Some ideas for healthy living during summer - 8 ideas, I'll post 4 today and 4 on Saturday. 8 Summer Steps for Healthy Living www.webmd.com/women/features/8-summer-steps-for-healthy-living#11. Give Your Diet a Berry Boost Blueberries and blackberries are especially antioxidant-rich. A big bonus: Berries are also tops in fiber, which helps keep cholesterol low and may even help prevent some cancers. 2. Get Dirty -- and Stress Less To improve your stress level, plant a small garden, cultivate a flower box, or if space is really limited, plant a few flower pots -- indoors or out. 3. Floss Daily Flossing reduces oral bacteria, which improves overall body health, and if oral bacteria is low, your body has more resources to fight bacteria elsewhere. 4. Get Outside to Exercise Pick one outdoor activity -- going on a hike, taking a nature walk, playing games such as tag with your kids, cycling, roller blading, or swimming -- to shed that cooped-up feeling of gym workouts. Comments or thoughts? Some you already do or maybe something to aim for?

I probably need to do all of these more. Berries here are a seasonal thing.

I've been aiming for more berries, fresh or frozen. I also garden. And I need to get in more exercise, either indoors or out. I am doing more moving since my girls and I are cleaning and organizing my basement.

I love blueberries!! I was at an event the other night where one of them women brought fresh blueberries from her garden!! They were just delicious. Blackberries grow wild here, though I am not too anxious to climb through the brush & briers to get to them. I usually just pick up a few at the market. I am an armchair gardener, I love planning it & planting it in the spring, but when it gets this hot, I am thinking "why on earth did I do this?" Now I have to water it & gather the fruits. I tend to really neglect things this time of year. I do floss daily, I have had oral surgery, so it is important to me. Right now, exercise is limited to inside, it is too hot outside, soon as the weather cools I will be outside again walking.

Just a quick note (I've been busier than usual this summer; please excuse my continuous absences). For those of you who don't want to add sugar to grapefruit, consider eating only the red (sometimes called pink) grapefruit. I buy Ruby Red grapefruit every time I find it in stores, peel and section (like a naval orange) to eat it. I LOVE Ruby Reds! Other pink grapefruit are okay, but Ruby Reds are really truly delicious. (On my honeymoon, age 18, we were in Washington, DC; I ordered 1/2 grapefruit the first morning at the hotel and it came with sugar already on it. I cringed! Couldn't eat it; the sugar overpowered the taste of the fruit such that all I could taste was sugar. Will never forget it!)
If possible, I'll BBL.

I have 3 lbs of blueberries in my fridge right now. Had some for breakfast. It is blueberry and cherry season here right now, so I am eating one or the other every day (sometimes I have both). There were blackberry bushes that were relatively easy to pick, but I haven't been out to see if there are any blackberries on the bushes this year.
Beverly, I agree, I get tired of watering and having to go out and check the garden every day. Much funner to plan and plant it. but I do love the results.
I should floss more. Good reminder.

I’m loving the blueberries and cherries right now as well. I am flossing more and aiming to make it a regular thing. No planting or digging for me. 😉 thanks for all of the thought provoking ideas.

Berries - I like them, finding quality fresh seems a challenge sometimes. For things like delicate fresh produce, I'd be better off to shop more often. Hoping to find some good looking cherries at the store.
Garden - Our garden is not overly big, so it is an enjoyable task to plant, tend (and eat the results). It took a bit to figure out the right size for enjoyment and not to feel like a chore.
Flossing - Another habit I need to develop. I'm not consistent - for no good reason!
Get outside - Summer days can vary a lot (hot, rain, insects!) (spring or fall are probably more likely to be pleasant days for being outdoors). When I had summers off work (before the summer meals program started 9 years ago), I'd walk at least 3 miles with our dog, every day, early in the morning. I did really enjoy that!
