I don't have a recipe, per se, but when I was in Sitka, Alaska last year, my sister and I went to Annabelle's. It was recommended to us by the onboard port consultant who likes their clam chowder. Instead of bacon, they use chorizo sausage in their chowder and it gave it a nice kick and a different taste than standard clam chowder.

New England Clam Chowder From: WW Boards -- Whalom's Soup Thread Serves: 4 (Serving size: 1-1/2 cups)
1 tsp vegetable oil 2 slices turkey bacon, diced 1 small onion, finely diced 3 Tbsp all-purpose flour 1 cup skim milk 3-1/2 cups canned clam juice 2 medium potatoes, peeled and diced 1 can (10-1/2 oz) clams, and juice 1 tsp thyme, chopped 2 tsp parsley, chopped 1/8 tsp table salt, or to taste 1/8 tsp black pepper, or to taste
Heat oil in a nonstick pan over medium heat. Saute bacon and onion until onion is very soft. Stir in flour and cook 1 minute. Very gradually whisk in milk and clam juice. Bring to a simmer, add potatoes. Cover and cook until potatoes are tender.
Stir in clams, their juice, thyme and parsley. Bring to a simmer. Season with salt and pepper; serve.
