Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Looks like today, weather wise will be good, after a very wicked thunder storm system (weather guys called it a train) came thru here late yesterday afternoon/evening. It really looked like a hurricane.
Gareth, isn't if funny how we stick to a brand of computer that we are used to? With you it is MacBook, with us laptops are HP, (well, now we only have 1 HP left, mine), the 2 phones are Apple, and now DH IPad is Apple. We loved our HP's, but also love Apple. Never was exposed to Mac's. Back in the day, our first computer was a Compac. Funny too that you went down on size, and love it. Did you get any of those awful storms yesterday? It seems like each time we get them, they are getting worse. I just finished Distant Shores a week or two ago, was not happy with the main character, but I eventually changed my mind. I am sure you will like the book.
Pinky, thank you. One down, one to go!! Lol. I will touch on DD day yesterday, later, when finished with personals. What's the latest on DD? Have you heard anything? We will miss you while you are gone.......
Robin, I get in those moods too, where I don't want to chat much. With all us women have shoved off on us, I am surprised we are not raging mad women!! But nope...we are angels!!! Lol. DH is getting better, about his skin cancer, I think it is just his nature to be all down and out about his health. Of course he does have a lot going on, so I guess I shouldn't poo poo his worries.
Marsha, thank you. Yesterday was DD, today DH. Yesterday St.Vincent hospital, today Bellin, lol!! What with working all those years at Bellin, then all these years of DD and I going to Bellin for health issues, going to St.V's seemed so strange!! Wasn't last nigh something?? I read on Brad Spakowitz's post of the weather last night that he thought a tornado went thru Bellevue...was that close to you? Glad you got to the grocery store, you know how that goes, with a storm coming, everyone runs to the store!! Did you loose power at all? We never did, but those winds wiping around our patio door had me worried they would break.
Carol, I think DH just panicked when he first heard that yes he had skin cancer, then realizing that that is what his DB died of. Also, DH is not healthy, so that just adds to his anxiety. Poor guy! Thank you for your prayers. Unreal, about that woman at church. Sounds like she is just someone you all will just have to suffer with. Too bad that there is one person in the congregation like that.
Anngie, I am so sorry for your loss!! How sad, it is hard, even when you know it is coming. Wow, that is a lot of money for those trees! We have a whole region of our state, up north going thru clearing out of downed trees, which will probably take a long time to get done. Sounds like the counties up there will run out of places to dump all the trees/rubbish. Have a great time on your vacation, you certainly earned it!! Have a safe trip! We will miss you.
DD the endoscope and colonoscopy yesterday morning, and the doctor doing it did not see anything, but he did take biopsies. I am worried that they won't find anything wrong...then what? DH stents procedure is this afternoon. I will be coming home from the hospital tonight alone, as the doctor warned he will be staying overnight. Yesterday DH Derm doctor office called to set up the date for the Mohs surgery, they did not have an opening till the week before our trip up to Minocqua (end of Sept), so he passed on that date, the next date they had open was October 17, which he took. An hour after they booked that apt, they called back saying they had a cancellation for this morning!! LOL!!!! Of course he had to pass, because of the stent procedure, darn!
Well, I think I am caught up, have a nice day everyone!

Karen, with all your computers, do a search on skin cancers. I am sure he has basal cell, especially if they are letting him delay it, but also because they are saying he needs Mohs surgery. It could be squamous cell too, but not melanoma. The big difference is that melanoma is the one that is more aggressive and spreads. Basal Cell rarely spreads, and is not a big deal unless it goes untreated for a long time. Seeing as your DH sees doctors regularly, I am sure he didn't ignore it. Maybe they will get another cancellation and call you before October 17th too. I hope all goes well today. With your DD, I know that sometimes you hope they find something so they can give you something to treat it. Maybe it is some kind of allergy. Hopefully they will give her other options, or some kind of treatment.
Anngie, that trip to NC with your DS's and family sounds like a lot of fun.
We had storms last night, it just started to sprinkle as I was walking the dog. Then it had moments of very bad rain, and some not as bad. I read more of Chelsea Girls. Not liking it as much as I did in the beginning, but maybe just not in the mood for it. I think I will finish it today though.
I think I have too much going on between the wedding, office stuff, my DM's house, too much going on right now I can't even decide where I want to go for dinner for my birthday on Sunday.

Karen - has dd talked with a nutritionist? If they don't find anything medically wrong, perhaps a nutritionist can steer her towards foods that are less likely to cause that kind of reaction. We aren't extremely close to where that tornado hit, not real far away but not really our neighborhood. DD ended up driving home in the storm because there was one family playing in the sand that was hoping the lake would reopen and the guards can't shut the park down if anyone is there. The lake was closed - they have to close for 30 minutes following thunder, so they were waiting for the 30 minutes to be up. Then 20 minutes into that there was more thunder so they would have to start the count over and the family finally left. By the time they got the bathrooms cleaned, etc., they were all leaving in the storm. I was happy to be home and happy I had done the grocery shopping on Tuesday in between storm nights!
Robin - I hate it when I am juggling too many things. Do you rely on lists? I have to when there is a lot to remember.
Still reading Becoming but I feel like I want to be done with it. The kindle says I am 85% done so I guess I'll stick it out but I want to be reading something else now. It has been good, interesting, but I'm getting bored with it.
Dog walked this morning but a short walk as I lay in bed too long. My buddy is out of town so I didn't get up early to meet her. Tonight - pedicure after dd gets off of work.

