Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Areas of fog this morning, we are one of those areas. Clearing, then storms later this afternoon. Yay, we have not had a storm since last Wed!!
Gareth, I guess your rain must be what we will be expecting later today. You could just send them to the south east of the country, I guess they are really cooking, with the temps. How was dinner? Hope more family turned out for it than less. I had to chuckle at your comment about being the food police. I have tried over the years, with DH, especially when I am following the WW program, but a person can only do so much for another person. He is trying right now, to eat healthier.
Robin, I am sorry if I lead you to believe the cream is to cure DH cancer. It is an antibiotic, since the doctor worked on those 3 spots. They are healing very nicely, with 1 of the spots disappearing, where I can't find it to put the cream on it. Happy Belated Birthday!!!! How were the ice cream sundaes? Yum!!! Did you put a candle in it, and make a wish?
Yesterday was such a nice day, I did go to the Y, walked a mile on the treadmill, then did the weight machines, I love when there is hardly anyone there. Guess early Sunday mornings are the time to go! We watched the Ice Bowl on one of the ESPN's in the afternoon, before the NASCAR race, (YAY! My boy Kevin Harvick won!!). We were chuckling all the while watching that football game, seeing all the changes, from 1967 to now, with Lambeau field, and also, just the playing of the game.
We thought we had to start babysitting today, for the whole week, but wires were crossed and we actually have off today, so I am debating going to the Y, or stay home and clean the apartment. If I go to the Y, my knees will be shot for vacuuming, so that is why I am trying to figure out which one to do. Most likely I will stay and clean.
Hope Anngie is having a great time, on vacation, and that Pinky's DD had her baby!! Hi to Marsha and Carol. Have a nice day everyone.

Foggy walking this morning. With the forecast I was surprised I was even able to but so far the predicted rain hasn’t started. Weather map shows it moving our way more each time I check it. 80% chances of rain most of the day. Just glad I was able to get my walk in. Nice time with family yesterday. It worked out that everyone was there. Food was good. DS is a good cook. For dessert we all went to 4 Queens, the ice cream place oldest DGS works at. We went about an hour before DGS was scheduled to work there so he could enjoy just being a customer.
Karen, so often our weather is the same or either coming or going our ways. I’ve often wondered about getting a Roomba but then I really don’t need one since DH vacuums.
Robin, happy belated birthday!!

I had a busy weekend. Saturday morning we went to DD's. DS and DDIL came, too. DD, DSIL, DS and DDIL went to see a production of Fiddler on the Roof at a big theater in Dallas. DH and I stayed with DGS. We had a great time. He is changing so much and learning new things all the time. Those chubby legs can move so fast. The show was a matinee so after it was over, we visited for a while, then called out of Thai food and enjoyed eating together. We left after DGS went to bed. He still goes to bed early, but he doesn't go right to sleep right away like he used to. We watched him on the monitor-he sings and talks and walks around the crib. He also threw the stuffed animals out of the crib. He never fussed and eventually went to sleep. DS and DDIL spent the night with DD.
Sunday we had church and a baby shower in the afternoon. One of the baby's grandmother used to go to the church (they moved, didn't get mad about something at church) so it was good to visit with her. Baby showers are happy occasions, but this especially so. The couple had tried for years for a baby and gone through all sorts of medical procedures with no luck. They adopted a little girl and then about a year and a half later, got pregnant and now have a little boy.
Gareth, I gave up being the food police, too. Since being on WW starting in 2006, I have been cooking healthier and don't keep some things in the house. I've noticed DH sometimes eats huge servings of things, but he is 67 years old and can make his own decisions about what to eat.
Robin, happy birthday! I see you do like we do and have a birthday sundae. A marriage blessing sounds sweet. I have never heard of Dim Sum, but not surprised since we live in such a small town. We do have a good Thai place.
Karen, good your DH is home. I hope he is feeling better.
Since we have wood laminate floors in half the house, I have been thinking about a Roomba. The floors don't get real dirty, mostly cat hair and crumbs. I mop up drips and spills. Of course, I don't know how the cats would feel about a Roomba. I don't know if they would chase it and just hide.
I was hit with a migraine last evening. The meds helped some and I was able to get to sleep last night. It is much better this morning. I slept late. I didn't have much going on today, just need to straighten up the house. Everything else can wait.

I had a nice weekend. As it turned out dd went to ds’ after work Friday and stayed overnight, had a nice visit by all accounts. And that’s the last she’ll see of him before she goes to school. We went down on Saturday afternoon, visited a bit then had dinner. They picked a restaurant which had plenty of choices for everyone and the food was good so that all worked out. We were home shortly before dark. Sunday was groceries, Target type stuff. I wanted to go see Avengers Endgame at the cheap theater but dh wasn’t into it as it is coming out on video this week, and he convinced me we’ll just rent it. He has already seen it.
Karen – once the bad early summer weather passed dd got a lot of hours. It seemed that some weeks she worked every day without a day off. So I think once it is said and done there will be enough money to pay for the horses. The lake closes on Saturday with the annual Doggie Dip. We like to buy produce at Fresh Thyme. They sometimes have really good deals. DH went there last week and came home with bags of nectarines, peaches, plums.
Robin – sounds like you had a nice birthday weekend. I’m glad you enjoyed your favorite foods.
Gareth – glad you had a nice family visit.
DD is off today so she's supposed to be going through things for school, including determining what school supplies she needs. Then after dinner we are going to pick up that stuff. We'll go to Walmart (yuck!!!), Office Max, and Target in that order until we have everything. I think we'll get almost everything at Walmart and then go to Office Max for her calendar.

Karen, that does make more sense, but when I googled it there actually did seem like there is some kind of cream that is supposed to help kill certain types of skin cancer cells, but I would be pretty skeptical of that. Glad that it is healing well. With all the issues he has you wouldn't want him getting an infection.
Carol, Fiddler is just such a great show, I am sure they loved it. And you got to spend time with DGS, so a bonus for you. I did my research, in Dallas there is a restaurant called Kirin Court that has the kind of dim sum we had. Not sure how good it is, but it's the same kind of thing.
Gareth, sounds like there were a lot of ice cream eaters yesterday, glad you enjoyed your family time.
Marsha, the summer has really flown by for DD. Although it is hard to come to terms with sometimes, sorry that your kids aren't spending that much time together. With your DS living further away, I guess it is just the way it will be.
I started reading the book Montauk yesterday, and got so sucked into it I couldn't put it down. I am half way through already, although admittedly I read for a long time yesterday, and didn't put it down until midnight. I will bet if I wasn't online I would have finished it. It is about well to do families that summer in Montauk, which is the town on the very tip of the south fork of Long Island.
Small world story I must relate. I am on a Facebook reading group with people from all over, they only talk about books they have read, whether they liked them or not. Someone mentioned The Rent Collector. One woman said that she was reading it because her granddaughter was assigned it for her 10th grade summer reading. I was amazed because I always feel that teenagers should learn about what life is like in other parts of the world so they can be thankful for what they have. I asked if she was at a public or private school, I was surprised that a public school would assign it. Her granddaughter goes to the high school that both me and my kids went to.
