Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Happy weekend! Looks like another good day, weather wise. With the temps around 80, with low humidity, it could stay this way till November, if I had my say!
Marsha, yes, you can really see how the hospital performs as a top notch team, when the patient goes into ICU. Very good care. I had wanted a pedicure before the wedding last week, but not enough time, so I did it myself, earlier in the week, and all week long I had to keep touching up the little messes I had made, doing it. At least now I can do it, somewhat, compared to when my knees were so bad, there was no way I could do that. Overall, did DD get enough hours at the lake, to make a decent amount of money? In the beginning of the season it was pretty dicey for her hours, with the crappy weather we were having.
Anngie, have a safe trip, and have a great time!!! Leaving at 4 am is what we would do too, just makes sense, and what the heck, all you would have been doing then is sleeping, right? Lol!!
Carol, thanks to the parents, there always seems to be some sort of friction/drama in families, after the parent is gone. We went thru that with my sister and myself, with my father, shortly before he passed away. It took many years for her and I to get back to being close sisters. Thank you for the well wishes! When do you leave for DD, are you leaving as early as Anngie? Have a safe trip!
Gareth, I don't know how your kids were when they were teens, but my 2 daughters, as teens could sleep till noon if we let them. Now, all those years later, they are just like us, getting up very early, and if they slept in, it would be 7 am too! I can not remember the last time I slept till 7. Maybe shortly after my surgeries, and having a lot of pain meds in my system. Not sure. I don't like being in bed that long, (wow, 7 is THAT long? Lol!!), seems like part of the morning is gone by then. It took me a long time to finally settle into Distant Shores. I was not liking the main character the first half of the book.
Robin, we can't remember what skin cancer DBIL had, as before it got bad, DBIL and DH did not talk too much. I did send Marie a message taking a rain check on that wine and cheese party, they will have perfect weather for it tonight, especially with no winds whatsoever, the bonfire will be nice. I think IF it is celiac, DD will do real good living with it, as their lifestyle has sure changed over the last few years, mostly because of her getting sick over just about anything she was eating. That was a big part of her loosing that 100 pounds. She took us to Fresh Thyme the other day, as her DH needed fresh dill, and she showed us around the store, pretty impressive! I want to get back there and really go thru it with a fine tooth comb, to see what we can switch out to a more healthy eating style.
DH got moved out of ICU yesterday afternoon. Since they took him back to the cath lab yesterday morning, he had to keep the leg still for 6 hours after. Finally at supper time they got him out of bed. He should be coming home today. With all the blood tests they do, especially for heart patients, he has been having a lot of test result notifications for his health site, so I went in there to see a few of them, and I see his glucose has gone down. Yay! That is a very good sign.
Meeting sister at the Y in a little while, then back here to shower then run to the hospital. Didn't sleep well last night, so I will be dragging by afternoon, I'm sure. Then while I finally fell asleep, I got a charlie horse. GRRR! We need to rest up this weekend, since this up coming week we have to shuttle DGS to his football clinic and back, while watching DGD. Most of it, I will be doing, as DH has doctor apts. Busy time, but easy enough to do.
Have a nice day everyone.

Checking in quick before I leave for work. As we usually do after work we'll walk. After a busy morning at work a walk is good. I'm more than ready for breakfast after that.
Karen, glad to hear DH will be coming home later. I'm sure you're both are getting sick of hospitals by now. You haven't mentioned being in pain for awhile. Does that mean it's better? Guess my sister and I were lucky that we had no problems getting along after our parents died. Everything went smoothly settling our parents estate. She wanted my Dad's cabin on the river. I didn't so she bought my half. That's the way it went with everything. Luckily anything each of us wanted the other didn't.
Safe travels to the travelers!

Karen, glad to hear DH is out of ICU. They definitely get a different level of care in there. Hope he comes home today. Yes, you do have a busy week next week taking care of the grands.
Gareth, an upside down day for you, although I know you are used to it, early meeting to cover before breakfast and walk.
Weather here looks nice today. I am planning to go to temple soon. I want to see what the summer service is like timing wise because we are having something for our DS and his fiance in 2 weeks. They do a blessing for them before the wedding.

