Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Looking forward to some storms later today, till then just warm.
I don't have time for personals this morning, I will try to come on here later today, if we get home early enough. But I wanted to say thank you to all who mentioned the Mohs procedure. What you told me is exactly what I read, googling it, which in turn told DH. But he won't listen to me, he is very worried he will die from it, since his brother did. Even tho I think his brother's skin cancer was not caught till it was at a later stage.
Have a nice day everyone.

Karen, hope all goes well today. I'm sure it's natural for DH to be concerned but especially because of his brother.
Sounding like a broken record again this morning. Loving this weather. Just couldn't ask for better walking weather. Loving my new laptop. It's a MacBook Pro Anngie like my old one so except for a few improvements that I love like touch ID there really isn't much to get used to. Everything transferred over from my old laptop. I went to a 13" instead of the 15" I had and love the smaller size.
Almost finished with Lies. Then it'll be Distant Shores. As usual I'm pressed for time so got to get ready for work.

Karen---Sending prayers and all good thoughts for your DH and DD!!
Gareth--Glad you are loving the new laptop. I always love the upgrades, well usually, sometimes it can take a little while to get used to some of the different changes.
Have a great day everyone!

Karen, your DBIL might have had melanoma, which is what people sometimes die from because of the way it spreads. If he has basal cell, which is what they do Mohs surgery on, although it is a malignant form of cancer, it is totally not the same.
I read a great book that I finished this morning from one of my guilty pleasure authors Marie Force. She wrote 2 books, last year Five Years Gone, and yesterday the book One Year Home came out. They are touching, gut wrenching, wonderful stories.
Not in the mood to say much more right now, but hi to all.

Karen - keeping dh in my thoughts today. Robin had some good comments by way of explaining why dh is different from his brother. I listened to This American Life yesterday - it is the podcast ds told me about. The subject was memory and the first story was about a family that decided not to tell the grandmother that she was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and given 3 months to live. Skip to the end- 3 years later she is still alive and doesn't know she is "sick". I thought that was very interesting - I have always believed our attitude can make a big difference in how we feel.
Gareth - enjoy your new laptop.
Hi Pinky and Robin.
Dog walked this morning. I did get to the grocery store last night so that means there is food in the house again and a plan for dinner - salmon. DD is working but I expect when those storms roll in late this afternoon they will close the lake and she will be home. Came in to work this morning to a complaint about the computers so I thougth I'd try rebooting the servers. Turns out when I rebooted one of them decided to load updates and they were down for an hour and a half. Way to kill a morning!

Robin---I so agree with what you said about the different types of cancer, Melanoma is the scary one. I will check into Marie Force's books. I hope all is okay with you in reference to your comment about not being in the mood to say more than HI. I can feel like that a little bit sometime as well so hope its just the mood you are in and not something wrong.
Marsha---Hi! I hope after the hour and a half time on the updates it fixed the problem at least. I so agree about the attitude being so a big part of the battle. I am not knowledgeable at all on podcasts--is this a podcast I can some how get or can you give me tips--it sounds very interesting.

Karen, I think sometimes intellectually you know something is going to be okay, then your anxiety takes over and you think of all the bad things that could happen. I guess that is what is going on with your DH especially because of his brother. Praying all goes well.
Re: woman at church. She is one of those people who always sees the negative in things. Even if you ask about her family, she is "they are fine, but..."and tells you the bad things that happened to them. I can think of a couple of others like that. I try to be nice and listen, but I find myself avoiding them. I think when she realizes things will not go back like they were, she will drop it or at least I hope so.
I had $10 Kohl's cash so I went to spend it today. It didn't expire until the 11th, but tax-free weekend is coming up and I didn't to be caught in that later. I had to get some other things, but fortunately the stores were in the same area so I didn't have to drive all over town to get them and it didn't take long.
We found someone close who is Apple approved to work on computers. The nearest Apple store is in a Dallas suburb and you have wait for appointments.

Pinky - the podcast is on This American Life. They have a website so you could probably find it there. Otherwise if you download the Wisconsin Public Radio ap, go to On Demand, then This American Life. It is the episode called In Defense of Ignorance which is the current episode(so I guess it's not really about memory, more about not knowing?) The first story is the one I was talking about.

Just stopping in today. I hope all is going well, Karen. Hang in there. I’ll bet DBIL did pass from melanoma. I have an uncle that did as well. Sometimes I think the human mind would rather blow everything out of proportion than to remain calm and take the “wait and see” approach.
DS2 had a large tree snap off at the top and become wedged between trees. The tree now needs to come down - to the tune of $5,500! Mainly because three other trees will need to come down just to get to it. He’s fit to be tied to say the least. Nothing like being a happy home owner! lol
We’re leaving early Saturday morning for a family vacation to the outer banks of NC. We’ve rented a house so the kids and grandkids can all come down. It’s a 10 hour drive for us and DS2 and 6 hours for DS1 and family. It should be a lot of fun to all be together - but let me tell you, the packing for this trip is unbelievable! Never gave that a thought when I came up with this idea!
I lost the very first hospice patient I was given yesterday - I’ve been visiting with him for a year and a half. Such a nice man, I’ll miss him.
