WELCOME TO REGULAR & NEW POSTERS! This thread is full of encouragement & suggestions. New people, welcome! We encourage you to jump in. One day, one hour, one minute at a time is easier to handle than a week, etc. Lurkers, join in
Our goal is 21 days Binge Free (studies show 21 days to break old habits & start new ones!). Whether we make 21 or one, the point is to learn as we go, replace binges with other things to help us through stressful times. Some days are harder than others & we may slip; that's OK. The Binge Monster is in the shadows waiting to pounce. Hopefully this thread provides inspiration, courage, & support to become a Binge Survivor!
You may see different folks on different "Cycles." A Cycle is a 21 day block of consecutive binge-free days. Stay with us for as many cycles as you'd like.
Everyone's definition of a BINGE is different. The Oxford Dictionary defines a binge as a spree of eating and drinking. To many of us, BINGE is defined as "eating without dignity." The dictionary defines "dignity" as a calm and serious manner or style, showing suitable formality or indicating that one deserves respect. Only you can define what a binge is for you. Going over points, as long as it was done with dignity and journaled (therefore acknowledged and "owned") isn't binging--it is up to you to decide.
SPECIAL THANKS TO LESLIE5609 for starting this challenge on the Out of Control Board, in August '02, and thanks to all who keep it going

20 points 1545 calories 28 APs
I’m feeling a bit better today, though not 100%.
A county sheriff rang our doorbell at a little after midnight. Talk about a heart attack. My mind first went to someone being in trouble, but then I realized we’d get a phone call and not a visit. Of course I then thought the very worst; Nick was out and Alex was two hours away camping with a friend’s family and I thought something happened. It turns out our neighbor’s detached garage was open and the light was on, and they suspected foul play after running one of the license plates in the driveway. They tried his door and he didn’t answer. Everything is fine, thank goodness.
Nancy, thank you for your words ❤️ You made me smile and even tear up a little. I know there’s so much more to look forward to, but it seems like the last 20 years went by in the blink of an eye. I really want that time back. Congratulations, you finished the week OP! I’m amazed at how far we’ve come as a group. Little did I know what lie ahead when I stumbled on this thread.

Up 1.8. Not surprising.
Today's subject was "eating from boredom and how to find a temporary distraction". Our leader spoke of a cool idea suggested by a member of another one of her groups. She suggested taking small sheets of paper (I have colored 3 x 3 memos) and write an idea on each one. Then fold them up and put them in a bowl. Instead of eating, choose one sheet and perform that task. After the meeting my take on it is to find something to do instead of something to eat. It can become a little game. Nothing should take more than 10 or 15 minutes. So here's my first attempt "play word shuffle, play words with friends, work on line dance document, practice a few line dances, update WW tracker, practice the piano, work on jigsaw puzzle, read a chapter, do something related to laundry, slice and roast some mushrooms, process a bag of cauli crumbles, call a friend, take a short walk, straighten a kitchen drawer". No reason we can't throw them right back in the bowl. New ideas keep popping into my head.
Jan - I agree wholeheartedly about this thread. I shudder to think where's I'd be without it. I too would have been petrified if the sheriff showed up. There's a blessing for your list - "it wasn't about the kids" <g>.

Thursday's Stats: SP 27 AP 3 WP 27 remaining Steps 6110
Friday's Stats: SP 17 AP 3 WP 27 remaining Steps I din't keep the numbers but I think I ended up over 7000
Today's special news: Down another 1.6 at WI
Most of the AP came from Marisol and me going 10 minutes, then my letting her in while doing steps in place, (unfortunately the pedometer doesn't count those steps) followed by my walking another 10 minutes. She almost always tries to pull us up the driveway as soon as she's done with her business. I have pulled her to stay with me or walked up the driveway and then, when close to the garage door, turning her around and going back out, This is easier than pulling her. DM gets upset when I do pull her; she's called me mean. I'm afraid that if the dog doesn't follow my commands on this it's just a reason for her not to follow them on other things. She knows come, sit, stay, and heel but she doesn't always do them when I want her to.
The weather has mostly been very hot days but it's only 80 right now. We have all the fans on but I'm hoping it will get cool enough tonight to get the inside temp a little more livable.
Nancy - great job on solving the Fitbit mystery. Since I've no loner got the Vivofit I'm wondering if there's another way to enter steps. I don't think the EKHO three.5 has an internet capacity but I've not gotten past the instructions that set up the watch and record footsteps. Just read your note on the bowl idea. I might try that too.
Lori-how wonderful that you can such time with your DM. I try to get my DM to go to activities, especially one's in my community. Either she doesn't want to go because of cost or she's concerned about her clothing or the appearance of her hair. I've even gotten a voucher for 20% from the place I go to because DM was upset about how her first experience went.
Jan-I'm so glad you feel you can turn to us with those thoughts and concerns. Nancy made a far more eloquent response than I could ever hope to. Neither my brother nor I ever married or had children so that part of family life is something I have no experience with.
Beth-how nice to see you here. I thought the pickleball might be holding on to a bit of your time. When you get to "love" a sport it can be a wonderful experience. I unfortunately haven't been able to skate since Mar 3. I think the issue with my foot is resolved now it's dealing with the timing of the lesson schedules that are available. It's always harder in the summer.

Beth, Wonderful to see your post! Sounds like you are in a happy place and loving pickleball!
Jan, glad your feeling a little better. I think I would of had heart failure when the door bell rang...thank goodness everything was fine but what a scare...
Louise I thought of you when I was at my Mom’s. I wanted to go for a walk but not leave my Mom so the perfect time was when she went to take her shower and get ready for the day. I got a good 20-30 min walk in and she didn’t even miss me... wondering if that would work for you...
Beautiful day yesterday and wonderful lunch with DM and her GF. I had a great, big spinach salad w/feta, cranraisins, almond slivers topped with grilled salmon at an outside eatery near the bay. I asked for all the toppings on the side so I could add them myself. Worked out great especially since I took half home and enjoyed them for lunch....

Louise - I found the weight you lost and more. I'm hoping for a really strong week as I've got less than 2 weeks until trip to Columbus which has historically been my undoing. Hoping to turn it around this time but.....
Lori - Sounds like a lovely controlled luncheon. I have to remember about putting the toppings on the side. I never think to do that. It's good that you managed to sneak in a walk.
