This is a thread devoted to those in their 50s & 60s and beyond who don't have children or grandchildren but live rich, full lives. Please feel free to join our stroll thru life and come back often for support and to share. *********** Take care, Micki. Donāt be too mad at your humans today. Linda, I hope the day is not too stressful for you and Bob.
Liz, take care of yourself. I am sure you canāt wait to get that hip taken care of. I hope the pain solutions are helpful. Glad to hear Zoe had her stitches out and is doing well.
Glad BIL is doing well, Kathy.
Becky, I was wondering if you were thinking of a knee replacement since the shots didnāt really help. I hope you can do that sooner rather than later.
Karen, recovery from any procedure is always so different person to person. You have to let yourself heal at your own pace. Hope the feet continue to heal.

Oh dear. About fifteen minutes after Micki went to surgery, they calked to say they found a second mass a bit further over and think it is another fatty tumor. Fingers crossed. He had surgery for two five years ago, Looks like he will be like the last male who grew them like weeds. Poor guy will now have two incisions.

Hello Chicks and thanks for the start Chele. Chele - what a circus with Trump in town. So much hoopla but what are all of the politicians actually doing to help diminish the potential of these types of incidences happening so frequently? How are the clogged ears doing today? I am in a substantial amount of pain still but that won't change until surgery. I have a rather large bone spur that jabs me each time the hip pivots as well as being bone on bone to the point that the top bone has now worn a crevice in the ball. Too much pain and no way to live; commuting each day is something I can't even adequately explain. I have applied to do telecommuting until my surgery as well as for intermittent FMLA since I am at my stop threshold on doing this every day. How goes things with Iggy? Linda - I hope all is going well with Micki! Zoe got her last 2 staples out yesterday so she is now cleared by the vet. We're going to start removing the donut at night for her to sleep and when she is around us so we can watch her. Lots of thunderstorms here in the evening lately making the commute home a crazy challenge. I've never gotten the pet insurance that the hospital does offer each year at open enrollment; it never struck me as really doing much for savings. I may need to rethink that. We do active shooter drills and education in the hospital on a consistent basis; we're a big target so they take everyone's safety pretty seriously. Becky - I am so sorry that the knee continues to give you pain and issues. My hip surgeon also thinks that my knee injury of late last year caused a great deal of the compensation and pressure on the left side which I am now having to handle. When all is done; he wants x-rays of that knee to see what's going on. How are Kenneth and the fur babies doing. Reiterating my sorrow over the El Paso shootings and the senselessness of all these incidents. Kathy - we are soupy today but the weather guessers are saying the next few days should be lower humidity and mid 80s which is great for August. How is BIL doing? How are you doing? Any more bear sightings? Karen - crazy about Dale's insurance but then again, insurance is a nightmare to begin with. Thank goodness you got back to land after that big swim! Sounds like you were doing the dodge the raindrops version of swimming. SM is still saying some less than stable things about not moving until September after cataract surgery. DS called me to say she told my SM's sister that and her response is that SM is moving this month! Aunt wants to take her vacation and go back to Fla. in the meantime SM is writing out all kinds of whacko checks to every scam artist you can imagine along with sharing her SS# and other things she definitely shouldn't be doing. Who knows where all this is going to end but doesn't sound promising. She spoke to me for a few minutes today and told me she's going to see her apartment tomorrow. If she doesn't like it; she stated she's not going to buy it!! Nobody is going to push her around. So the drama continues and SM's side of the family continues to demonize my DS but there's not much we can do. I need to get going to fight the forces of continuing evil ladies. Ciao for now and do be safe!!

Linda, poor Micki with two incisions. I am assuming they will biopsy both masses. When will you get the results of that? Liz, telecommuting would be great to give your body some relief from the commute. The commute is a nightmare even when you are able bodied.when is the surgery scheduled. I hope Zoe leaves her tail alone. SM seems to be getting a little confused. I hope she will be okay but it doesnāt seem like DS or you can do anything about it. How is DN doing with his studies? How is Gary doing? Iggy still hasnāt made an appointment with the GI doc. Nothing I can do about it.