Sorry about those storms that came your way ladies---thankfully on Tuesday night we were spared of it and only had a few raindrops but central SD did not fair to well and guessing that is the storm path Karen and Marsha were close too. From north central to south central SD a stream went through that did horrible damage. One smaller town to the south had very much damage to homes, there school and the lumberyard there---the pictures of it on our local tv channel looked terrible. Further to the north of that town, like probably 125 miles to the north the same system brought winds of up to 100 mph and baseball size hail so much damage there as well. It is a beautiful blue sunny sky here this morning and actually on the cool side with a high of 78 degrees---a perfect day in my books.
Karen---sorry they didn't find anything with your DD in the tests yesterday. Not always good the results a person can be diagnosed with but at least you know what you are dealing with. I wonder if it would help to keep a food journal so she could see any coincidences when she gets sick and what she had eaten. Just a thought. Has she had her gallbladder out? Our DD is hanging in there but it will be soon now. I am going up there today whether I stay there tonight or I bring the boys back here.
Anngie---your trip sounds wonderful! Can I be a part of your family----please!!
Robin---you do have a lot going on and see where you are feeling stressed. Take care of yourself and if I am not on this weekend(due to new baby) have a very Happy Birthday! Try to enjoy it and with all you are feeling right now pick what you want and go for it---the day is all about you.
Marsha----I'm sure DD and everyone was wishing that family would just go home---crazy people!! I see I am finally about #5 on Becoming, I think I started out in the 70's at the beginning of 2019. Good thing I haven't been waiting to have something to read---LOL!!!

Home from work and just had breakfast. Sitting now for awhile while my Fitbit is on the charger. Can't move and not get credit for any steps! We lucked out here with no storms. We sure could use some rain though. I started Distant Shores this morning. It's not grabbing me yet. It's reminding me too much of a romance novel which i don't care for. It just doesn't seem like a Kristin Hannah book. I forget now who asked if I'd read her Home Front. Yes, I did and liked it. I've liked all of her books. That's what's got me wondering about this one.
Karen, one thing I like about my Apple products is that they "talk" to each other so everything is there no matter what device I'm using. Maybe DD's biopsy will show show something. When i had my colonoscopy it didn't show anything until the biopsy came back showing I have lymphocytic colitis which was causing my GI distress. That type of colitis is caused by NSAIDS and certain meds which I avoid now and for the most part don't have any problems.
Robin, you do have a lot going on. No wonder you're stressed. Hopefully it all works out soon.
Pinky, beautiful day here too. Bet you're getting anxious for that baby to make an appearance!
Marsha, I know I'd feel the same way about Becoming. I'm sure some of it is interesting but a lot boring too so I haven't attempted reading it.
Anngie, what a fun trip for your family!
Carol, there always has to be that one person that's hard to deal with.

Someone asked how old this woman at church is. I think she is probably in her late to mid 70s. I'm not good at guessing ages, but from the ages of her children and grandchildren, that is what I would guess. You all are right, there is always someone who is hard to deal with. Her reaction just caught us off guard.
I'm sorry I didn't hear about the severe weather. Glad everyone is okay.
We switched to an Apple computer several years ago and we had IPhones. DH did something to his phone and for some reason, he decided to get an Android. He really couldn't give me a good reason for switching. I'm staying with Apple.
Karen, sorry your DD didn't get answers. Keeping a food diary sounds like a good idea.
Pinky, hope the baby comes soon.

Karen, how is DH doing - I’m assuming the stents have been placed. You’re right, in a way it’s too bad the tests were inconclusive. I’ll bet it’s food related. Has she been tested for colitis, Crohns and anything in between? There’s another one which I can’t think of for the life of me but will mention when I do. A friend was diagnosed with this, finally, as it took a long time for the diagnosis.
Robin, sorry that you’re so swamped right now. You have so much going on! Before you know it you’ll be enjoying yourself at DS’s wedding! Has your piano been moved out of DM house? I know I’m early, but happy birthday on Sunday!
Pinky, yes, the more family the merrier! Good luck with that new baby - can’t wait to hear the name!
Marsha, I feel the same way, when the weather turns for the worse, all I want to be is home! The garage door closes behind me and whew - made it!
Gareth, I had asked about Home Front. I’ll put it on my list. Did you also read Firefly Lane? Another one of hers is Summer ‘69 which is also on that list!
Carol, did you spend your Kohls cash? Sometimes it’s a pain trying to find something to spend it on. Good marketing technique on their part, though! I sure like my iPhone - I don’t think I could switch to something else. When we needed a new laptop we went with the MacBook Pro. Now that took some getting used too!

Anngie, yes, I spent my Kohl's cash on a new nightgown and a book for DGS. The total was $20.00 so I had to pay only $10 which I thought was a good deal. You're right. Sometimes it is hard to find something to spend it on. I've just grabbed socks before when I couldn't find anything else.
Karen, hope all went well with DH.

Gareth, Kristin Hannah wrote romances before she wrote The Nightingale. She followed that with The Great Alone, so it is interesting she made that kind of switch.
