Every Wednesday a group of my friends gets together for cards, lunch and nibbles. It is my turn this week. I am thinking about having a Buddha Bowl Buffet but wonder if that is enough. There will be fruit, sugar-free jello and perhaps ice cream for dessert, coffee to start and perhaps nuts or MORE veggies on the table while we play cards. I just wonder if a meal in a bowl they get to prepare themselves will be enough...

cathygeha, we've talked about this in another thread before and I personally think that's more then enough! I think you're basing 'enough' on the food orgy that the other ladies normally provide. Do you! This is a great idea and more than enough food, and it gives you the opportunity to show another way to entertain your Wednesday group. I would suggest getting rid of the ice cream and nuts though, because those are triggers for your 'normal Wednesday' gatherings, and you really don't need them. Instead, you could make a nice fresh fruit tart or something like that, that's mostly fruit with minimal crust. Show the ladies that crudite/hummus/babaganoush is sufficient for nibbles before lunch! I cant remember if alcohol is normally provided but you could also serve a nice summery drink like ginger & honey lemonade with sparkling water on the side for those who'd like to sip on something non alcoholic.

I think it sounds perfect and your friends can choose their own portions sizes.

I think it sounds delicious and I bet the ladies will like preparing their own bowl. I do have a question (for my future lunches I do with my lady friends) You aren't preparing all of these choices are you? For instance, under "Cooked grains" there are 4 choices named. Will you prepare 1 of those? Otherwise, it seems like there would be a lot of food for you to get together. I assumed you would only make 1 or 2 of each of the choices but want to be sure I understand. zazzles, stop by Texas on your way and DebDoesWW, and I will jump on your plane. Thanks!

I am considering the idea of a dip - perhaps diet labne (kind of like Greek yogurt) mixed with onion soup mix and veggies that are not offered as part of the buddha bowl and if there is ice cream it would be sugar free and some diet jello. There are a lot of fresh fruits, too, so a fruit dish for sure. We do have wine so it will be available and I was thinking iced tea with sugar-free lemonade that they can mix together if they want something cold other than wine...maybe some diet Pepsi for the one who drinks that, too.

I assumed you would only make 1 or 2 of each of the choices but want to be sure I understand. There will probably be around 8 women so I am thinking I will serve quinoa and brown rice - quinoia because one woman doesn't eat rice. I will have a variety of veggies (whatever we find in the market) and am thinking I will put them through the shredder (carrots and cabbage) and slicer (cucumbers and radishes) and there are frozen peas and tinned or fresh corn...a rainbow of colors. I have some pickles and olives I will put out and think I can put out soy sauce, hot sauce, might make a peanut or tahini sauce; I have sesame seeds and other seeds I can toast. I figure everything can be recycled as stir fry later or made into soup. I am not positive what I will have out but a variety of colors and cooked/steamed veggies as well as raw ones. www.adrianalovesfood.com/2018/04/22/buddha-bowl-bar-party-in-the-house/littleblueplates.com/2018/01/19/build-your-own-buddha-bowl/In the past I have done a Mexican tostada/burrito bar and have put out veggies, salsa, grated cheese, protein...etc. This sounds like something new we haven't done. I can have it done in advance and just pull it out of the frig.

Cathy, it is a wonderful idea.... I basically Buddah Bowl every day for lunch and I adore it. I am for sure a volume eater, and I find it very satisfying. Sounds like fun... Pretty much like a taco party in a bowl. Enjoy!!!

I think this is a great idea! Bowls are always a big hit at our house. Are you planning a protein? As a vegetarian, we usually do nuts, tofu (roasted crispy or smoked), chickpeas and sometimes egg as our options for our bowls.
