Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Cloudy this morning, after what the weathermen were calling a dangerous thunderstorm came thru here last night. I think our little area is one of the few that did not loose power. It was a very scary night, with high winds, torrential rains, and constant lightening, which all lasted well over an hour. The damage from this storm is widespread, and it looks like a lot of wind damage, but not too bad, mostly trees, but some trees on cars, and some on houses. Some storms predicted for today, but I don't think they will be as powerful as last night.
Carol, yay to your DH! Nice that you have one that can figure computer craziness out. Here it is usually the other way around. Our weather yesterday was oppressive also. You could not be outside long, just no air to breathe. Glad to hear someone on here cooks quite a bit, AND cooks a lot of chicken, lol!! I agree about being the only cook, except when we lived at the house, DH was good about cooking on the grill. Here, with us being in an upper, it is just harder to cook on the grill. I would never want to go back to the days we were kids, and yes, there was no such thing as a/c, eventually my parents got a window unit for their bedroom, for my dad to sleep comfortably, what with him working swing shifts at the paper mill. A/c in a car was heaven to get, once we could afford it. Have a nice day today, babysitting.
Marsha, sorry, no help about the coconut milk, I have a daughter who is very well educated about those kinds of milk, but not me. Ok, I remember the talk about The Becoming, now, thank you. When I saw the East river, it just struct me as shocking, as I would have assumed that by now, (until last night!) it would have gone down, as I read a WDNR report a few days ago that around the state, most of the rivers have finally gone down, from the winter and spring overload.
Gareth, oh my....I remember those days, back a few years ago walking in that humidity, and being soaking wet when I got home, the only thing I did was drink some water and get right into the shower. How super nice of your DH boss!! Boy, that really tells you what kind of a person you are married to! Congrats to him! I don't know when I will get to make the egg and bacon sliders, as last night, tonight and tomorrow we are eating away from home. They are 5 points for 1 slider. I do feel the knee is getting better, that is why I get so mad when it acts up so much, because there are times that I see great improvement. Our grand kids were shocked to see me yesterday, without a cane, lol!!
Robin, I would have loved to stay home yesterday morning, but since I had some errands to run, it just made sense to start it all with a trip to the Y. I have been doing good going there, getting into a habit, so I don't want to stop. I will go again today, then take tomorrow off. Yes, we had the sibling lunch, but my sister and I were disappointed (and somewhat mad) that one of our two brothers at the last minute decided his part time job was more important than out get together, after he assured us he could work around it, and be there. Otherwise we had a very nice time. The big thing going on around here is clothing and purse drives for women that are getting rescued from being sex slaves, once they are rescued, they need so much personal stuff it is so sad. I planned on donating a purse, but after I dug it out of my closet, I could not get some stains off of it, with it being white, it did not look good. So I just threw it away, was not decent enough to donate. My heart goes out to those women, just as the kids who do not have food, as you mentioned.
Pinky, I hope your life calms down soon, I do not know how you keep up! Have a great time at the Farmers Market!
Anngie, we had that kind of temps yesterday.....horrible!!! But I must say, excluding the whopper storm we had last night, I will take that heat any day, over that winter/spring that it seems like we just got over. People have been taking survey's on FB about what people would prefer, that heat or the winter bitter cold. Basically it was evenly divided. My summer cold is hanging on too, but it is not getting bad, thank goodness.
DH and I took the 2 grand kids (the 2 we babysit a lot) to Margaritas to celebrate DH birthday. The kids were surprised when we came and told them what we were going to do, as that restaurant is their favorite. If you tell them (the wait staff) someone in your group has a birthday, at the end of the meal, they bring a birthday fried ice cream, for the birthday boy or girl, put a big sombrero on that person, and all the wait staff sing happy birthday in spanish. So fun, the kids love it. Of course I ate a fried ice cream. Did not stay within my daily points goal so no blue dot for me...my first one I missed in weeks!
We were watching the huge storm coming our way, on DD TV, while they were still out to eat, and I finally messaged her that with the weather coming, when were they coming home, so we could get home before it got here. They were on their way home by then, so we made it home about 20 minutes before the high winds and rain hit. Whew!
Y this morning, then we are running to WM, then later this afternoon we are meeting DD1 and her family at a newer Brewhouse/grill, for another birthday dinner. I told DH the only thing I can eat there will be a simple salad, lol!!! Just kidding, will probably stick with a grilled chicken. I had a grilled chicken sandwich at Margarita's last night, it was good, I ended up not eating the bun, but the breast was huge!
I am sorry, I really went on and on didn't I? Have a great day everyone.

