Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Looks like a nice day today, just like yesterday. The National Weather Service said that a EF-0 tornado touched down on the east side of Green Bay Wedn, and traveled 6 miles. Not the destruction you see with the big tornadoes, but there was a lot of damage just the same. It seems like each storm we get this year, gets more violent than the previous one.
Robin, I think I mentioned, when I first brought up DH skin cancer, that I did google Mohs. Also the doctor was very descriptive while talking to DH on the phone about it, so DH was able to tell me all about how it would work. I was able to watch the national news yesterday, and saw all the storms out by you, that is the storm system that was here. Very violent out there, just like it was here. Oh my, I am sorry you have so much going on. I suppose with all the great places to eat there, it would be hard to pick a place to eat, good luck with your decision.
Marsha, yes, DD has talked to a nutritionist in the past. DD, her DH and the 2 grands have been into healthy eating for a few years, ever since she started getting sick. Also, when she was working at Nature's Way, there was a nutritionist and a nurse on staff, so she was able to learn a lot about eating green, and so on. Wow, that must have been so scary for your DD to be driving in that monsoon!! Did you see the video being played on Facebook? The family going over Leo Frigo Bridge when they hit that wall of water....Wow!
Pinky, sounds like you are hearing the same thing I said, about the storms getting worse each time they come thru. I am going to suggest a journal to DD. I am surprised she hasn't thought of it herself, unless she is just too busy. About her gallbladder, she still has it, I can't imagine they have not looked at it. I guess she just has to wait till the pathology is done, to see if they found anything. Hope all is going good with your DD, I bet you will be bringing the boys back with you.
Gareth, watch what you wish for, with the rain. We were starting to need rain too, so then we had those 2 storms, with the one 2 days ago being horrific. Over 2" of rain with that one, but the 7 day forecast looks really good. That is very interesting about your colonoscopy results....did you do a lot of vomiting with that? She gets that a lot too. Glad you were able to find a good way to avoid going thru all that!
Carol, the age of that cranky woman might be the reason she is being a stick in the mud. I have seen that happen, as people get older, they turn grumpy, and stay grumpy! Nothing pleases them. We too love Apple. I guess a lot of people do, as that is why the company is so big. Thank you, about DH!
Anngie, I think the 2 scope tests will cover Crohn's and all those diseases. Are you thinking about Celiac? I asked DD if they were going to look into that one, and she said yes, so I guess we just have to wait and see now, for when she goes back to her doctor for the follow up. I would not be surprised if it was Celiac. How are you doing? When do you leave...tomorrow? Have a safe trip!
Yesterday turned into a long day, as I guess I should have expected. Doctor was happy that the heart did not need a stent, that is looking good. The clot in the leg was in the stent the doctor put in a few years ago, and he had a hard time trying to dislodge it. So. they are using a clot busting drug to clear it out, which takes hopefully 14 hours to do, maybe longer. With them going thru the groin to do the procedure, and having to go to the Cath lab every day till the clot is busted, to monitor the clot, they put DH in Intensive Care, and keeping him sedated. He can not move that leg, so he has to stay quiet. I got to see him for about 20 minutes after they finally had him settled in to ICU. My goodness, they had so many IV bags and machines hooked up to him! At least he looked good, had a nice color to his face. I remember seeing my father in ICU, and he looked like he had already died! Doctor was not optimistic about DH coming home today, maybe tomorrow. I am running to the Y this morning, then when I come home to shower, I will call up there. The nurse said sometime during the morning they will take him to the Cath Lab to see how things are going, so I will go up there after that.
We were supposed to go to a Wine and Cheese bonfire Saturday night, but I had warned the couple who invited us that there was a big chance we would not be able to go, so now I will confirm with her. Too bad, as I was looking forward to it.
Have a nice day everyone....

