Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning, Another great morning here. We did get rain a few hours ago, but clear now. Looks like great walking weather. They are talking about the weekend being a typical July again.....
Robin, we know first hand how stubborn elderly people can be! The couple we are very close to should have sold their house 10 years ago, but she refuses to leave. He is 92, and is starting to get a little unstable mentally wise. If he has to go into assisted living, she would not be able to live in that beautiful, huge house by herself. Their 3 kids try and try to get them to pack up and move, but she has her heels dug in. I did not use the walking stick yesterday, felt I did not need it. I was able to walk 1 mile, and lol, was so excited about it. Funny but when I was at the height of walking a couple years ago, I would have laughed at being excited about 1 mile. I remember that, about vertigo, no warning. It was so strange, but mine was just when I was laying in bed reading, and would move to a different position in bed, so I was lucky. I can't imagine coping with that during the day!
Gareth, yes, the cooler weather is SO nice!!! My weather bug says it is 68, I slept in a bit, so I won't be getting out any time soon. So is the Mexican lasagna a WW recipe? Have a good day off!
Anngie, thanks. I did not use the walking stick yesterday, wanted to try it without it and it worked out. Your weekend sounds so nice!! I am just itching to get up to Minocqua, would love to pack up and go for a couple days, as we were not able to go up last year, with getting the house ready to sell, I don't think I can wait till the end of September, when we are booked at the hotel.
Marsha, were you at Kwik Trip when the storm came? I am surprised they let you leave, they should have had a plan to take care of their customers. One of neighbors told me yesterday that they were at Woodman's when it came on Saturday, and they high tailed it home, and there was flooding (probably ponding) on all the roads coming back here, but he said Woodman's did not close and have the customers go to a safe place in the store. Smart of your DD to stay there. I thought of pulling out my year book, but LOL!!! I can't remember where it is, since we moved!! I lost my rolling pin in the move, so anything is possible. You will be fine driving, I wish I could help you, I love driving. You wouldn't be taking Highway 41 down there?
Carol, glad you are all better. I am surprised your sleeping pill did not help. All of our coffee here at the apartment is 50/50 coffee, half regular and half decaf. We even have 1 cup around 2pm everyday. Of course we stay up till around 11 pm or so, DH usually a little later. Seems I can have a good day on 6 hours sleep now. At least you had a good time baby sitting. When our local highway was going thru major construction for a few years, I found streets and roads to use to avoid that mess, and now, a few years after the construction is done, I still use those routes. But to go further, I do not hesitate to use the highways.
Yesterday was an excellent day except for 1 thing. I did get the 1 mile walk in. Then I went shopping for a dress for a wedding we have in 2 weeks. First went to Gordman's. Nothing there, but I did find a nice pair of workout capri's. So I went to Kohl's. I remember back years ago that they had lots of dresses....I could hardly find any yesterday. I was getting frustrated, but came upon 1 rack of them. My issue with the summer dresses is most of them are sleeveless, which I refuse to wear, as my arms are now old lady arms, and have that huge flap of skin that wiggles, and looks awful. I found a nice purple dress, (with short sleeves), with a pretty white collar, which fit. With the material dress is, I also tried on and bought one of those spanx thing, that holds in your stomach and smooths your upper legs. Checked out, walked out the door and I heard the beeper go off, but thought nothing of it. Got home, went to hang the dress up and that thing was still on the dress (security tag). I could not get it off. So now I will have to run it over there to have them remove it. Grrr!! My big problem now is to figure out what shoes should go with the dress, it is just an A line dress, just covering the knees. With all the walking shopping, I ended up walking 2 miles total.
DH was told his glucose is a little high (just 123), so he has to start watching that. Also has to go to a derm doctor to check his scalp. Otherwise he made out pretty good.
Hair trim today, after walking. Have a good day everyone.

Karen, good for you doing all that walking, and without the walking stick. Yes, DH's sugar is slightly elevated, and surely he can bring it down just by watching. I would bet that with the poor appetite he had that he could have been overindulging on sweets and carbs, because they taste good.
We had a horrible rain storm yesterday. a little after 6 pm, just as I was starting dinner, but had not done more than starting to cut up some broccoli, there was a big clap of thunder and our power went out. It was out until 9 pm. The rain was so bad that I went out at 7:20 to go to temple, then was going to pick up something for dinner, but the neighborhood roads on both sides of me were just too flooded, I was afraid to chance it. I never saw that much water around. I waited until the rain let up a bit, and went out to get some pizza. The electric company was saying power would not be restored until today, but then miraculously at exactly 9 pm it went back on. I was so happy about that. Our kindles were charged up, so we were reading, and the house had not gotten that hot yet. I finished Queen Bee. It was OK, definitely not great, but the end went quickly, so that was good for last night. I started Searching for Sylvie Lee, which people recommended on a Facebook page I am on.

