This is a thread devoted to those in their 50s & 60s and beyond who don't have children or grandchildren but live rich, full lives. Please feel free to join our stroll thru life and come back often for support and to share. ******* It is National Hot Dog Day. Iggy is mad about hot dogs. I wonât tell him what day it is. And for us gamblers, it is National Lottery Day. ******* Allergies still reign supreme. Mold and grass pollen are up. I woke up feeling the pressure, but since I donât have glaucoma, I took a decongestant and I am still congested but the pressure is easing. Fingers crossed, no headache today. So glad I have not had to go into an office. Iggy with all his health issues has felt sorry for me the past couple of days. I must look really bad. Kathy, I missed Prime Days completely. I hope you enjoy your deals. I am sure loading and unloading 2 sets of groceries in the heat and humidity zaps your strength. I did not go outside once yesterday. Becky, I can use Excedrin Migraine for a sinus headache but not for a classic migraine with the pain over ome eye and sensitivity to light and sound. I need the prescription meds for that. It is unusual for me to have a two day migraine, TG. I am glad you found something OTC that works for you. Stay cool. Linda, do you have to go to the prescription counter and sign your name for the âgoodâ Sudafed? We have to here because of the ingredient used to make meth. I meant to tell you how much I liked the boxers and cockatoo. Karen, what are you planning for the day? Staying home? I am sure thatâs what Arya votes for. Dale only has a couple more weeks of work, right? I am happy that the meeting went smoothly Monday night. Liz, whatâs the news from the vascular doc? Did you call about your hip? I hope Zoe is recovering well. Have a good Wednesday.

Thanks for the start, Chele. That's odd about the test at the optometrist showing pressure when there wasn't any. It's good that you were able to take the decongestant. Too bad it took so long for you to get the test done due to the tornado. Does Iggy prefer the all-beef or Oscar Meyers? Are you still having Barry effects? We have probably had about an inch of rain so far and more is expected. Our grass pollen is high and ragweed is moderate, as is mold. Still no headache, I hope.I woke up about 3 am with one but I think it was related to changing pillows. So I went back to the one I was using before I changed the sheets and the headache went away. Due to the arthritis in my neck from the ambulance accident, my pillow has to be at just the right height for support. I spent most of the morning working on the presentation for the master gardener meeting in September. I have to leave to pick up the CSA order in about half an hour. Maybe I need to stop somewhere for a Powerball ticket.
Becky, my Garmin should be coming any time. Can't wait! Anything going on with you and Kenneth? Are the fur babies doing ok?
What did you end up getting on Prime Day, Kathy? I was disappointed that I found absolutely nothing that even halfway interested me. How's the pond doing with all the rain you've been experiencing?
Liz, how is Zoe doing? And how's your pain level?
Was this a museum day for you, Linda? Is your humidity dropping, although your temperatures probably are not?
We had something really weird happen about Noon. Dale was in the kitchen having a sandwich, I was in the bedroom finishing watching The Price Is Right, and Arya was sitting on the couch in the living room. We suddenly heard a huge "BANG!" and I thought someone had shot at the house from close range. I ran across the hall to the studio just in time to see a young deer with a coyote hot on its heels running away from the front porch. As near as we can figure, the deer tried to escape from the coyote by thinking it could jump through one of our front windows. Dale went out with the .38 but didn't see or hear anything. We saw an adult deer hanging around unaccompanied, so I don't have a good feeling about the little Bambi's outcome. I've been looking for the local group of vultures to be circling if there were remains to be had and haven't seen them, so maybe the baby escaped. No damage to the window. Dale actually went out and cleaned it (that's a first!) to be sure. Arya has been a bit more skittish than usual and we think she may have seen the deer hit the window, or maybe he just heard it, given that she was only about 15 feet away. So that hopefully will be all my excitement for the day. May check back in later on.

Chele, glad you're feeling better. I don't think you missed much on the Prime Days. There were some good deals if you were in the market for electronics, but other than that I didn't see many big markdowns. They don't do the puff of air test on me anymore since it never works. They have another device they use in the office. Karen, I have a few LPs that I've been wanting to convert to mp3s, so my big Prime Day purchase was a portable turntable for $42. The regular price was $139, so it was a decent deal. I restocked some contact lens supplies that they had some small discounts on and got a pair of Isotoner slippers for $10. I also got the $5 credit for the gift card, so woohoo. While I was looking at turntables, I saw one like the one I donated to Goodwill years ago. It was more expensive and didn't have the ability to connect to anything other than a stereo. The new one has the ability to connect to a PC to record or to other speakers for better sound. That's bizarre on the noise. Hope the deer escaped. I heard this loud bang a few days ago and couldn't figure out what in the world it was. The next time I got in the shower I noticed a large bottle of shampoo had fallen in the tub, so I think that's what it was. It does jar your nerves when it's out of the blue like that. I'm glad the window was okay and hope the rest of your day is uneventful.
Liz, how are you and Zoe doing?
Waving to Linda and Becky.

