Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Nice morning, 60 right now, warmer later.
Gareth, I can feel the humidity already, not bad, but it is there, so I will probably go to the Y to work out. Got the recipe, and printed it, thank you! It says it feeds 9, do you split it up and freeze some of it? I have thought that maybe I am over doing, but just 1 mile is over doing? I have lost my patience with this, so I am just going to keep doing what I can and will have to live with the pain the rest of the day.
Pinky, your way of eating out sounds like a good plan. A lot of restaurants have pretty decent menus to be able to eat healthy. How has the growing season been, now that we are well into summer? It looks like the corn fields here are around a few weeks behind in growing, which is not too bad, is it? When I went up by the old house Tuesday, to get my hair trim, I did see a few fields up there that normally have something growing, (they rotate what they grow), but those fields are sitting with nothing growing.
Marsha, I am sorry...I thought I read you said that DD was able to go with you, but that is beside the point. The point is, you DO NOT have to do that driving now!!! Yay to you!! Did you see on FB last night all the craziness going on around town? That dock floating down the Fox was unreal!!! Then the fire dept had to go rescue it so it didn't hit that Tall Ship that arrived yesterday!!! Then the flooding! This has got to go in the record books as the weirdest year for weather in GB!
Carol, about that story on Valery Harper, they had a fund raiser going for her, then they closed it down, as a bunch of celebrities stepped forward to donate a lot of money for her. You think one of them would have talked to her DH about how Hospice really works. Or her doctor. It is just a really weird story. The thing with restaurants around our town, there are a lot of small family restaurants, so there is no way to get nutrition info. I think WW does have a restaurant app, but you have to pay for it. (The last time I looked it was not free) Thank you....I was warned by the doctor and nurse that I would have pain for at least a year, I guess this is what they were talking about.
Robin, walking in the evening is not going to happen. I am too worn out to do that then. Even late afternoon would not work. I am a morning person, so that is when I feel like doing it. I might have to start taking 1/2 of a tramadol. I have gotten away from icing, so I guess I should be doing that. You are right....Marsha is probably the only one that knows what you are talking about. Your religion sounds very complicated. There is a lot going on at the old church we used to go to, with a lot of the members really mad at the Pastor. Members of the council want my DH and I to call the SYNOD office and tell them our story about why we left the church. They hope if enough of the members that left speak out, somehow they can oust the Pastor, with the help from the regional office. We are still discussing whether we will call or not, really it is not our circus anymore.
DH had his cardiologist apt yesterday. He has to have 2 stents put in, one in his leg, the other in his heart. He is a pro at this so I am not worried. He should hear today or tomorrow when that will be scheduled, most likely next week.
Today, after I come home from the Y, we are going to the cemetery to check if they got our headstone on our plot yet, plus check his father's succulent plant, hopefully it has survived last weekend!! I am hoping to get that dress over to Kohl's tomorrow, then look for shoes to go with it.
Have a nice day everyone.

Light rain this morning which isn't amounting to anything(Thank God) but gloomy out and a cool breeze. Should get to 80 today and I can feel the humidity is on its way back.
Karen--Our crops are coming along quite well but I agree they are a couple of weeks behind. We do however have one field of corn that has started tasseling so that is a good sign. Many fields in our area that are not planted as well--things just do not really like nice like they usually do. I feel bad your DH has more stuff to go through.
I need to go, busy with some stuff in the office and DH just came back in so have a few questions for him.

After lunch out with ds yesterday (fish tacos) I did not eat dinner - I had a bit of peanut butter when I got home and told dh and dd dinner was leftovers. Nobody appeared to eat so I didn't bother either. before bed I had a hard boiled egg. Those leftovers are still in the fridge so I guess that they will be dinner tonight (jokes on dh and dd). DD and I went through all of the accumulated kitchen things she has for school and recorded what is there. Quite a big assortment of stuff - dishes, mugs, frying pans, hot pads, a lot of knives, etc.. I think if she brings all that then she will have contributed her share to the apartment, but the stuff that came from ds has to all be washed. It does not look terribly clean to dd and I.
Walked this morning. Beautiful morning, a little cool and a little humid. I was too warm with my windbreaker. We still need to find a new route, today we were about 5 minutes short of what we want.
Karen - sorry to hear dh needs more surgery but since you don't sound worried I won't worry either. I just watched a video of Uniliya - looks awful there. The WW ap has restaurants but of course they are the major chains.
DH has to be at the Tall Ships festival this afternoon so I don't know when he will be around between now and Sunday. He should give me a schedule but lately I have to drag that information out of him (a hint as to why I was so angry the other day). I won't mind the peace. I'll do a bit of reading and watch some more Stranger Things. DD is working 1/2 of someone's shift today then she is working tomorrow Saturday and Sunday so it will be mostly just me and the dog. I may go down to the Tall Ships festival on Friday night to watch the fireworks. DH has a parking pass because he is a volunteer so he may come pick me up so I don't have to figure out where to leave the car.

Pinky - we were posting at the same time. I think food prices will be very high this fall and winter after the summer we have been having.

Another beautiful, sunny day here before the heat and humidity come back again this weekend. Home from work and just had breakfast. Dishwasher is running now. I don't plan on doing a whole lot of anything else besides unloading the dishwasher before going back to work again later. I'm enjoying listening to We Hope For Better Things. I'll be ready for a thriller again after I finish it.
Karen, I hope you like that recipe as much as we did. I made it into 8 servings and ran it through the recipe builder which I had to anyway since I was using ground beef instead of ground turkey. Easier than cutting into 9 and then froze individual servings. There isn't a separate WW restaurant app. It's all in the app you have. You can scroll down on the home page to it or do a search for a restaurant in the food search. Even though it's chain restaurants you can always find something similar and go by that. Like when we go to the soft serve ice cream place DGS works at that's not in the app I count it the same as DQ since it's similar.
Marsha, I thought of yesterday when I got off work and really wanted a salad from Wendy's but didn't want to drive to get it. It's only 2 miles if that away but even still I didn't want to drive there so I didn't. How bad is that huh?!..lol. the salads at Wendy's are surprising fresh and good. I'm still craving one.

