5. Chew thoroughly As fun as it is to wolf down a massive plate of food without actually tasting anything, slowing down and chewing makes your eating experience even better. Effective foodists cultivate mindfulness when they eat, which ultimately results in eating less and enjoying it more.
Do you try to eat mindfully and chew thoroughly?
I try to be mindful when I'm eating and put my fork down between bites. Often though, my mind wanders and I'm not focused on what I'm eating and when that happens I don't taste and enjoy my food as much. I read that chewing 20 times or so is a good number to aim for. Some things take more chewing and some less.

I have heard all of this and sometimes do think about the flavors and textures BUT not usually...or chew a bunch of times...how many times can you chew mashed potatoes or a spoon of yogurt

This is an "it depends" kind of thing with me. When I'm focused, when I have time...that kind of thing. It is a good idea, makes me pay attention to what I'm eating. However, I don't think I've ever counted to myself as I chew to get to a specific number.
Cathy mentioned yogurt - that is one of the foods I will turn to when I'm hungry, but don't have much time...because I can eat it quickly.

My mom, who lived to be 98, always ate very slowly. She always insisted that it was important for digestion. Too bad, I never listened to her, I eat way too fast! Yet another area that I need to work on.

Funny, but just this weekend I found myself eating really fast and made myself put down my fork between bites. Now, I just need to be more aware of when I do it.

I need to continue to slow down and be more aware as I eat. My dog watches carefully to see if there are any leftovers for her.😊