Chele Thanks for the start. No hot dogs here today.Too much sodium for me and I didn't buy a lottery ticket either.I'm just too cheap I guess.Mold is still high here too although we are actually needing the rain.It has been so hot and humid.I hope your headache left.
Karen Odd about your headache leaving when you changed pillows.I hope you enjoy your Garmin.Nothing going on.We have just had errands to run and grocery shopping to do.Fire ants got in the house last night and was in our clothes and especially the night shirt I changed into so we were doing laundry at 8 PM.Fur babies are fine. That's awfully close for a coyote to come to the house.
Kathy That was a good deal on the turntable.I just bought a couple of real cheap items.
Waves to Linda and Liz.

wow, did not know a coyote would tackle anything that size. we know to watch out for small pets.
Yes we have the Sudafed law here too...but you can buy a huge automatic weapon while acting crazy with no problem, so you can go home and protect your meth lab! That Otc PE kind is worthless.
I have heard really loud noises when something small falls in the shower...think it is a combo of material it hits and the echo chamber!
I know what you mean about pillows and headache. Most people do not realize that effect on neck and shoulder causes muscle aches and headaches.
Starting a huge sorting and numbering project at the museum to get a lot of stuff from Tempe High cataloged and stored. It began back in 1800s, but most is post 1960.
Only 108 by four today, so when I got home, Micki got a quick walk to the corner water retention park.
Not much else...stomach off , so lunch was a trip to a nice ice cream place for a small cone.
Dinner will be veggie burgers I tried at Costco with a couple salads.

Kathy, great find on the turntable. We got a special software package we were able to use with our old turntable several years ago to do exactly what you're doing. Bet your recordings turn out better than ours. Amazing about finding the turntable like what you donated to GW. Congrats on all your finds. That $5 credit might come in handy some day. I'm glad you were able to find the source of your loud bang. We more often have things fall off a shelf in the pantry than any place else. Couldn't have anything to do with how I have stuff stacked on the shelves . OMG on the fire ants, Becky! I hope you didn't get bitten. I hope you killed all of them because I have seen them floating together like a log on top of flood waters. The headache problem is an ongoing thing for almost 40 years. As a result, any time I go out of town I pack my own pillow. I even did that going out of the country. The shredded foam pillows that we got a couple of years ago have been the best we have ever had. I probably need to drop the company an email to get the to send me additional foam. My VS4 is sitting here in the box. I will get it out as soon as I finish this post. Hope I can get it ready to go for bedtime tonight. We have a lot of close wildlife here but usually not on the front porch. I did see a grandpa turkey wandering across the front yard about 20 feet from the porch an hour or so before the coyote incident. Another recall: Hummus Recall. Fortunately, none of the "major" brands like Sabra or Tribe, but that's a lot of hummus to recall. My favorite brand, Roots, is a small batch company from Asheville so not involved.

We cross posted, Linda. The neighbors have a rather small dog that pretty much runs free (has even been over here on occasion). I don't think anything would mess with a 40 lb basset hound, but in addition to coyotes, we have a lot of birds of prey, so small pets require a watchful eye. We definitely need better control of drugs in this country. But since the drug companies are pretty much in charge, something would need to change. You had a cool day at only 108. What is a retention park?
Becky, my VS4 is set up. I think it weighs about half what the Fitbit does. I have it linked to my existing Garmin account and will see how it does for sleep tonight and the Nu-Step tomorrow.

Karen Unfortunately that is the way we found the fire ants.I got bit on my legs and one sore on my tummy had 3 little blisters.I was putting my night shirt on at the time and didn't know they were on the inside of it but found out quickly.Ouch that hurt believe me.Kenneth put some stuff on the mounds he found outside and I have been spraying with ant and roach spray. If your Garmin is like mine you will have to charge it first but that's with any activity tracker. As soon as it's charged just edit your app the way you want it and it should be ready to go for bedtime. It has gotten up to 100 at Camp Mabry 2 days in a row.We got up to 98 with a heat index of 110.Tomorrow they are predicting 100 but IMO there's not a lot of difference between 98 and 100 when it's so humid.

Becky, it's charged and in use. OUCH on the bites! I know how that feels. We have them around here as well. You're right about the effects of heat and humidity and how just a little is all it takes to feel different.

fire ants are awful! Terro bait stakes! In the house if you have ants, Terro gel on cardboard where they are seen or Borax laundry stuff with sugar and water...not terribly toxic, but will make dog sick so not where pets van get it. I have placed this on a part of kitchen counter where tiny ants show up every year..,and watch them come and go in a line for a couple days until they have brought it home and killed the nest.
