This is a thread devoted to those in their 50s & 60s and beyond who don't have children or grandchildren but live rich, full lives. Please feel free to join our stroll thru life and come back often for support and to share. ************ It is International Left Handers Day. Itās funny this day came up so soon after we found out that both Karen and Dale are left handed. Only 10% of the population are lefties. Eight United States presidents were left-handed, including Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama. it seems left handedness is bipartisan.

Happy Lefty Tuesday. Becky, I am glad you can sleep. If it is hotter than 75Ā° I have trouble sleeping. My DMās two older sisters never had AC in their houses. We grew up in tiny, stuffy NY apartments with no AC and my dorm and student housing never had AC. In fact our first house did not have central air. We spent the first summer sleeping in the basement because it was one of the hottest, driest summers the area had ever had. When we upgraded the furnace for the first winter we added AC. I have been in places that are way too cold from AC. Maybe the pastor wants to keep everyone awake. Nothing like paying for a service you cannot enjoy. I hope the tech gets your satellite fixed. Linda, did you get to sleep in this morning? How is Mr Frisky? I am happy to hear he had a good check up. Karen, I use very little oil in the cucumber salad. Lemon and garlic sounds good. Do you seed the cucumber? I usually use English cucumbers so I donāt seed. We did the COBRA coverage until the new insurance kicked in. It took 3 weeks to get the paperwork from the company. Did you have a meeting last night? Kathy, I am sure you are not nostalgic about the commute or the parking lot walk. I donāt miss working one bit. Liz, now goes the week? We had thunderstorms last night and early morning. We needed the rain. I did some prep for dinner and am now headed to the recumbent bike. Have a good one.

Bob got up and fed Micki and took him for a very short slow walk. yea.
Heat and high pollution coming back for three days here..yuck. I need to get some summer survivors..vinca or portulaca for the geranium pots..now empty. So glad it gets dark around 7:30 now. Only had rain twice in over a month.

Good Afternoon Chicks and thanks for the start Chele. Happy Lefty Day to those who are! Chele - we are humid and have had showers here in the city. They are saying most of the hard rain will go south of us but I am a non-trusting weather guesser fan! Had too much pain today, probably the weather and a bit too much walking yesterday. Good news is the ultrasound on the left leg was better this morning so that's a real positive. How are the allergies doing? Gary's tomato plants are starting to do well so I will need to pick up some English cucumbers also as he loves tomato, cucumber and onion and garlic salad. Becky - i hope it cools off a bit for you but looking at the weather map is not encouraging unfortunately. Zoe's tail is almost all healed which is good and no more donut. I can't sleep in a hot room for whatever reason so I am empathizing with you strongly. Surely hope that the DISH gets fixed for you sooner than later! Linda - so glad that Micki is doing better and coming along nicely. I'm just grumpy from chronic pain and acute pain as well so working on keeping at least a neutral demeanor in work right now is a challenge. Kathy - You and Karen lose me with characters that you follow so I can't even comment . Commuting to work right now is a monster and I just want to hear from someone that my telecommuting has been approved BEFORE I have the darn surgery!! How's the family doing? Karen - SM is trying to continue to clear out her house and my sister is attempting to help her. Sister is major league annoyed as the Aunt who set all this up isn't helping at all and plans to leave and go on vacation and then back to FLA. Sis takes a nasty shot at me on the phone today and that was it for me. Some snotty comment about not being able to count on me to help. Told her yep, broken hips trump everything! Witch!! Sounds like you've made good progress on the new laptop transition. Lovely avatars all! I tend to stay away as I am fighting with all I have to keep my stuff together each day and work. I'm not a fan of being the "debbie downer". I hope you all have a safe and good afternoon and evening! Ciao for now~

Thanks for the start, Chele. You were definitely an early riser today. Thanks for the lefty wishes. I didn't realize we had our own day. When do you expect Iggy to get home? Does he have Friday afternoon off this week? We grew up without AC in our house, too. Having allergies made it even worse. Then DF suddenly developed allergies an voila--whole house AC was installed.
Becky, we have the same problem with cold AC where our master gardener group meets. Doesn't matter what time of year. Sometimes it takes me a while to thaw out after a meeting. Your recliner must really be warm in the heat with Scooter for even part of the night. I guess she enjoys being close to you more than she enjoys being hot. Like Chele, if it's too hot, I have trouble sleeping. I have the AC set at 77 during the day but 73 at night for that reason. It felt like a sauna when we walked out the front door this morning. The heat index here was supposed to be 105 and they said on the news that we haven't had this kind of heat since 2012. We were expecting storms this evening, but they came early and it's cooled things down quite a bit. We needed the rain like you do. That's really frustrating on Dish. I'll bet they have to replace your box. If they do, be sure they give you a NEW one. They are good at giving new boxes to new customers and refurbished ones to existing customers. We got stuck with one at the old house that wasn't much better than the one it replaced. Fortunately, we got a new one when we moved here.
YAY for Micki having his appetite back. I hope you can keep him from jumping around now that he's off the gabapentin. I'll bet he enjoyed his walk this morning. Did it wear him out? Good luck with replanting your flowers. I hope they will survive until the temperatures begin to drop.
Kathy, how's your weather? Is this a grocery store day? Have you started converting your vinyl to digital?
Was today a vascular doc day, Liz? Any word on when you can start to telecommute? Is Zoe back to normal yet? What dressing do you use on the tomato, cucumber, onion, and garlic salad? Pretty bizarre of your sister to think you should be helping with SM's impending move given your current phyisical situation. If I were your sister, I might be annoyed at the aunt who seems to have become absent, after making all the arrangements to this point.
I really didn't want to get out of bed this morning. Why does that happen only on days that I have to get up? I was at AF before 9, then went to Aldi and Food City and got home in time for The Price Is Right. With the heat and pending storms, Dale decided to stay in, so we are watching Season 2 of Killing Eve. Arya is a happy little camper sound asleep next to me. We had some pretty severe storms roll through about an hour ago. Lots of thunder and lightning and it poured down the rain for about half an hour. Haven't gone out to check the rain gauges, but I hope we got about half an inch so we won't have to water for a couple of days. I think the bananas are ripe enough that I should be able to make the sweet potato banana bread for the fair tomorrow.