Karen, I did see about that horrible storm for you when I was looking at the weather here, the major story on the weather page was that. Good that you did not lose power, and that you didn't have to be driving during it.
We are going to be under what they call a heat dome, although they lowered the top temp to 94 from 97. It is already 84 now, and humid. Lots of events planned for outdoors have been cancelled. A big event in Central Park, the NYC Triathalon, and a lot of outdoor concerts and events here on Long Island. There was supposed to be a small Woodstock tribute in our local town garden, but they moved it to a high school auditorium and had an automated call go out last night to announce it. My big decision is what I am going to wear to go to our friend's house. I don't know if they are going to have us sitting outside at all. It is supposed to be 4 degrees cooler there than here. I don't normally wear shorts, but could do that, or I have a dress, it's casual, but seeing as I am not a sun dress person, it's got loose sleeves.
I started reading Queen Bee. Not loving it yet, but have nothing else. I am 25% through, and someone else said that she didn't really get into it until about half way.

Feels good to finally sit awhile. I've been on the go since 5:00 this morning. Busy at work. Didn't walk after work. It was already 80ยบ when I got up at 5:00 If I could've walked then I would've but not by time I got home from work after 9:00 Had breakfast and then we went to HyVee. After getting home I walked my downstairs track.
Karen, scary weather you had last night and again this morning from what I saw on FB about being locked in at WM when the store closed because of a tornado alert. Been watching to see followup if it touched down. Hope both you and Marsha are safe.

Good morning.
A beautiful day predicted for our weather today. High of 81, no humidity....yay!
Robin, I have heard of heat domes. Good thing your high was readjusted to 94, from 97. It seems even tho that is just 3 degrees, the closer you get to 100, it just seems hotter. What did your high temp actually get to? Queen Bee....lol...that's not a book about Beyonce is it? I can not believe what a pedestal she is put on, and her following! I think she is a nothing singer.
Gareth, will you be able to walk outside today? I hope you have our weather!! Our week even looks good, till Friday, then the humidity is supposed to return.
Ok, my eating has gotten out of hand! Thursday, Friday and yesterday was dinner out to eat. Today we go to DD2 house for a BBQ. Thank goodness there is nothing on the calendar eating related till Aug 3rd for a wedding.
Yesterday was very interesting, as we ran to Walmart, thinking the big storm would hit maybe right when we got back from the store, but as DH was looking for cargo shorts, and DH being such a putz, we were in the store when a tornado warning hit. The store called a code black, and all the employees gathered up all the customers and brought us back to their back room, where the photo center is. Between that room and their employee break room, that is where we all went. As I said on FB, you all know how I hate WM, but they went above and beyond to take care of us. They got bottled water for everyone, and food, such as tangerines, cookies, bite size candy bars, stuff like that. We were back there till the tornado warning lifted, which was aprox and hour. Walmart employees really stepped up to take care of the customers. Guess I will have to readjust my opinion of that store. While the tornado warning was issued, the store closed. One of my friends told me on FB that she was locked up at Aldi's. So it sounds like all the stores do that. I know the grocery store I worked at, had to do that for a dangerous store 2 years ago. A couple of my deck decorations blew off, found them right in the ditch where the corn field starts, next to our building. The field of corn is bent way over, you can see how a straight line wind blew right into the field, in front of our building. I have to say, I felt safe at Walmart, with the high winds, I don't know if I would have felt safe up here, on the 2nd story of our building. There are so many people, scattered all over our area, with out power. We did not loose it thankfully. So many trees down too, on houses, cars, out in the streets, amazing. The energy companies are saying it could be days before people get their power back.
Since the morning is so beautiful, and DH reminded me he has a nice walking stick, I am thinking of taking a walk in a little while.
Have a nice day everyone.

