Day 39 – Keep Up with Exercise
We all know this is important.
Here are some suggestions from Beck on how to get yourself to exercise or get yourself to increase your exercise:
Focus on how you will feel when you finish exercising.
Put exercising in a NO Choice category.
Meet a friend or trainer.
Give yourself lots of credit.
Focus on your progress.
End your sessions with something positive.
Make sure you are doing a type of exercise you like.
How are you doing with getting yourself to exercise?
If you are exercising, why do you exercise?

I'm in an exercise slump.

I do 30 minutes on the recumbent bike every day and get the rest of my steps walking in the house or stores this time of year.I exercise so I can maintain my goal weight and not gain it back.Mainly because it's something I don't have to push myself to do.I have to do the gentler cardio because both of my knees are bad although the right one hurts worse.

I have started setting the timer for an hour then walk for five minutes then reset the timer. I have done 15-25 minutes this way and don't get hot and sweaty like walking outside in the sun for half an hour in one go.

I do some strength and flexibility exercises (using just my body weight) every day without fail. I lift weights a couple of times a week, do abs a little more often. My cardio has been seriously lacking. I'm down to only one or two times a week. I also walk by the ocean occasionally. DH is caught up in his new exercise regime that he's doing with his personal trainer, so we haven't gone walking as often as in the past.
I am happy with my body's appearance and functionality for my age. I am mostly pain free.

I hit the gym about 4-5 x week for cardio on treadmill, and am going to try to add jogging a minute every 5 minutes of walking. I am trying to add in weights 3x week but so far not successful in continuity. It's only an extra 20 minutes so I have no excuses. Maybe I need to make this a NO CHOICE thihttp://wwmessageboard.freeforums.net/post/new/40957ng! Am doing restorative Hatha yoga 2x week, but that feels more like moving meditation to me - she uses sound healing with the yoga, so while you're holding a position, she plays great music or she plays actual instruments like Tibetan singing bowls, gongs, chimes, etc. It's really a great class but it's not cardio at all, more about mind-body and flexibility. I still want to add back Pilates when I can afford a decent studio as that's the one thing that really whipped me into shape in the past.
bbbearsmom, do you have a Y or a JCC in your area? If so, please check out their class schedule to see if there are any classes that sound interesting to you. My local Ys offer so many classes - yoga for all ages and abilities, tai chi, and many group exercise classes as well as group pool exercise classes. From what I know of you here, I really think you would love a good gentle Hatha yoga class, tai chi, and any pool-based exercise classes. If you don't have a local Y/JCC, check out your local gyms with pools and see what they offer, and/or check out your local public pool if you have one, they often have group exercise water classes that I think you'd like. I know you've mentioned depression and seasonal disorder in the past, and I really think that a mind/body class like yoga or tai chi would be great for your mental health. And I think water classes would be great, especially in the summer where you are!

Why don't you try walking in the early morning or in the evening when it's cooler outside? Bugs...there are these tiny little bugs that sneak into my hair and bite my scalp and other that just find me and crawl on me. I don't like the bites and don't want to wear bug spray. Perhaps an excuse and I could use the sunshine BUT came in last time with more than one bite in my scalp that itched and oozed and scabbed...not nice. Think they are midges or something. Tiny little things they call Nhiss here...
