Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Rainy and dark this early morning. Looks like rain till late morning, very warm and humid.
Gareth, I am so sorry you can not take anything for a good night's sleep. Glad you got some sleep the other night, you were probably all worn out. Sometimes I wish I could quit taking my sleeping pill, as I know it is not good for me in the long run, but it helps me sleep, and of course they say if we don't get sleep THAT affects us in the long run too! We just can't win! You DO NOT look old enough to have a 50 year old!!! Did you see what is going around the net? That app you can use to see how you look, old? OMG! I sure don't need to do that!! HAHAHA!! All I have to do is look in the darned mirror! Celebrities have been showing the affects of what they would look like, and some of them are pretty scary!
Robin, I saw that on the national news last night, that basically the whole east coast, south east, and mid west are under the heat advisory. I sure hope we don't strain the power grids and they shut down!! That is weird about that woman, stopping to vent to a stranger!! I guess with WW program it is all about finding a way that works for the individual that works. The funny thing is, I say to whoever will listen, that I loved Points Plus, but the thing is, I never lost on it. So I guess I was not working the program the way it was supposed to be worked...in other words, cheating it did not work. Is your DH going to be gone long? Hope he had a safe flight!
Anngie, I have taken the attitude about the heat and humidity that we are all having right now, that after our horrible winter/spring, this is just a walk in the woods!!! Glad you flew thru the extraction. Sorry about your cold, I can relate, I have one, but it is mild. Hope your clears up quick! Congrats on the weight loss! You are doing it smart, you know it is the slow weight loss that stays away. I am sure your plan will work, as a veteran of WW, you know what is needed to loose, and it sounds like a smart plan.
Marsha, welcome back!!! Wow, about the heat in AZ!! How does your mother stand it, with going out, is her breathing affected? I would not be able to go out at all, in that heat. So our temps must seem chilly...lol!! No walking for you this morning, right? It has been thundering and lightening over here. Fun morning! I love storms, but just during the day.
Carol, oh boy, I would say it is hot at 90! But I don't live in Texas, and I think my brother in law has the same frame of mind as your DH. That is what I always liked about WW, we can eat anything. Lol, I would have hit that guy that smarted off to you, about not eating dessert! I am glad we do not have to measure chicken anymore. That was one of the reason's I bought a WW scale some years ago. Pizza is a hard one to figure out, but with that 2 ingredient dough going around WW, it is easier now.
Marsha, the head game was the biggest reason for me, for not doing the program. I am so happy that it finally clicked again. I have to admit, I really like the journal. I think it was well worth the $9.95. And I keep it with me at home. I do have my WW app up to date for when we are not home, so that helps too. I hope you can get back in the WW mood.
Hi Pinky! Lol, you busy little energizer bunny!!! Have a good time with your friend!!
I think I overdid yesterday at the Y, by last night I could not bend my knee, without killer pain. I ended up taking 2 tramadol's. It is sore this morning, so I am not going to the Y, I think it is telling me to rest it. I will ice it some, then have DH help with some stretching, to loosen it up. We meet my sibs at 1, for lunch. It will be grilled chicken for me, even tho I grilled chicken breasts on the stove top last night for our dinner. DH did not complain, yay! DH and I picked up a small cake at the store, and had the lady in the bakery write happy birthday everyone on it. I was surprised she could fit it all on there. So after lunch, everyone will come over here, for cake and coffee. My 2 brothers have not seen the apartment yet, so my sister had suggested we come here, instead of her condo, so they could see it. Tomorrow we baby sit at 3:30, with doing something with the kids for dinner too...hmmm....more chicken, lol!!!
Have a nice day....stay cool everyone!!

Hello all. As Karen said the weather is not pleasant. No walking this morning. I texted my buddy last night but she had watched the news and was aware we were getting storms so we didn't go. Sure enough, at 6:00 when I would have met her it was thundering. Tomorrow there are heat advisories and they have cancelled summer school. I've never seen them do that before. They are expecting a heat index of 110.
Boss usually golfs on Thursdays. I hope he doesn't cancel due to heat. I like those afternoons when he is not here.
DD left this morning for Minneapolis. She has a boyfriend there but she is traveling with her best friend who is a gay guy and they are staying at an air bnb. He has a friend there and apparently also his grandma, but of all 3 people nobody had room for the 2 of them. I'm ok with this. He's a really nice guy and he doesn't play games like all of her girlfriends have in the past. He seems much more trustworthy and I'm glad they are such good friends. Anyway, she will be home on Saturday. I'm glad she's doing something fun with her summer. I don't think it's supposed to be quite as hot in Minneapolis as it is here. Downside is we swapped cars and I don't care for her car. It is old and feels rough to drive. I don't recall it feeling like this when I drove it in Phoenix when it was my mother's car. As much as I really don't care for driving, this car is enough to keep me home from my errands!
I started Becoming. Just a few pages in but good so far. I can't help wondering, though, why she felt compelled to write a book. Usually they write books before running for office but I don't get the sense she wants to run for office.