A beautiful morning here today---actually the second day in a row of bright sunshine and supposed to have that again tomorrow---hooray!!! We also had that horrible heat last Thursday and Friday with the humidity. We woke Sat. morning to a thunderstorm with some high winds but ended up with a another inch of rain. The little town 8 miles from us, where our high school is received higher winds with many branches and trees down. One tree had even fallen on an older ladies house. She is fine but here house needs some major repair. It is 63 degrees now and expecting a high 0f 76 today---just perfect with the lower humidity. So refreshing out.
Good to be back here--not sure what has happened that I got into such a busy spell this past week. Just strange stuff came up and a few other things, nothing worth telling about--I guess as they say life just got in the way. Saturday morning DH and I went for breakfast with friends in our little local town like we so often do. We got to talking to our dearest couple friends as we were leaving and decided to take a little road trip Sunday and Monday with them as my DH's birthday is today and our DF's(the man) birthday was yesterday so they thought a road trip was necessary to celebrate their birthdays. Had a great time and so nice to get away. DF(she) and I spent a lot of time enjoying pool. We arrived home just in time late afternoon yesterday to get changed and meet up with a couple that are good friends from Montana. They were in our area for just yesterday and wanted to meet up and eat out.
Karen---so glad you are getting out walking and are doing well with it as it sounds. WM really did treat you well during their storm going through, good to hear they have a plan in place for that.
Robin---Glad your power wasn't off any longer than it was.
I need to get to work in the office for a bit and then time to start mowing all over again.

What a difference a day makes. The rain has stopped - it rained all day yesterday - and should get to 80 today. Humidity back by the weekend.
Karen, you’ve come a long way with your walking, haven’t you! I’m so glad! Actually, I’ve never considered a walking stick to take the place of a cane! I think of it as “something to do” as a compliment to one’s stride. If you should continue your search for a dress, let me know where to look as I’ll be needing one for a wedding this fall. DH at some point, will also be making an apt. with a derm. Dr. for his scalp. My DBIL has been going for quite awhile now.
Robin, that must have been quite a storm! Luckily it wasn’t for too long - but long enough, I’m sure.
Marsha, I definitely agree with Robin and go to the brunch. Leave especially early if you need to, take your time, and you’ll get there! Most importantly you’ll BE there. We can do anything we set our minds too! No A.C. just a breeze and fans!
Carol, I’ll let you know about the book. I’m enjoying it.

Karen - we were at a shell station and we were outside at the pumps when when the tornado warnings started but it was before the storm. It wasn't even raining yet, actually was nice out. We had plenty of time to get home. We actually didn't go right into the basement, it was about 20 minutes before the storm hit and we went downstairs, meanwhile we were watching the coverage on the news and we knew exactly what time it would hit. I hate 41. I will take 32. When I mapped it there is no difference in time and I am much more comfortable off the highways. Besides with EAA 41 will be extra busy.
Robin - so glad the power was back on sooner than expected. How is the weather now? Has it cooled off?
Pinky - sounds like a lovely little getaway.
Anngie - we are having a birthday lunch with ds tomorrow. He's going to take a longer lunch so we can go somewhere nicer and actually sit down and eat instead of the quick subs we have had for lunch the other times we've met up with him. I'll tell him I'm thinking of coming down to the brunch on my own and see what he says. But dd will be able to come with tomorrow since she's not working so that will be our "official" family birthday celebration with him, we'll give him his gift then, although I won't be baking him his birthday brownies this year. Unless I bring them down to his brunch. But then I think gf will think I am stepping on her toes.
Dog walked this morning with my buddy. It was beautiful weather. We are still trying to find a good route. We had picked a new spot and the parking lot there was completely ripped up today so we had to adjust and ended up basically randomly walking in circles through neighborhoods.

Busy morning. Sitting here for awhile until my haircut appt. Work later this afternoon. Only 58Âş when I walked this morning. I was a little chilly starting out but with the sun out it was warming up. 78Âş is today's predicted high. Heat and humidity come back this weekend. Yes, the Mexican lasagna is a WW recipe as is all my recipes or if they're not I make them WW. Ground beef (the recipe called for ground turkey) refried beans layered with uncooked lasagna noodles and topped with salsa and water. When it comes out of the oven it's covered with plain ff Greek yogurt, cheese and ripe olives.
Karen, I don't wear sleeveless either and not just because of how my arms look but I get cold in AC. I usually always wear 3/4 length sleeves unless I'm home. You could've always worn a sleeveless dress with a lightweight sweater or a wrap. I reuse to wear spanx. I've got to be comfortable. WM didn't try and stop me from leaving once when a bad storm was approaching and they were herding everyone to a backroom. I don't think they can make you if you choose not to.
Marsha, I'm the same as you that I don't like to drive long distances anymore. I don't even like driving across town if I can avoid it.
Robin, glad your power wasn't off any longer than it was. You really appreciate electricity when you're without it.

I don't care for sleeveless either but before my trip to AZ I did go buy 2 sleeveless tops and I was glad to have them - lightweight, loose, sleeveless blouse type things that were way more comfortable than my normal short sleeve t shirts.
Gareth - I avoid driving also. I don't know how I got this way but its the way I am. my family thinks I'm nuts and I tell them everyone is entitled to one psychosis and this is mine. I am even nervous in the passenger seat. I am happy on a bus (or train, but we don't have trains here). Or if I have to be in the car I prefer the back seat.

Pinky, your weather sounds great. It is a little cooler here today.
Karen, I have a couple of sleeveless dresses from Kohls. I'm not crazy about sleeveless, but I always wear them with a light sweater. I only wear dresses to weddings and church and those places always are too cool for me. I've had people tell me I couldn't possibly be cold. Well, yeah, why would I make something like that up? I also take sweaters to restaurants & doctor offices. One woman at church had crocheted shawls in every color and brings one every service.
It may have been caffeine that kept me up both nights. Friday night I had taken my headache meds and they have caffeine. At DD's I had 2 cokes, 1 was with dinner which was later than usual.
