Day 42 – Practice, Practice, Practice
Beck congratulates you: You’ve learned the Cognitive Therapy skills you need to think like a thin person. She reminds you the longer you use them the more automatic they will become.
Read her “Reminders to Think Thin” on page 267.
This fits in with Carol (ProBoards) idea about she is a “thin person” and she should think and act like a “thin person.”
Describe some differences in your thinking from before you started to lose weight to now.

The first difference is I now think about my food and eating. Before I guess I did think too but it was think food, eat food without regard to quality or quantity. Now I think about the health quality of the food I eat, the quantity I eat, and if I'm even hunger. Another thing I need to think about is whether or not I'm strengthening my resistance muscle or my giving-in muscle. I'm better at not eating if I'm not hungry even though it is a "treat." I was at a soccer game today and one of the food vendors had ice cream. I briefly thought about it but had a chicken wrap and was full so I didn't think of it again. Thrilled I didn't trigger over it. (It was also $6.00 a cup which was a little rich for my wallet. But I know I still think not like a thin person mainly my problem with fear of hunger.

I think I am AWARE of and know how to lose weight then maintain but am still working on making the changes 24/7.
Some of the changes since 1984: * I drink more water * I think in food groups
* I try to get a balance of food groups in * I think in terms of meeting nutritional/calorie needs and not going over * I journal, weigh and measure (at times) * I KNOW what to do and try to think before I bite or sip then make an informed decisio <iframe style="height: 360px;"> </iframe> n no matter what

I think my biggest change in thinking is believing I can sustain these behaviors for a lifetime. I could always lose weight but never kept it off.

I agree with lani.I could always lose weight but I would always gain it back. After being scared I would gain it all back again I now have the confidence that even though I know my weight will still fluctuate I have confidence I can maintain.I am also beginning to get a little bit of the thinking I am a thin person so now I just need to eat like one.

I think the biggest differences are: 1) Thinking about food as food instead of as recreation or comfort. 2) Thinking of myself as a capable person who is able to solve problems and work toward this goal.

Thinking of myself as a capable person who is able to solve problems and work toward this goal. I'm struggling right now and need to tell myself this and believe in myself.

Beck congratulates you: You’ve learned the Cognitive Therapy skills you need to think like a thin person. I always have issues with this day because just going through the book once does not success make. I think it's a repetitive process that needs to be revisited over time. We see how easy it is to slip back into unhealthy behaviors, and it really takes commitment to both lose and maintain. I'm just blabbing to catch up since I was away this weekend, but I still don't think like a thin person enough of the time.

surfgirl, Yeah, I haven't been thinking like a thin person lately. Need to dig into Beck.

surfgirl , Yeah, I haven't been thinking like a thin person lately. Need to dig into Beck. I know! I really miss carol ann - ladymajky - during these reviews because her "like a thin person" missives were always so helpful and insightful...!
