Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Today is our weather aware day. High temps, and high humidity. Could end up feeling outside like 105,110. This, or temp of 30 below with a wind chill of 60 below....yeah....I will take today!!
Marsha, did you boss go golfing? Most golfers go, no mater how hot, it seems it is the lightening that gets them off the course. Hope your DD has a good time. My DD1 had a very close friend who was gay also. They seem to be the best girl friends! I had one when I worked at the hospital lab, I just loved him. I am sorry if I just missed it, but who is the author of Becoming? By the way, we had lunch at The Rite Place yesterday, and with that being the first time in ages since we have been out there we were shocked at how high the East River is!!! Wow!! That river does not need any more rain!
Robin, the heat wave is what the news media is calling it. You know the news media, everything has to have a name. I agree with you, it is summer, pure and simple. I know I am addicted to sleeping pills. I would hate to try to sleep without them. So you have a couple quiet days home alone.....I am jealous!! My DH went fishing this morning, for just the morning, too bad I can't enjoy it, but it is off to the Y in a couple hours.
Gareth, our skies right now look like it could rain but nothing on radar, so if I were back into walking, I would hesitate. Are you going to walk outside today, in this high heat/humidity? Good luck, if you do. Yeah, I guess I make chicken too much. I have to really search the WW app for a more varied weekly menu. Had chicken again yesterday, it was really good, so that was 2 days in a row for me, I don't know what today will bring, and I don't like that feeling, plus I like to fill in my journal in the morning, with what I will eat for the day. I did print a recipe off from WW for egg and bacon sliders. Maybe we will have that Saturday or Sunday.
Anngie, I agree with everyone else, don't say anything. It is not your place to have to explain. It was funny seeing celebrities looking so old, but all I have to do is look in a mirror, lol!! How is Hospice work going?
Very warm already, at 79 and humid. For 6:30 in the morning, that is very warm. I still turned off the living room a/c, as it gets too cold, just sitting here on my laptop. Going to the Y soon, to get that done before it is blazing hot. Then off to a town a few miles away for my shingles shot. It seems that small town pharmacy gets the shots in before other pharmacy's. Then babysitting at 3:30 till sometime in the evening. Temps should go down to the 80's all weekend.
Have a super day everyone, please stay cool!

Computer weirdness yesterday so I didn't get to post. DH did something after he got home from work last night and it has been working okay so far.
Very hot and humid here. It's oppressive. I starting sweating just putting my groceries in the car. It is supposed to like this until Monday when it should rain and be a little cooler.
I read Becoming and liked it. I really didn't have feelings about Michelle Obama one way or the other. I appreciate how she has been gracious toward George and Laura Bush. She disagrees with decisions Bush made as president but she doesn't say he is a bad person and they all seem to get along. It is refreshing since the present administration doesn't seem to understand this type of kindness.
I cook several times a week. We eat a lot of chicken. Sometimes I just bake the chicken breasts or use them in stir-fry or pasta dishes or soup. If there are leftovers, I have them at lunch. I seem to use the same recipes, but sometimes I'll try something new and add it to the rotation. We usually go out on Friday evenings and Sunday after church. I get tired of being the one who does all the cooking. There are some evenings when DH has a meeting or is out of town and I love not having to come up with something.
I had a close friend in college, but he wasn't gay. We had grown up together and he would give me rides home. Sometimes it was like "if you're not doing anything else, why don't we go to this movie together" type thing. I had a hard time adjusting my first semester and he was very helpful. He later dated a good friend of mine and it did get awkward because they broke up, got back together and then broke up for good. As much as I liked her, I think the woman my friend married was so much better for him.
Anngie, don't explain. You should not have to justify why you were invited. If they are upset, they should talk to the MOB or MOG (I can't remember which one it is).
Tomorrow DH and I are going to DD's to babysit DGS. Looking forward to it.

I made lentil curry for dinner last night in the IP. I have made it before and enjoyed it but I think I bought the wrong coconut milk this time and it was awful! to the point where I wouldn't eat it. It was sweet, and it shouldn't be sweet.
Karen - Becoming is Michele Obama's book. The East River has been over it's path under the Hoffman overpass most of the summer. My boss did golf yesterday. He said since the sun never came out it wasn't that bad.
Rocket Man is at the cheap theater this weekend so we hope to see that. I saw that Avengers Endgame and Yesterday are both "coming soon" so I will watch for those.
No plans for this weekend. We thought we were taking ds and gf to brunch for ds' birthday on Saturday but apparently they have a vet appointment. We've been upstaged by the cats. I am annoyed at this but I am keeping my mouth shut as complaining to him gets me nowhere. I did tell him to find a date and put us on his calendar, he is busy through August. WE are supposed to have lunch next week but that is a quick 1/2 hour when we are on our lunch hours from work and hardly what I would consider a birthday event.

