a 2 1/2 hr trip. YIKES! We will go to Costco to get it checked out later as that is where Mike got his Michelin tires. Then when we got home we found that our garbage disposal was broken and it leaked beneath the sink while we were gone. Fortunately there was a plastic pan holding cleaning supplies that caught all of the water but everything in it had to be pitched because everything was slimy. YUK! We have a repairman coming tomorrow but will not be convenient having company. Sigh.... It's always something.

Ruth we are leaving for up north (Illinois) early Friday morning. We’ll be gone 2 1/2 or 3 months. I’ll still check in pretty often as we have unlimited data and my iPad.
We’ll travel2 1/2 days and arrive at Don’s sis Sunday midday. Monday morning we’ll pull the camper out of storage and take it to the campground.
Wow that’s crummy that your tire leaks and had the under sink mess. It’s always something isn’t it?
The house is a mess with things to pack everywhere. I’m done for the night.....maybe.