Karen, must have been scary with that tornado warning, sounds like they handled things well though. Did you have to stand the whole time or were there places to sit. It must have been interesting, people sometimes start to chat with each other and that can be fun.
Queen Bee is definitely not about Beyonce. She is a good performer, although I have never seen her, but obviously we all have different tastes in music so I am not going to judge anyone.
We had a nice night out with our friends yesterday. They had us all inside. I was having bouts of vertigo yesterday, which was not fun. I think my stuffed head from the weather and atmosphere didn't help, because when I took a sudafed I was better. Still was off and on, but I took meclazine too. I drove home, and there were a lot of cars, not traffic, we made it home quite quickly, but it seemed that everyone must have taken a day trip to the Hamptons. Coming back from the airport yesterday there was a lot of traffic in spots. Most I saw when I was going to pick up DH, so I took a different route home, but the beaches must have been loaded. I know even 2 weeks ago when it was hot they stopped letting people in to some of the beaches.
Another hot one today, then we are supposed to cool down. I have to go do some food shopping. Have to figure out dinner too.

Beautiful morning here for a change. 68ยบ when I walked. Sounds like beautiful weather for the upcoming week. Yesterday there were storms all around us. Lot of storm damage only about 20 miles away. It got dark here and the wind briefly picked up with a little thunder but we never did get any rain.
Karen, I saw on FB that you did get out for a walk. Good for you! Slowly but surely you're getting your life back. Sometimes with our eating we just have to do the best we can. Life happens. Progress not perfection! Just because you fall off the wagon don't let it run over you too!
Robin, I'm really enjoying An Anonymous Girl. I have some ideas but I really don't know where the story is going. I love a book that keeps me guessing especially if there's a twist thrown in.
Time to go do some cooking. First up is baked oatmeal that I haven't made in some time. I always make a double batch since DH likes it too and I like to freeze some too in individual baggies. Still debating on what will be our main meal for the day. It's between three different choices which I have all the ingredients for. I'm leaning towards Mexican Lasagna a new recipe I found that sounds so good. Simple too. My kind of recipe!

Robin, I am happy I have you to rein me in. Your description of music, and being very diplomatic is just what I needed. I don't like when someone picks on some of the country singers I like, I should not have said anything about Beyonce. About being holed up in the back area of Walmart, and chairs: they brought out chairs for people, but of course there were more people than chairs, and the bench type of chair we grabbed when we went in there was large enough for 3 slim people. My DH was sitting next to me, and 2 women came in, 1 with a cane. The other woman asked DH if the woman with the cane could sit at the end. Of course DH gave her his seat area. This woman with the cane and I were talking, as I told her I could relate her getting around with a cane, she told me that most likely she will go to a walker next, as she has MS. I told her that I was sorry. She looked at me and said I looked familiar....wanted to know if I went to West High School, and I told her yes. Well come to find out, we were in the same graduating class. Honest to goodness, I did not recognize her at all. She knew who I was, when she asked my maiden name. It is nice to know that over the years I have kept somewhat of my looks from those years. This has happened before, when someone talked to me, and I had no idea of who they were, could not recognize them after all these years.
Gareth, did you walk real early? Just wondering, since you said it was 68. By the time I got out there, it had to be in the mid 70's. But mind you, I am not complaining!! Lol!!! This is the most perfect day, weather wise, after the most horrible day yesterday. I ran to the store this noon, and was so sad seeing all the tree damage. I guess in town, (Green Bay) there are so many trees down, along with so many power lines down, that it may take all week to get back to normal. I can not believe how lucky we were out here. All I had to do was chase down my balcony decorations, no big deal. Is the mexican lasagna a WW recipe? I am so mad at myself, we just spent 3 days going out to eat....we were supposed to go to DD2 house tonight for a BBQ, then our elderly friends lost their power yesterday, and DH went up there to help them this morning, long story short, they were going to come stay here till they got their power back. So DD and I rescheduled the dinner till next Sunday. Then our friends power came back, so they did not have to come stay here. She felt bad that we were not going to our BBQ, but I told her I am happy not to go, since our eating has been off the charts.

Karen, don't think I am a Beyonce lover or anything, but I like some of her songs. As you probably know, I am not one who listens to country music, but I would listen to anything that is not heavy metal, but I know you love it. I am not quite sure why she and Jay Z have become a major power couple, but they both are involved in a lot of different things. I am guessing that the woman with the cane, not surprised you connected like that with someone, though their was nothing wrong with your DH, and he could stand. Same for you really, did someone know you couldn't really stand that long because of your knees? Actually, people who have MS sometimes have it hidden well too.
It is funny when we run into someone we know and don't recognize them at all. I ran into someone this morning, coincidentally we were talking about her last night because she is a friend of a friend. I could not believe how much she aged in the past few years.