Good Sunday morning. As predicted, we had a bit of rain overnight, it is 64, a bit warmer than yesterday's early temp of 55, and I can feel the humidity. Cloudy skies, but I think the rain is over.
Gareth, we have been having to run to the hospital so many times over the years, that it is just another place to go, like running to the store, or gas station, lol!!! My knees are doing pretty good, there is only 1 thing I still can't do, altho I try every so often, just to see if it has gotten better, which is to walk down the stairs normal. I have to put the bad knee down first, then the right down on that same step, and go all the way down that way. I try it the correct way, and it does not want to it that way yet. I am just pushing past the pain of walking on the treadmill, it is what it is, but I am done letting it stop me. You and your sister is how my 2 daughters are. That is great, and I thought I had that with my sister, but back in 06 she proved me wrong. Now that I know her other "side", I know exactly where not to go with her, like when talking to her. Which is fine, I do not care to get into arguments with her.
Robin, yes, it sure is nice getting DH home. With his 3 spots on his scalp, the doctor had him (me) put a prescription cream on the 5 spots, 2x's a day. Then he went into the hospital, so now we are playing catch up with that, but I told him last night that the 2 remaining spots look really good. I wonder what happens, as the cancerous spot is healing to almost disappearing, if in October, for the procedure, there is nothing left to show where the cancer is.....hmmmm....
DH came home yesterday, and said he could eat anything (appetite wise) so I took a small container of the Mexican Lasagna out for dinner. Not a good idea, as he got an upset stomach. At least he has anti nausea pills he can take. As I was not at the hospital when the nurse did the discharge with him, he had me look over the paperwork. Well! They are strongly suggesting a heart healthy diet!! I went over the list of what he can eat, and what to avoid......it is basically a W.W. diet, except his has to also avoid sodium! Teehee.....So as I was showing him (and throwing out!!) what he can not eat (some favorites of his) he did get defensive, and said that those were just suggestions, he doesn't have to follow it exactly!!! OK.....maybe if he followed it strictly, he might not have any more clots.....Just saying.....I dropped the subject, as he was not feeling the best, but I know I will WIN this war!!
Going to the Y in a little while, to get a mile in on the treadmill and do the weight machines, since I don't think I will be able to get there this week.
Have a nice Sunday everyone.

We had rain overnight too. I could feel the humidity in the air but it was still nice walking. Sun was trying to come out for awhile but it’s clouded over again now. Chances of isolated rain today but chances tomorrow are a lot greater. We’re invited to DS’s later. He’s doing pork on his smoker so I’m looking forward to that besides spending some time with the family. Not sure if everyone will be there or not. DS said we were getting together even if everyone couldn’t be there. Hard coordinating everyone’s schedule anymore.
Karen, glad to hear DH is home. Only so much one can do to when it comes to what other people eat. I gave up on being the food police with DH. He’s supposed to be on a heart healthy diet too watching his sodium. For the most part he eats healthy but his snacks aren’t.

Karen, I honestly have never heard of a cream that cures skin cancer, but now that I googled it, I see what they must have prescribed. Good luck, I hope it helps. I guess you will have to work on a new way of cooking with DH. A lot of times when you use other spices and cut down on the salt you can still have tasty food. Canned soups are really bad, and obviously chips. I am not surprised at all how you have to walk down stairs. I often do that too, my knees are just too weak sometimes for the normal way. Sometimes it is just that we don't want to face aging.
Gareth, so nice that you are getting together with your DS. He is so right that it is hard to get everyone together at the same time.
Today is my birthday, so we are having a food frenzy weekend. Last night I picked up fried chicken for dinner for me, DH had chicken fried steak. Funny that when I went to pick it up my friends were eating there. Long story behind it, but DH does not like to get together with them, but I wish we would have gone there instead of getting take out because we would have eaten with them. Today we went to have Chinese dim sum for brunch. That is when they wheel around small plates and steamer baskets of food, and you take what they want. The different sized dishes and the steamer baskets are each a certain price, and they mark down what you had, and add it up at the end. I am still stuffed! There is a place here on Long Island that is better than any in Chinatown or Flushing, which is an area of Queens that has become so Asian that when you drive down the streets there are hardly any signs in English. My nephew and his wife (she is Chinese) wanted to rent an apartment there, the woman wouldn't rent to them because my nephew is Caucasian. Everyone says go there for dim sum, but this place beats them I think. And, most things are not fried. Some of these places they have more fried stuff. We are going to have ice cream sundaes for dinner.
I came up for the book Montauk from the library. PErfect day to sit outside and read, nice weather here. I am loving the book so far.
