Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. A very noisy, rainy, windy early evening yesterday. We had, if I am right, 3 separate storms roll thru, all in the early evening. This time we were prepared for the winds, by taking down all the hanging decorations from the balcony, except the hummingbird feeder. I felt so bad, watching the little birds trying to hang on, so they could eat.
Gareth, did you get any of the storms that came thru, last night? I hope if they did, they weren't too bad. Yes, the weekend flew by! As Robin, I too heard that there were 3,000 people in the WM. Didn't they also say that it is part of a mall? Maybe that is why there are so many people in that store, I can't imagine any of the 3 in our greater GB area having that many customers in it at any one time, excluding Black Friday.
Pinky, thanks for sending us your thunderstorms, lol!!! It got to be old, after awhile, as it just kept coming. After it calmed down, right at sunset, there was the most beautiful orange/red sky. Very unusual. Tomorrow we have to take DD2 to the hospital for a colonoscopy and endoscopy, to see why she gets violently sick quite a bit. Then Thursday DH has his procedure to get 2 stents put in, 1 behind his knee, the other in his heart. Oh, I remember those times being on baby alert!!! We had that for DD2 2nd pregnancy. Good times, looking back on it.
Anngie, yeah, she has lost a couple jobs, because of taking off of work so much, even with doctors excuses. I can understand both sides. We still have not called the local office about the Pastor. I know we will be on the phone for quite awhile, so I am putting it off. Nothing can be done in a hurry, so I am not too concerned. That must have been such a pain, being on the committee both times!! About WM, we can go to the WM on this side of town, around 8 or 9 in the morning during the work week and it is not bad at all, rather on the quiet side. The day we were locked into the store from the storm, I was surprised at how many customers ended up in the back room, as I did not see that many people in the store while we were shopping, before the tornado warning.
Carol, I had heard there were 3,000 customers in the store at the time of the shooting. While I was rehabing my 2nd knee, I did online, drive up shopping once at Walmart, and loved it. The only thing with online shopping, you can't browse, or try things on, which is fine on a lot of things, since we all have a basic shopping list of our everyday things. I can't believe that about that woman at church!!! I would just leave her alone, to heck with her! She is going to loose a lot of church friends.
Marsha, I wonder too, how those people could stand the heat, wearing those costumes. I have seen news clips on TV of those fairs, same with the civil war reenactments. (Heritage Hill). The uniforms and some of the ladies dresses, and hovering around a firepit, cooking...and the temp is in the high 80's! DH has a lot of tickets left over from Bay Beach, but he wants to take all the kids back out there right before school starts. Nice idea, but I don't think it will work. Saturday's rain was unreal, and then yesterday!!! Our storms are getting weirder, and weirder! I have mentioned some of what we dealt with the Pastor in the past, maybe later, I will take the time to explain, there are so many things going on with him, it started with us, and it has been building since. With us it started in 2016. That poor baby dog!!! She was really mad that you were gone!!! I hope your DD got off the river early.
Robin, personally, I do not think they will be getting rid of that Pastor for quite awhile, so I am not worrying about going back there yet. Have not heard anything about abortions/gun purchase...thank goodness. Yay, on getting rid of the piano, even tho it has to hold a lot of good memories. Do you have any resale shops there? Maybe donate all that stuff of your Mom's to those...? If it is really good shape, we also have a Unity Hospice resale shop. That store is very nice, a lot of high end furniture, and the profits go back into the hospice program.
Yesterday....oh my! Lots going on here. DH was sitting in his recliner with his laptop on his lap, drinking a cup of coffee. He has a tendency to doze off, while holding the cup, and usually I catch him at it and scold him to put the cup down. Not yesterday....he dozed off and sure enough...dumped the whole cup all over his laptop, him and his chair. Needless to say, I tried to get the coffee out of the laptop, but all of a sudden I heard the death sound on it...sizzzling...then it went black. Googled what to do, so DH and the laptop went out on the balcony, to hair dry it. Did not help, as he then tried turning it on. The light won't come on, so I am sure he fried the circuitry. We just bought that machine in December, a xmas present to him. I have been wanting to get him an IPad, for when he is laying in bed watching TV, so that is why we will do, no more laptop for him.
Then he got the call from the Dermatologist. 1 of the 3 spots on his scalp, the one they took a biopsy of, is cancerous, so there is a procedure the doctor recommends called Mohs surgery. It takes small amounts of skin off the top, and as the patient is wrapped in a bandage, and waits, they test it for cancer. They keep doing this, till the get skin that does not have any cancer. He will go home with most of his scalp wrapped in a bandage. He is scared. His brother (the one that brought out the big issue with that Pastor) died of skin cancer on his arm, in 2016. I googled the procedure, and showed him where it says it has a high rate of success, but that did not impress him. He wants to go today, and make sure that our head stone is finally put on the plot. Plus one of his close friends passed away Sunday, with him getting a PM from the guy's wife shortly after he got the news from the doctor, yesterday. He is the type of guy that is not good with words, to send for condolences, to he had me reply to the PM to his wife. So, so, sad. This friend ended up being totally full of cancer, so his passing was not a surprise, just a lot of sadness.
We will go today, after I get to the Y this morning, to see about our headstone, then go to WM to get him a Ipad. I think I will take the extra insurance out on it.
Have a nice day everyone.

