Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Wow, we got up at around 5:40 am, and it was at tad dark out yet!! It was a bit cloudy, but that shouldn't have made it that dark...a sign of things to come! Not real warm, high of around 76 today, but I can feel the humidity.
Gareth, we never did get that rain yesterday. It actually looked like it was coming, but never came thru. 4 Queens...is that a local place, or a variation of Dairy Queen? I laughed out loud about not needing a Roomba, since you have DH to vacuum!!!! I gave DH a break yesterday and did all the vacuuming, since he had the leg worked on, I feel he should be resting it. He did the steam cleaning of the 2 bathrooms and the kitchen floors, which are that wood laminate.
Carol, I would SAY you had a busy weekend!!! Whew! I was tired just reading what you all did! But a happy busy, right? Why does that always seem to happen, where the couple does everything to have a baby, doesn't work, they adopt and then she gets pregnant? You hear so many stories of that happening. Do you, with being on WW since 06, do you switch to the new programs when they come out?
Marsha, I was shocked to see the schedule this morning, on TV of when the aquatic parks in town are closing, then you mention the lake! Once summer finally arrived, it has flown by! Now you and your DD are planning her back to school shopping. See, the thing about Fresh Thyme is that it is so out of our way...you just reminded me that I wanted to get back there, but so far I haven't. Maybe today. I love going into a grocery store and you can smell all the good things. One thing I hated about Festival in Suamico, as you walk by the seafood counter, you can smell the fish, and I HATE that fishy smell! So I always avoid that area.
Robin, DH spots have healed nicely, but now yesterday I see one is trying to come back. Weird! He sees his Derm doctor Thursday. Today he sees his back/neck doctor. That book sounds so familiar, I will have to check and see if I read it.
We went thru the whole apartment yesterday cleaning. I wore my phone in my pocket, to track steps on my health app. I did over 1 mile! I love that that app sync's to WW app. I did end up earning 2 Fit Points, which for doing housework, I feel is pretty good. We are meeting my DB for lunch, after we drop the grand kids off, so I will have to do what you all advised me to do, go on the app and look for a place that has like food. I should be able to pull up Culver's and use them. Marsha, we are going to Drift Inn. Have you ever been there? Their burgers are better than Kroll's, who have gone way downhill.
Have a nice day everyone.

Karen, it always amazes me when I am holding my phone and it counts steps. Sorry that your DH is still having trouble with the spots healing. Is that the one that needs the Mohs? I don't think you read the book Montauk, it's brand new. It came out in June. Is that the one you were talking about, or was it The Rent Collector? That one has been around quite a while, it was on my TBR list for a long time, but I never ended up reading it until recently.
It just started pouring here. I knew it had rained during the night, and it looked like it could start again, but it is really coming down. I will wait a while to leave I guess.
At work I am trying to keep DS on track for what he has to remember to do before the wedding. He will be on his honeymoon for 2 weeks, so want to make sure all the important things are off his plate.

Did it again. Forgot to switch the dryer back to heat after fluffing my BR rug Sunday. Hate when I do that. Sheets were still wet when i went to take them out and remake the bed which I wanted to get done before breakfast. It's thrown my whole morning off. As usual I walked first thing. Before I left I threw the sheets in to wash. Came home and threw them in the dryer and started another load. Cloudy morning but rain isn't predicted. We did get rain yesterday morning shortly after I got home from walking. It rained until early afternoon. It was a nice, steady rain until early afternoon. We need more since it was only a little over a 1/3" I finished Distant Shores while I walked this morning. Glad it's finished. It wasn't bad enough to quit. Just not my kind of book. Too predictable and syrupy. Now I've started another thriller Don't Ever Tell. It has good reviews but hasn't grabbed me yet.
Karen, 4 Queens ia locally owned similar to Dairy Queen.
Robin, trying to remember when DS's wedding is? Thinking it must be coming up soon.

Karen, I love Fiddler On the Roof. I first saw it when I was in college and they did an excellent production. We saw it in Dallas quite a few years ago. Hershel Bernardi was Teyve. Our town's little theatre group did it, too. It was okay. They tried to do Russian accents. Tried, but couldn't pull it off and that distracted from the story. DH and I used to tease the kids and tell them we were going to stand up during their weddings and sing Sunrise, Sunset. Thanks for the name of the Dim Sum place. I will look it up and pass it on to DD.
Is Fresh Thyme like Whole Foods?
Karen, I haven't been on WW the whole time since 2006. For the first year and a half or so, I was a member on-line. After that, I didn't pay, but kept tracking my points on paper. I don't remember what the program was called, but I figured points out with calories, fat and fiber. Even with all the changes, that was the system I used. I have a couple of WW cookbooks that give point values. I have looked up the program on line and I know it has changed a lot. You can find point calculators on line. If I feel like I need to lose a little, I just cut back. When I have been on a food frenzy as Robin called it, I am more careful and use one of the on-line calculators.
My DH never vacuums, but he changes the litter box. I feel like that is a fair trade. I have noticed when DH is out of town I do things he usually does-the litter box, taking trash out, etc., but when I'm gone which doesn't happen much, he does not dust or vacuum or really clean at all. I don't think it is that he doesn't want to do it, but that it never occurs to him to do anything like that.
My migraine finally went away. It hung on longer that usual. If I was still working, I would have taken a sick day yesterday.
I need to shorten a couple of pair of new pants I got at Kohls. Depending on the brand, sometimes I'm a petit and sometimes those are too short. That was the case here. I had to get regular and shorten them.

