Well, I just lost a long post. Sometimes even using Notepad has its challenges. GRRRR.... Anyway, I'm very upset about two shootings so close in time and following the other two earlier in the week. There is no reason for assault weapons to exist outside of military or law enforcement. They shouldn't be available to individuals under any circumstances. But guns aren't the major problem. It's the people who think they are the answer to what ever they see as what's wrong in this country.
Becky, I heard about the "manifesto" from the El Paso shooter. Definitely sounds like a hate crime targeting Latinos. Mental health is a major issue in this country and only partially related to mass killings. There are so many people on the edge and just need a certain provocation to act. Scary! I checked earlier and my new computer shipped from China yesterday and is supposed to be here on Friday. That's a couple weeks ahead of the estimated time when I ordered it. And it beat the new round of tariffs imposed on China, so maybe it's good that my computer started experiencing issues when it did.
Great to hear from you, Liz, but sorry you are still experiencing so much pain. Will you have tomorrow off for your appointments? If so, that should decrease your step count. Are you using the Alta yet? Hopefully you will get some relief tomorrow, plus some answers and a plan. Happy grocery shopping. How's Zoe? Happy that you enjoyed your birthday present, even if getting the tickets was a bit of a challenge. Hope it took away the pain for a little while.
Chele, I hate that the latest shooting hit familiar territory for you. I know you have probably shopped and eaten there, but fortunately not on a weekend night. And so close on the heels of the tornado outbreak. Did you go to the farmers market yesterday? What did you find?
I agree with the 2004 law being changed, Linda, especially in light of the two latest shootings being carried out by 19 and 20 year olds. Rest those aches and pains today. I don't blame you for staying out of a hot car. How hot does it get in your garage? Just curious as to whether you have AC, fans, or some other way of keeping the air moving in there.
Kathy, the desktop publishing software is a Libre program but isn't part of the Libre Office suite. It is quite different from Publisher but supposedly more similar to Adobe InDesign, which I have never used. I agree that social media is very involved in getting people fired up about supposed injustices. And then there are the Russian hackers posting fake news on social media that people believe and feel they need to act upon. It wouldn't upset me if Facebook just went away. Granted, it's the main means I have for keeping up with what's going on with nieces and nephews and other family and friends, but there is so much negativity there. I have gotten into the habit of hiding all posts that are political in any way. I'm just so tired of it all and we still have a long time until the election in 2020.
We both got out on kayaks early to beat the boaters but also because we may get some storms this afternoon. Dale went to the apple orchard and is bringing home lots of fruits and veggies. He will also stop at the supermarket to pick up frozen veggies for me to do the monthly big cook for Arya tomorrow. He found her some yellow squash, so I will add that to the other veggies for something different. Large load of workout clothes in the dryer and I'll do some veggie cooking this afternoon. Lake level is going down, so we may only have a couple more weeks to swim.