Liz, glad that test was better. your relatives would make a good soap opera..sis expects you in your condition with that jib and commute to help the witchy aunt? hah.
On the way for plants, stopped at post office, then bank ATM, then Fryes, then Petco, then got plants!
Sorry looking selection of many turning yellow from too much watering in small containers. I got a few healthy ones and got them into pots.
Then DH activated new Visa card because they changed our number because some merchants was hacked even though nothing turned up on ours. Sooooo then he had to change number in four auto payments....and stupid password would not work on one.
Got that fixed for him and the last account on phone said new number did not work. So I went to Sprouts on the corner for a couple things...it did work. the idiot on the phone did not put in our E mail right...could not seem to understand āatā. is @.Who does not know this? Back into hot car... Then I remembered I was supposed to pick up Micki's regular meds...and the Oravet dental chews they sold us upset his stomach and needed to go back. They also turn pooh a nasty shade of green! They have something in them that is used in human mouth wash but is not swallowed by people. swapped them for Hills TD food...big chunky dry stuff created to clean teeh as it is chewed. they gave us a sample to use for treats when his teeth were cleaned. So we have treats for a long time with that bag of food!
By now it is 110 and I am heading for the shower!

Chele, thanks for the left handed start. That is funny that it came up so soon after finding out about our lefties. It's been rumbling around all afternoon, but we didn't get much rain here. I think it hit some other areas today.
Linda, glad to hear Micki is out walking even for a short one.
Liz, that's great on Zoe and the ultrasound on the left leg. I hope your telecommuting kicks in soon. I had a hard enough time with my own commute and can't imagine doing yours on a daily basis. I never watched 9-1-1, so didn't know the characters Karen was talking about either! Family is doing fine at the moment. DM's 90th birthday is coming up in November. Wow on that nasty comment and good response. Please don't feel you have to stay away. Sometimes it helps to vent and we are always here to listen.
Karen, the house I grew up in had AC, but most of our schools weren't air conditioned. I went to a new high school that had AC, so that was nice. I've mentioned before that I chose my dorm at FSU since it was the only air conditioned one at the time. I did not regret that decision! Most of the classrooms weren't air conditioned. I think you're right that people aren't used to being out in the heat anymore. I usually keep my AC set at 77 or even 78 this time of year since it's running so much. No groceries today and no vinyl to digital yet. I will need to download the software first and just haven't gotten around to it. Killing Eve is a roller coaster ride!
Becky, wish I could send some of our rain your way.

Thanks for the start Chele.Kenneth is a lefty but not by choice. After his stroke several years ago his right hand was affected so it's just easier for him to eat with his left hand.I try not to freeze Kenneth out because he gets too cold and sometimes get cramps in his hands or legs. It's different I think when you just have a window unit rather than central air.I have it on 77 right now and it's still 84 in the house. It is 101 outside so that makes a difference too and that's down 3 degrees from the high. When I lived at home we didn't even have a window unit until I started working at DPS and still living at home. Our house was too broken up in where all the rooms were located for central and my dad would have never spent the money anyway.
Liz Good to hear from you.I'm sorry you are still in so much pain. When do you get to start telecommuting. You are right. The weather is not encouraging. We haven't had any measurable rain in about 1 1/2 months. It did get up to 104 with a heat index of 110.I am glad Zoe's tail is doing so much better.I can't believe how your sister is acting. You can't and shouldn't be helping with the move.
Karen In this heat and humidity it doesn't take long to thaw out after church.By the time we get in the hot car it's no longer too cold.If I had the window unit on 73 Kenneth would freeze.Until today I wasn't sure the problem was the Dish box but while recording one of my shows the remote finder came on the screen and the green light on the DVR went completely off so I had to hit the red reset button inside and at least the box is still working. We have to wait until 8/23 for them to come though.
Kathy I wish you could send us some rain too.