Karen, I don't think we are having any more of a heat wave than anyone else is. For our area, when it is 90 degrees or above for 3 days straight they call it a heat wave. Honestly, it's summer. If it gets to 100, which happens once in a while, then it is really hot, but we do have to expect some days over 90 during the summer. I couldn't think of what you said about someone going off on me. I can only think about the bread stick comment. It wasn't a big deal, just when we were unpacking the lunch, she was passing around the little packs of bread sticks and she started to give me one and made the comment. I told her no, I could have whatever I wanted as long as I tracked it. That was back in the PP days. I did very well on that, of course when I weighed, measured, and tracked.
Sorry Karen that you over did it at the Y yesterday. I agree with you about the sleeping pills. It's kind of a Catch 22. You don't want to get addicted to them, but if you don't take them you can't sleep. Sounds like you needed that sleep for the busy day you will have today. Enjoy your lunch, and your guests. Good that your DH ate that chicken cutlet. Maybe figure out some things he might like with it that you can make easily. There is a skinnytaste recipe for chicken parmesan that maybe he would like.
DH got to Boston fine, actually quite early, as it was mid afternoon and they took off a few minutes early. It is one of those flights where about as soon as you reach cruising altitude they start their decent, so they don't even do any beverage service. He is leaving very early Saturday morning because he thought we were going to our friends house earlier than we are. He made the reservation without asking because he remembered that one year we went out there early when there was an Art Fair so we could spend the afternoon there.
It is pouring rain here now, and I have the sprinkler people coming to my DM's house today to fix her system, not sure what they are going to do.

Marsha, we were posting at the same time. With Becoming, maybe she felt that writing the book would clear the air some about the way some people think of her. I know many who even supported her husband for some reason say they didn't like her.
Glad that your DD is doing something fun.

Rained here this morning too. It really poured for awhile just after I got to work. Glad it waited until after I got to work. Quit raining shortly after getting home from work. Yesterday shortly after getting to work it got so dark and then it really poured then too and rained until mid afternoon. The sun is out so it'll be steaming up here.
Karen, I'm lucky that my DH loves chicken though we rarely have it more than once a week if even that. DH is so easy to cook for. I think he's just happy when I decide to cook since I don't do all that much cooking anymore. I usually always cook on Sundays. We've gotten in the habit that on Tuesdays before going to work I either make scrambled eggs for lunch or bacon, egg and cheese on an English muffin. That's about the extent of my cooking. The rest of the week is leftovers from Sunday or maybe a frozen dinner.
Almost finished with The Pact. Then I'm starting An Anonymous Girl. Didn't someone here recommend it? I can't remember who. Back to work again later.

Just waiting for the storms to roll in. Heavy rain is one thing, strong winds are another.
The bridal shower for my friends’ daughter is this Saturday. If you remember, I mentioned awhile ago that two of us were invited to the wedding and two of us were not. Well, I’ve decided I just might as well bring it up and get this out in the open. The one uninvited will see us carpool to the shower and undoubtedly ask. I’m just trying to think of a kind way of saying it.
Karen, no app for me either! I don’t even WANT to know how I’ll look at 90! lol
Marsha, glad, too, that DD is having some fun time. I always loved it when the boss was away!
Robin, let’s hope the sprinkler people don’t over-charge!
Gareth, when you cook on Sundays is it for the week or just a day or two?
I’m reading Christmas at Tiffany’s (not a Christmas book, though). It’s present day and about a newly divorced lady living in NYC, Paris and then London. We’ll see.

The sprinkler people are done, everything fixed, and not that it was cheap, but was a lot less than I thought it would be for what they had to do. The control box was fine, there was a broken valve, and a few other broken things.
Anngie, are you so sure that they will see you carpooling? I only invited 2 of my mah jongg friends to my DS's wedding, then also to the shower, and we just don't talk about it.
Gareth, I read An Anonymous Girl, so definitely could have been on a list I gave you. I don't cook that often either, but try as much as I can. We go through phases though, sometimes I cook more, sometimes less. Although I do have to make what DS likes, he will eat anything I make, he likes my cooking.

Anngie, I just cook a meal for Sunday. Usually there's leftovers for another meal or two depending on what I make. Personally I don't think I'd bring it up about the invitation. You had no control over who was invited or not.
Robin, thought maybe it was you that recommended An Anonymous Girl.