As we were getting ready to go out for school supplies, dd got a message from her sorority about 2 of the days of rush and what they need to wear. One was black pants and a black top or a black jumpsuit, and one was a white skirt. Neither of which she has. She has a black jumpsuit with white pinstripes and they said no. I don't so much mind that they have guidelines for what the girls wear, but I resent getting this information with only 2 weeks before they go back to school, especially when it involves something white. Last year she found out she needed a white dress for initiation after she pledged, which was September, and ended up with a horrible dress she bought online which was really too small for her on top. Her sorority sisters weren't helpful when they suggested that Nordstroms has a lot. Hello??? Nordstroms doesn't have stores everywhere. And they are pricey. After Walmart and Office Depot we went to Marshall's and she found a really cute black jumpsuit that even I liked (and I'm not a fan of jumpsuits having lived through the 80's when they were popular). And she found a white denim skirt online. Crisis ended. But we will see if there is something better. I doubt we will find something better than that jumpsuit at the $24 price we paid for it.
Karen - This morning's weekly lifeguard training session was at the Pancake Place. Clearly the season is winding down. I feel like I have been to Drift Inn. Or maybe just driven by it.
Robin - where is ds going on his honeymoon?
Gareth - reading your post reminded me I forgot to throw the towels from the wash into the dryer this morning. Shoot. If I remember at lunch they should be ok but if I forget I'll have to rewash them.
Carol - Fresh Thyme reminds me of Sprouts which they have near my mother. I don't know if that is a national chain. We don't have a sprouts. I remember the fat and fiber program. I think that was the program I lost on when I first joined.
I blew my top at dh again this morning. I pointed out that there is nowhere for us to "stage" dd's things to load the car and I have nowhere to organize and repack things because of the mess. He started to focus on a few of my things of course, and I lost it at him. When I left for work he was working on reorganizing. I think he has learned that my fuse has gotten rather short with regard to these things.
At lunch I am taking dd for a dental procedure. Tonight I think I'm going to drag all of the kitchen items we have for dd, sort them, and weed through them. I think we have too many pans and plates so rather than take them all we can limit them and make a bit more room for other things. I also need to wash them before she takes them with. DS and gf have given her a lot of their hand me downs as they've replaced things and not everything looks terribly clean.
I got a library notice this morning that The New Girl came in. I'm excited to start it. I had been dragging my feet on starting the Cormoran Strike hoping that The New Girl would show up. I have to try to remember to grab my kindle when I stop home to pick up dd so I can start it while waiting at the dentist. Still listening to the first Mitch Rabb which is very good.

I hate when that happens, either when I forgot to change over the things to the dryer, or I forget to turn on either one, or even when I don't take the things out of the dryer. I have done any combination of these things.
Marsha, I admit that $24 is something that you probably will not beat. I would think that she could wear a jump suit again, they are popular again now.
Carol, years ago when my kids were young Hershel Bernardi was in Fiddler at a local theater and we went. Then our high school was doing it, so I took them. They thought the kid who played it at the high school was better than Hershel Bernardi, which I thought was very funny. They were pretty young. Glad you got rid of your migraine.
I am also between a petite and regular in pants, at 5'4". Sometimes a petite is OK, but other time I don't have enough height in the crotch. Then it always requires shortening. I am happiest if I find cropped pants in a regular, because then the length is perfect.

Hi Friends---Our DGS arrived this past friday August 9th right before noon so I have been up at DD's since Friday and enjoyed my time with them and getting aquainted with our new little guy. He weighed 8lbs. and 1 oz. and was 21.5 inches long. All went well and everyone is home doing fine. Just getting into the groove of a new baby in the house. DGS's love their little baby brother and want to hold him all the time. I cooked up a bunch of meals for them before I left so they can just enjoy this first week at home. DSIL coaches HS football and so practice started for that yesterday and then school starts next week on Wednesday so DD and baby will have the daytime to bond and get their routine together. She has 3 months off of work. We are feeling so blessed to have a healthy new GS.
I have read the last few days posts and looks like everyone is pretty much in their same routines. I am passing on the personals today as I need to get myself caught up on being gone. DH and DS#1 are in Alaska fishing now so I have through Sat. night to myself. I am going through some stuff and reorganizing and just enjoying some time to myself. I also need to catch up on yardwork and get things in order as we have our annual appreciation and test plot supper for our customers next week on Wednesday evening. Cannot believe it is already that time of year again. YIKES!!!!
I have been listening to The Rosie Project which I still am not getting into and California Girls by Susan Mallery. I am enjoying California Girls but more of a chick flick kind of book but find myself wanting to listen to that one where I don't have to concentrate to hard on it. I would give it 3 1/2 stars at this point and I think I have 10 chapters left.
Good to be back with you gals!!

Pinky, congrats on the new DGS, sounds like everything is working out for all. California Girls is a mindless book, but I liked it for what it was. I really liked The Rosie Project, but not sure if I would like listening to it.