Karen - Sounds like they are on top of dh's care so that is good.
Pedicures last night - badly needed - then a run to Target to look at a bookcase for dd for school that I saw on the website. Turned out that they did not have it assembled on the floor so we didn't get to see it after all, but dd got bogged down looking at pens at the store and I finally dragged her out and said she has to make a list of what she needs and we will shop on Monday night. She is working every day and I'm a little bit sorry I told her to take so many shifts as I don't know when she will pack.
Tomorrow we are going to take ds and gf out for an early dinner. We'll go down and meet the new kitten (that makes 3 - I hope that is the last of them), visit a bit, then dinner. DD is going down there tonight and staying over and home tomorrow as she is going to the beach with a friend tomorrow. I told her to text ds and remind him that she's leaving for school and she'd like to see him so that is what they came up with. I'm glad she will spend a bit of time with them, but I'm still annoyed with ds that he isn't available to help move her after she has always juggled her schedule to be there for him.

Now it’s in the upper 70’s. Actually, I don’t mind these temps at all.
Yes, Karen, it’s celiac disease. I know it took forever for them to diagnose it for her. It’s too bad it isn’t a one-test shows all, right? It seems DH is being taken good care of. We leave tomorrow EARLY. DH wants to leave at 4am. Oh my!
Marsha, it’s nice, though, that DS & DD are spending time together. Sometimes you don’t see much of that as they get older. Will DGF be there as well?
Pinky, any news?!
Gareth, Robin and Carol - hi and have a great weekend!

I think it's hard for siblings to get together unless they live in the same area. I only see my sisters once a year unless there is a funeral. DH hasn't seen one of his sisters since their mom's funeral 3 years ago. This sister is the oldest and she was not happy that her parents gave DH power of attorney, etc. She always liked to be in charge. Instead of accepting her parent's decision, she criticized the decisions DH made. Their mom was showing signs of dementia so she was moved to a care facility. Sister didn't think DH should do this because their mom had always said she wanted to stay in her house-that sort of thing. I don't think DH misses seeing that sister.
Marsha, when does your DD go back to school? I know the college kids are getting ready to go back. Most of the school districts around here start next week.
Karen, sounds like your DH is getting good care. I hope he gets to feeling better and goes home soon.
We are going down to DD's tomorrow. Our DS and DDIL will be there, too. We will babysit DGS while DD, DSIL, DS and DDIL go to a play, then we'll have dinner together. Looking forward to it.

Slept in a little later this morning so got a late start on my day. Funny how now sleeping in later is almost 7:00 I remember when it was a lot later in the morning. 50's overnight so a little cool walking this morning but still really nice walking weather. Listened to Distant Shores while walking and doing the laundry. Getting into it more though it's not my favorite of Kristin Hannah's books. Anngie, yes I read Firefly Lane and really liked it. Another of hers I really liked was Winter Garden.
Karen, no I didn't have any vomiting. It was the other end! Hope it's good news with DH today!

Carol - classes start the Wednesday after Labor Day but we are taking dd to move in on the 24th because she has to be there early for sorority rush. I think she has to be there by that Monday (26th) so that gives her a day or so to settle in. I was surprised to hear that one of her roommates who is not in the sorority is actually moving in a week earlier. I wonder if she has a campus job.

Carol, I agree with you. Everyone is so busy, and if you don't live right near each other, as siblings, you often don't see each other all that often. My DBIL has now moved permanently to Florida. They of course will come up here for the wedding, but other than if his sons get married, and they right now are both in NY, it will be an effort. I feel badly that I rarely see my nephews on DH's side. Now that my DM has passed away, I am not sure if they will all continue to come to me for holidays or what. If my DB will still come to the football games, and we do as well, we will see him. Now my sister spends a lot of time in NY, but we somehow don't necessarily make specific plans to see each other.
Karen, I know you researched Mohs, but I wasn't sure if your DH ever actually said what type of skin cancer he has. Sorry that your DH is still in the hospital. I guess it is a good thing that he didn't need the stent in his heart. Hopefully he will be out of the hospital soon. Sorry you might miss that wine and cheese bonfire. It sounds like it would have been a lot of fun.
Marsha, so frustrating when having to schedule things with our kids once there is a significant other involved, not to mention that it is hard anyway as they get older.
My future DDIL has celiac, as does her DM and her DS. They have learned to live with it and adapt. Some people go crazy over cross-contamination like they are going to go into anaphylactic shock, but that just doesn't happen. They would have stomach discomfort, but as long as they know what they can and cannot eat, they are fine.
Gareth, I also can't figure out how it is we used to always sleep much later. I am happy when I sleep until 7 am also, although I still don't get out of bed that early.
