2. Regular grocery shopping
Bad food decisions (those that aren’t good for you and aren’t worth it) tend to arise from unpreparedness, not from lack of willpower. The sooner you get in the habit of regular grocery shopping so that you always have a better option, the sooner you’ll start seeing progress.
How do you grocery shop, once a week or over 2 or 3 days? What do you use for a list? Do you stick to your list? Do you shop for planned meals or just what you know you need or are running short on?
I usually shop once a week. Sometimes if I discover I need something I'll pick it up on Saturday evening when I go in for Mass. I live 27 miles from town so I can't just run and get something when I need it.
I used to use a paper list, but often I'd forget to take it along when I went to town. Now I keep a list on my cell phone. I usually stick to my list, but occasionally I find something that is a good buy or just something I want and haven't had for a long time.
I don't plan meals more than a day in advance so I shop for things I'm out of or know I'll need.

How do you grocery shop, once a week or over 2 or 3 days? Once a week or so and pick up anything little we run out of at nearby stores if we really need it
What do you use for a list? Do you stick to your list? When trying a new recipe or making a meal for friends I take a shopping list to make sure I get what I need. I tend to make a paper list to be sure I pick up what we have run out of but also go down the aisles and pick up what I know we need if it is not on the list. Don't always have a list and don't always stick to the list because sometimes they don't have what is on the list and I end up having to make changes on the spot.
Do you shop for planned meals or just what you know you need or are running short on? Keep the basics in the house and replenish/replace them. If I am making something new then buy the ingredients needed. I don't make a menu plan for the week because I never know what hubby will bring in from t he garden!

DH has commissary privileges. We used to go there almost every month (it is about 1 1/2 hrs away), but now that there is just the 2 of us, we are lucky to make the trip ever 3 mos or so. When we do go there, I stock up on staples. I also have lots of meat in my freezer. I can always throw together a meal at a moments notice. I just run to one of the local stores when I need something like milk or fresh fruits or veggies, also if I need something special to make a recipe.
I often make a list, but I will end up getting what's on the list plus lots of other stuff that catches my eye.
Most of the time, it's just what I'm running short of, then I pick up all the extra stuff along the way.

Mainly shop once a week. I have a list I print out and circle what I need that week (keeps me from forgetting things - mainly non-food items - like paper goods), but also works well for the food items.
When I'm planning to cook for the freezer, I usually use recipes I've made before, so I've got record of what I need for that as well.

How do you grocery shop, once a week or over 2 or 3 days? I usually shop 2 or 3 times during the week at different stores, depending on what's on sale where. I check the sale ads on Wednesday and decide which store I need to go to or if I need to go to that particular store at all. My nonsale groceries are bought at this local store that doesn't advertise sales but usually has lower prices than Safeway and Albertsons.
What do you use for a list? Do you stick to your list? I make a list and really try to stick to it. I keep a running list on my fridge of things I have run out of that I should pick up. I find if I don't have a list, I either come home without things on my list or too many things that weren't on my list.
Do you shop for planned meals or just what you know you need or are running short on? Right now, the only things that I can think of that I need/want are milk and mushrooms. I haven't been to the store this week to get them- maybe this afternoon or tomorrow. One of the stores here has cherries on sale until Tuesday, so I might stop there on Monday or Tuesday ( I bought some this week and am trying to eat those before buying more.)

Since I tend to plan day by day. We usually get basic things once a week but then meals are planned daily. Then I sometimes need to pick up a few things while I’m out. If I’m picking up a few specific things, I do best with a written list so I don’t forget anything.