Karen, it makes sense that you don't want to walk in the evening. When I was doing a lot of walking, I liked to break it up and do some in the morning, some in the evening. Now, I walk the dog about 2/3rd to 3/4 mile after I come home from work. If it is too hot, I do a very short loop walk, neither of us want to do the long one. I guess if you don't care about continuing in the church then agree that you shouldn't bother expressing your opinion. Do they have any social events that you might want to take part in? When is your DH scheduled to have the stents put in? Will they be done at the same time?
Pinky, glad the crops seem to be coming in OK.
Marsha, I can definitely see you getting annoyed about not knowing your DH's schedule. I hate that too. Now at least I have a bit of an advantage because I see the office calendar, so know when he might have a late meeting or conference call, and he really doesn't make other plans, but once in a while there is something he forgets to put on. It's especially good to know when he is not going to eat meals at home, especially dinner. I am happy to make tunafish or an omelet when I am by myself.
Gareth, I do the same thing when I want to find points. I rarely go to a chain restaurant, once in a while Panera, but I can't even remember the last time I was there. I estimate by figuring out what is in the dish, the quantity, and usually add for hidden butter or oil, because I know it's there.
Last night at the last minute a friend called to see if we would like to go for dinner with them. He is the one who has lymphoma. He hopefully will have a bone marrow transplant on August 15th. At first DH was not going to go, then he decided to go. I had a very nice black sea bass dish. It was herb crusted, on a light tomato sauce base with interesting flavors, some chick peas and bok choy. Odd combination, but it worked and was delicious. So it would have been great if I didn't have any bread, which was delicious, or a glass of wine.

I did like Robin and Gareth when trying to figure points for restaurants.
I love going to Panera in the summer for their Strawberry Poppyseed Chicken salad. I have discovered Wendy's salads, too. They have a chicken salad with strawberries, too. It is quite a bit cheaper than Panera which I think just raised their prices.
What is the Tall Ships festival?

Tall Ships Festival. Replicas of old masted schooners travel around and dock in places where you can go and take tours of the boats, rides if you want to pay $$$ for it, etc. We have friends who have volunteered for it for many years and they got dh involved this year so he is the liason for the replica of the Santa Maria. I think there are 5 () boats here this year.
(I typed 3 ? in a row in that parenthesis and it turned it into a frowny face. I wonder if it will do it again. )

Robin, I know your info was for Marsha, but I enjoy reading it too. I surely hope your friend’s transplant happens for him on the 15th. You’ll have to keep us posted! Are you still looking for office space?
Marsha, I’m glad you didn’t have to make the drive but still got to have lunch with DS. How old is he? Did you find something for his GF? That’s a tough one. Through trial and error I’ve found what DDIL likes but I don’t have a clue for DS2 GF. He better come up with ideas by Christmas - which by the way is 5 months from today. lol
Pinky, what is your opinion on food prices for this year since the weather really made an impact.
Karen, I feel so badly for all the pain you have. And your poor DH. Just something more to be concerned with, but as Marsha said, I won’t worry either!
Carol, I also like Panera & Wendy’s salads. Haven’t had them in quite awhile but they’re very good. I also like Wendy’s chili. Other than that, not so much!
I didn’t realize that Valerie Harper wasn’t doing well. I haven’t heard or read anything about her in ages. As you know, if she’s receiving treatment she wouldn’t be involved in hospice. It seems still that when Hospice is mentioned then death is imminent. That, more times than not, is not the case. One gentleman I visit I’ve been seeing for a year and a half. I’ve also seen hospice patients leave as they have improved (to an extent). Much as changed but the stigma is still there.

Anngie - ds is turning 26. He suggested one of those UV lights for doing gel nails, apparently she likes to do her nails and she must have mentioned it or ds would not have any idea this thing exists, but he was going to check. DD has already decided we can get her that plus a bottle of polish and a bottle of topcoat. I will wait to see, hopefully whatever he suggests we can order through Amazon since it is clear we won't see her for her birthday.

Marsha, that's a great gift if she likes to do her own nails. I looked on Amazon, they have all kinds depending on what you want to spend.
Anngie, I didn't mean it only for Marsha, but I knew that she would know what I am talking about. If anyone read The Tattooist of Auschwitz, there is a part where there are a few lines in Hebrew. That is when he was saying the memorial prayer. That part of the book really got to me. Although our congregation is nowhere near the size that it once was, it is still thriving, which is unusual. Many have either closed or join with other congregations. There are religious areas, or one area near us where there are a lot of Persian Jews, that have a lot of new congregations, but for the rest of us, there are fewer.
Carol, I like that Wendy's salad with the strawberries too. I like the Panera salads, but usually I make myself a salad in the office, so I don't go someplace like Panera or Wendy's for a salad any more. Sometimes if DH and I are on the road, and are looking for something quick, we will stop there.
Anngie, I think we are most likely going to move into another office where 2 partners are splitting up, and another lawyer and his associate will come too. However, I told DH I think he should ask our landlord about cutting our rent. The other lawyer would move in with us with his associate, and we have room for it. DH thinks the landlord will not do that. I think he would rather have less than have us move out. He has had empty offices up where we are on the 2nd floor, and he finally got one rented. One person moved out last summer. I think the others were empty for about the last 2 years.
