"The tortilla chip is most commonly served with salsa, chile con queso, guacamole, cheese dips or other dips. Tortilla chips are made from corn tortillas that have been cut into wedges and then fried. The corn tortillas are made from corn, vegetable oil, salt and water. Typically made with yellow corn, tortillas can also be made with white, blue or red corn. Even though tortilla chips have always been considered to be a Mexican food, known as tostados, they were first mass-produced in Los Angeles in the late 1940s. It is said that the triangle-shaped tortilla chips were made popular by Rebecca Webb Carranza as a way to use the misshapen tortillas that were rejected from the automated tortilla manufacturing machine that she and her husband used at their Los Angeles deli and tortilla factory. Carranza realized that once the discarded tortillas were cut into triangle shapes and fried, they became a popular snack. She then sold them for a dime a bag at the El Zarape Tortilla Factory. Carranza received the Golden Tortilla Award in 1994 for her contribution to the Mexican food industry. The United States is one of the primary markets for tortilla chips. Another favorite dish made with tortilla chips is nachos. The dish was first created around 1943 by Ignacio “Nacho” Anaya. Nachos are tortilla chips served with melted or shredded cheese, and often additional toppings are added, such as meat, salsa, refried beans, tomatoes, diced onion, lettuce, olives, jalapenos, guacamole and sour cream." www.nationaldaycalendar.com/national-tortilla-chip-day-february-24/Cute story thought I would share. oh and it is also National Skip the Straw Day, really?!? I'm afraid to try Tortilla chip day after my margarita day experience.
I had a margarita at our favorite place we go to that has burritos and tacos on Wed.
It was the WORST margarita I have ever had in my life. there was a new young girl at the bar and basically she just poured syrup out of the bottle into a glass, added sprite, maybe some Tequila was in there- Shook it so hard there was foam on top, then poured into into a soda glass with a straw!
For the salt on the rim, she use table salt!
It was really gross. i should have sent it back but I don't like to make a fuss. but it was gross

This is one day I would be willing to celebrate...skip the straw day...not so much!I don't even use straws so I guess that means I have to celebrate something else instead.Really,It does seem they could have come up with a better day to celebrate than skip the straw day.How about I killed my cat b/c she woke me up at 3:30 this morning day or it will be in the 80's in TX again day?Either one would work for me.

Oops, didn't realize DebDoesWW started a "today is thread."
But since it's also World Bartender Day, what'll you all have to go with those tortilla chips?