Chele Thanks for the start.Yes I'm thinking about knee replacement since injections haven't worked 2 years in a row if I can find a good surgeon but it may be next year before I get serious about it.
Linda Crossing fingers Micki will be okay.I'm sorry they found another fatty tumor.
Liz Have you scheduled your surgery?I'm sorry you are in so much pain.Kenneth and the fur babies are fine.I heard on the radio news this morning the EP shooter's mom called the police before the shooting and asked if he was old enough to buy a gun but she didn't leave her name or her son's name. She could have saved a lot of heartache if she had I would think. He was living with his grandparents at the time but had left so nobody knows where he was living before he left for EP.We have had 2 days of 100 plus degrees in a row and it's already 100 and humid at 2:15.I'm so sorry for the continued family drama.
Waves to Kathy and Karen.

Liz, I hope you can work from home! I cannot imagine how you made it this far.
Two hours in surgery, two incisions and teeth cleaned, and no extractions. Micki is recovering, and they said he did fine. He comes home at five with pain meds.
We were a nervous wreck by two hours.

Chele, thanks for the start. Love the new avatar. Is that a cardinal? Linda, glad to hear Micki came through okay and hope he has a quick recovery. Two hours of waiting would be really nerve wracking. Liz, so sorry you're in so much pain. I don't know how you've been doing your commute for so long. The telecommuting would help so much, so I hope that works out. Glad to hear Zoe is doing well. It was incredibly humid here today and beyond soupy to oppressive. I haven't heard of any bear sightings lately. With those black coats, maybe they're too hot to move. Sorry for all the family drama. That's the last thing you need. BIL is doing very well. Becky, I'm complaining about the heat and humidity here, but at least we're only into the low 90s. Hope that heat breaks soon for your area. I heard about the phone call the EP shooter's mom made, but I think they told her he was old enough, so there wasn't anything they could do? I may not have heard the whole story.
Waving to Karen.

Kathy It is 103 here.We are expecting 100 plus for a week maybe 2 weeks and not a hint of rain.Feel like temp is 110.I realize they couldn't have stopped him from buying the gun but if his mom was worried about the way he was acting they could have investigated him maybe.I guess you actually have to kill people to get investigated.Geez.