Karen, I have had Mohs surgery done 3 times, all around my nose. That is what they do for basal cell. They do it all at one time, he does not have to be put out, they will just numb the area, and I would imagine that because it is on his scalp they will not do plastic surgery, but the doctor that does the Mohs will just stitch him up. From now on when he is outside, either fishing, hunting, or whatever, he should wear a hat because he will probably not put sunscreen on his scalp.
It is a very dingy day here. possibly rain, but it isn't very hot. We are not having a good day though, DS was rear ended when coming to work. His car is driveable, and he was hit by an NYPD officer, in his own car though, so they guy knew that it was his fault. Just not something you want happening. He is on his way here now, he propped up the bumper somehow so he can drive here slowly.

DD was off the river before the storms hit yesterday. I texted her when the storms started here and she said they were on their way home ahead of the storms and hoping to outrun them. They got as far as her friend's house which is about 30 miles away, then dd waited for a break about an hour or so and drove home between 2 of the storms, so all was well. I was supposed to go grocery shopping but didn't because of the weather and since I was gone all weekend and skipped groceries we are seriously depleted and I must go tonight.
Karen - where is that resale shop? If you replace dh's laptop, look for the plastic cover you can fit over the keyboard. They are designed to keep out dust in a dirty workplace but it might help next time he spills. Good luck with the medical stuff this week. So sorry for dh's news and for his reaction, I know the procedure will go well and he will be fine. When will he go for the procedure?

Sitting here waiting to be called back if I can pick up my new laptop today. I hate waiting to be called back. I thought they would’ve by now. I took my laptop in yesterday to be fixed. With as old as it is and all the problems I’ve been having with it, it would’ve cost almost as much as a new one so it was a no brainer to get a new one.
Karen, DH’ s laptop should be covered by warranty. Worth checking. All they can say is no because of it being his fault. Even though I take good care of my electronics I always get insurance and extended warranty to be on the safe side. There were storm warnings out for part of the state last night but I haven’t heard if there actually was any. It must’ve rained last night after I went to bed since the deck and table on it were wet this morning. I didn’t see any puddles of water anywhere though when I walked so we must not have gotten much. We sure could use a good, soaking rain. It’s sunny now but was foggy earlier.

I decided to quit posting about the weather. I'm sure I sound like a broken record. It's hot, it's humid and if we get any rain, it'll just make things muggy, but it will still be hot.
Robin, sorry about your DS's car. Good no one was injured.
And Karen, sorry about your DH's skin procedure and his laptop. My DH can go to sleep anywhere. So far he hasn't spilled coffee on himself, but like you, I keep an eye on him. He falls asleep watching TV almost every night.
Yes, the woman at church complaining about the nursery doesn't seem to realize how her whining makes her look to others. I think people were a little sympathetic at first because some people just don't like change, but now people roll their eyes and think she should get over it.
It is hard to imagine that many people at Walmart. Ours is really busy on Saturdays, of course. One of my life rules is don't go to Walmart on Saturday unless it is a real emergency.