It was hot and humid walking early this morning. It was already in the 80's I'd thought of cutting my walk short but I ended up doing the full route. I was dripping wet by time I got back home. Today is supposed to be the hottest day so far of the year. Cooling off by the first of the week and not so humid. It was my usual Fri morning day off routine. Laundry and doing a little cleaning downstairs. Now it's time for a break before moving on to something else. DH's boss yesterday gave him a card thanking him for all he does and telling him how much he appreciates him. What shocked DH was to also find a $100 bill enclosed. Nice to be appreciated at your job. DH back to working PT has been really good for him. At least it took his focus off his health so much.
Karen, did you get rain? Do you feel like your knee is making any improvement? I'll be anxious to hear your review on the egg and bacon sliders. I'll have to look that recipe up.
Marsha, I love lentils but not anything curry. I'm wondering if your coconut milk was sweetened. I've never used coconut milk so don't even know if it comes sweetened or not. Previews to Rocket Man look really good. I've always been an Elton John fan.
Carol, seems like everyone is dealing with heat. How did we ever survive without AC?! Have fun with DGS! Like I even have to tell you that!..haha
Anngie, how's your mouth doing where your tooth was pulled?
Pinky, I'm sure you're busy as usual.
Robin, I started The Anonymous Girl this morning. Got into it right away which I'm always glad when that happens.

Growing up we had an attic fan. Of course with that you had to keep your windows open all the time and at night, my mom was afraid of someone trying to break in. Eventually, we got a window air conditioner that cooled the living room and kitchen. I think later we got one for the bedrooms. I went to a camp in the summers and the cabins had no electricity. I remember when I first started getting migraines, I got one at camp that lasted several days. I'm sure it was because of the heat and humidity. I remember they would push us to take salt tablets. Also, our cars weren't air conditioned. I don't want to go back to the good ole days.
Gareth, nice for your DH's work to be noticed and great for the bonus. It's always nice for someone to notice when you're doing well. So many times you never hear when you're doing a good job, only when you make a mistake.
I'm still reading The Astronauts Wives Club. It is interesting.

So far we are only up to 84 today, and it is already 1:15, so I really don't think it will go to 90, or even 88, they are actually saying now only 86, so I am hoping that the same thing will happen tomorrow, that we won't get to 95. We had an attic fan when I was young, but one year I came home from sleep away camp and we had central air. I am not sure how old I was. I know that there are plenty of people who live without AC now, but then again we can't imagine that there are people, and children, who don't have food to eat either.
Karen, maybe it would have been worth it to stay home from the Y just to be by yourself in the apartment. Was it yesterday you had the family celebration?
Gareth, glad you are enjoying An Anonymous Girl. I liked that one all the way through too. That was great for your DH to get that extra from his boss. Always nice to feel appreciated.
Marsha, sorry that your DS didn't want to make plans. I know it's hard to coordinate everyone's schedule, but he should still make time to celebrate his birthday with you. I will say though, last year when my older DS wanted to go out with us for dinner on his actual birthday, I was shocked. Of course he wanted us to take him to a rather expensive steakhouse, one that my DH doesn't particularly like, so it was an excuse to get DH to go.
Carol, good thing that your DH was able to fix the computer issue. It is so frustrating sometimes that we have learned to rely on our computers and don't know what to do without them.
I try to mix things up when I cook so it is not chicken all the time. I will do shrimp, sometimes fish, but also will use low fat ground beef, veal, and other things that change things up a bit but still are not heavy on points. Karen, maybe try looking for recipes on the Skinnytaste website. There are WW points on that too.
I was so hooked on The Captain's Daughter, which I just started reading on Wednesday, that I finished it this morning. Not sure why I liked it so much, but I did, and it was not a thriller. I guess you would call it Women's Fiction, because it was not a romance. I am starting Queen Bee now.

Just a quick hi again today---sorry I am not taking time for personals again today. Not sure why these last several days have been so crazy but they have been. Just things happened that are out of my normal routine I guess and then get thrown off balance. Been thinking of you all and yes we have a hot humid day here again as well. Looking forward to tomorrow's cooler and less humid forecast.
Heading to the neighboring town with DMIL for the first Farmers Market of the season shortly. I CANNOT hardly wait for some good fresh veggies. I hope to stop back here later!

Our heat index is over 100 now and it’s unbearable out. Tuesday is supposed to be back to the low 80’s with no humidity. However, I’m not wishing the weekend away!
No, I don’t plan on bringing the subject up but since the one un-invite lives across the street she (or DH) will probably see the other “invitee” pick me up tomorrow to go to the shower. She’ll ask. Well, I’m so over this it no longer matters what anyone thinks! lol. It is what it is!
Karen, yes, Hospice is going well. I visit four people in nursing homes at this time. I stay anywhere from a half hour to a couple of hours - just depends.
Gareth, the extraction went well and I’ve had no problems whatsoever. My complaint is the summer cold I have! All I do is cough! Just picked up cough med. (pills) that have worked in the past.
Hello to Robin, Carol & Marsha!