Thanks for the start, Chele. Is that a rose bush in your new avatar? Yes, nothing you can do about Iggy and the GI doc, as much as you would like to. Did you have another comfortable morning? I was rather miffed that Trump badmouthed your mayor on his trip back to Washington. How long has she been mayor? I made the cucumber dill salad and it turned out very well. I'll have to post a photo of the cucumber I used. It looked much more cucumberish than the previous couple that I grew. I finally found dill at Earth Fare. Linda, good to hear that Micki did well. Good luck with the pain meds. Phoebe was always a challenge with meds and we had to resort to the "shove it down her throat" method on more than one occasion and I was the designated shover. Hope your boy will be more compliant. Do you have antibiotics as well as pain meds? Best wishes to all of you for managing two incisions. Phoebe was also one of those little tumor machines. You might remember when they found the last mast cell tumor, she also had half a dozen benign ones removed. We called her our lumpy girl. I had the same question as Chele about biopsying. I hope all 3 of you will get a good night's sleep tonight after today's major stressor. Spoiler alert,Kathy: Publix also has B&J's on BOGO this week. I got a couple Cherry Garcias. There is just enough chocolate in it to satisfy my craving but not cause me any issues. Did your weather improve today? Any damage from yesterday's hail? Liz, holy cow on the continuing drama with SM. She hasn't seen the apartment yet? DM looked for a couple of years before she found exactly what she wanted. And when she did, it was one that checked all her boxes. Do you think SM's sister can force the issue if there is push back from SM? That's so sad about her spending a fortune on scams. But she's the kind of person the scammers are looking for. I guess she'll spend every penny she has and then won't have to be concerned about leaving anything for anyone. Is any of this dementia related? Sorry the pain continues for you. Bone spurs are really painful. I had a heel one but can't imagine one in the hip. Did you have one with the other hip? If not, will this surgery be a bit more extensive than the last one? Good luck on quick approval for the FMLA. The job is stessful enough without that commute. No problem my making it back to shore yesterday and I probably could have done another 500 yds if the rain hadn't slowed me down. I had plenty of power and I was already wet. After the rain moved out, it was great. Becky, it's definitely August in Texas. I'm sure you'll have several more 100+ days before September comes. I hadn't heard about the EP shooter's mother's phone call. There's definitely more to that story, and probably a lot that we don't want to know. Sometimes the kids have a lot of control over their parents and they let the kids do things they shouldn't. This may be one of those times. Yes, she could have saved a lot of people a lot of heartache, including herself. The stigma of your son being the shooter has to be a heavy burden for her. IMO, no civilan needs an assault rifle. In fact, just today I signed and posted a link on FB for a petition asking Congress to ban assault weapons. I still can't believe Trump said "there is no political appetite" for such a ban. Talk about being in the pocket of the NRA and the gun manufacturers. I'm not anti-gun and, in fact, I own 3 handguns. But there are guns that just shouldn't be allowed. On a lighter note, my Garmin seems to be correctly recording intensity minutes. I'm up to 256 for the week and still have several days to add on. My body battery is down to 27, however, and I'm feeling it. I must look tired because Dale asked me a little while ago if I wanted him to feed Arya in the morning so I could sleep a little more. I was more stressed today but only during driving in Knoxville. I love where we live, but I would be ok with living somewhere that I could walk anywhere I needed to go or had reliable and safe mass transit. Surprisingly, my new laptop arrived this afternoon. It wasn't scheduled to come until tomorrow. It's charging now and I am doing one final docs backup to transfer to the new machine. Not looking forward to getting all the set up done. The master gardener president didn't submit anything for the newsletter again . I've been waiting for something from her since the weekend, as everything else was done. I reached out to another of our group who is responsible for a special exhibit we're doing at the fair and she had something to me within a couple of hours. So I finished up the newsletter and it's gone. I didn't read what she wrote until after the newsletter was sent out, and that's when I noticed that she is featuring my medicinal herbs and me on Tuesday evening. So I'll take some of my herbal preparations and ingredients and talk to anyone who is interested. Since I am not a clinical herbalist, I cannot diagnose and treat anything. but I'll bet a lot of the questions will be, "what could I take for ....?" I won't go there and will come up with a standard answer. Osteo went pretty well today. The machine that has been giving me fits has been resolved, I believe. Even though it works lower body, my problem seems to have been hand position on the bars. Hopefully that will immprove next week. I also stopped by Walgreens to pick up the photos I will be exhibiting at the fair. My new avatar is one of them. I'll post the others as we get near fair time.

Becky, that's just way too hot. We've been getting storms every day which is what keeps it from getting too hot here. I wasn't clear on why they didn't investigate further when the mom called or if all she asked about was the age. You would think they would at least have gotten her name.

Karen, DM and I beat you to the spoiler alert today and both got the B&J BOGO. We briefly considered splitting it, but decided to get our own. We got the light version which is really good. Totally agree with you on the assault weapons ban and I'm not anti-gun either. We have to start somewhere and no ordinary citizen needs that kind of weapon. Closing the loopholes on background checks would help a lot too. Congrats on getting the new laptop. I got an Amazon package today and couldn't remember ordering anything. Then I realized it wasn't my name or address on it! We have a new mail carrier and a lot of people are complaining about misdelivered mail.

Kathy, enjoy your B&J's. They don't have the non-dairy in a light product yet. Fingers crossed that will come. I agree on strengthening background checks is also necessary, along with "red flag" laws. LOL on the Amazon package. Was the name or address of the package even similar to yours? We actually did get an Amazon package at the other house in our name and address but it wasn't anything we ordered. It was a really nice leather messenger bag and they said keep it since it was their mistake. I looked it up on their website and it retailed for $120. We said, "thank you Amazon" and I have used it numerous times on trips. I was really shocked on the laptop because I got an email from HP this morning saying it would arrive tomorrow. So I wasn't expecting to see the FedEx guy at the gate.

Being a Texan I definitely don't believe in gun control.I don't think there would ever be a way to get all the guns back from all that are already out there. However I do believe in closing the loopholes in the background checks and Kenneth and I were both talking about how we both agreed on the "red flag" rule.I also agree that no civilian needs an assault rifle or assault weapon of any kind.

poor MICKI has stitches right in his āarmpitā that pull when he walks or tries to lie down ven with pain mds. He still won't eat even favorite stuff. Hopefully the effects of anesthetic and the shot will wear off by morning. They will call to check on him.