Karen, oh no - DH now has this to think about. This is the most treatable though just as Robin explained. The timing, though, with such a good friend passing, is a lot to take in in one day. What kind of skin cancer did his brother have? Sorry about the laptop, though. Are there any individual computer “fixers” you can bring it to? We have one near here that’s very dependable.
Robin, your poor DS! At least he’s OK - although I’ll bet he’s livid! Not only will it need to fix, I’m assuming, but the inconvenience of it all.
Marsha, smart DD - at least she knew enough to wait it out. Not all do and they try to “beat” the storm. How’s Mitzi by the way?
Gareth, what kind of computer did you get?
Carol, is the church lady elderly? Please don’t say she’s our age! Maybe just ignoring her (the best you can) and time, it will die a slow death. If this doesn’t work, perhaps the pastor should get involved.
I’m reading one of Maeve Binchy’s book titled Heart and Soul. Just an easy, laidback read.

Anngie - Mitzi is good and seems to have recovered from being left at home. She's eating up a storm making up for skipping meals for a day. Makes me wonder, though, if she eats at all when we leave her at the kennel. They always say she does well but I wonder do they really pay attention to whether every single dog eats?

Went on a parts run for DH right away this morning and ran a couple of errands while there so arrived back home just in time to make the guys something to eat and here I am. DD had a Dr. appt this morning and I half expected the call that she was going to the hospital from the clinic but not the case. I do know however I will be headed that way in the next couple of days. Hooray--can't wait to hold that new baby in my arms!
Karen--Oh your welcome for the T-storms, you can probably expect more your way in the night tonight or tomorrow some time as we are forecasted some nastly looking stuff late this afternoon and this evening. You do have a lot on your plate this week both mentally and physically. Hope they get answers for your DD quickly and all goes well for your DH. I have taken my DMIL 2 different times for the Mohs procedure and hers were quite deep and we did spend quite a bit of the day there. As RObin said they take a layer of skin at a time and keep doing so until a layer comes back with no cancer cells. It takes about a half an hour between each layer. The first time DMIL had to have skin grafting from her neck and the 2nd time we ended up at the plastic surgeons after all of the layers taken off from dermatologist. These were both on her nose. She looks great now but it is kind of tough at first. At least your DH can put a cap on or something but hard to hide the nose. I hope I didn't scare you with that so now I will tell about my DH having the Mohs procedure. He was clear after the 2nd layer was removed and had 2 stitches with this being by the side of his eye. Turned out great and didn't take long at all. I do think the Mohs is a very effective procedure and easy on the patient. Sorry about your DH's friend---I'm sure this has given him a lot to think about. Darn that spill on his laptop--I would check into a fix, probably not a possibility but never hurts to check.
Robin---Darn on your DS being rear ended but at least everyone is okay. Glad you found a home for your DM's baby grand.
Marsha--glad your DD made it off the river and home safely, she sounds like a smart girl!!
Gareth--Bet you will love your new laptop even when it takes a little bit to figure out all the newness of it.
Carol---seems like every church has to have one of those ladies in yet. The church I went to all of my life until about 10 years ago has one just like that and she is still there. The church we go to now does not have someone like this and it is rare and so nice. Many of my friends that go to other churches always talk about someone who thinks they are the boss as well. Hopefully she will get over it soon---don't you just want to say "who made you the boss anyway"!!! Best to keep quiet and let it die down I know.
Anngie---I will check into that Maeve Binchy book, I could use easy laid back right now for a read.
Hoping DD doesn't call back for me today as I do not want to drive through heavy rain or storms. DH will come up to see the baby if it comes before Saturday but we won't go together as I will be staying most likely 2 nights and he leaves on a trip for a week starting Sat. He has a lot of stuff he is trying to get done what with being gone, of course DS#2 my big body guard will be around as well as our hired man.
I am still just not getting into The Rosie Project---anyone else have input on this book?
