Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Cloudy, and cool, but high should only be 72. Temp was cool yesterday too.
Robin, DH gets the 3 spots checked today, so hopefully the doctor will say they are ok for now. I guess I did not read Montouk. It sounded so familiar tho. Did you get more rain last night? They were showing on the national news last night some rain traveling to you all out east. Yes, I too am wondering the wedding date. That happens to me when we hear about the date of something, and then forget it. (Sorry!) You are just about my height, I lean towards 5.3 and a half. Sometimes it is 5.3 even. I used to be 5.4 and a half. Sure wish I could have that back, lol.
Gareth, do you wash the rug first, or are you just fluffing it? I just washed our rugs on Monday. But 2 of them are white so I always feel they need the washing, but would love to not wash them so much. I agree about Distant Shores, I was going to give up on it, but stuck it out. I felt the woman was just to self centered, especially during the first half of the book. I have a couple of Beach reads, but they are boring, so I spent a lot of time on Overdrive last night trying to find a more meaty book. Gave up, as I was getting tired.
Carol, I think you meant to put Robin's name in the first comment, instead of me, but that is fine, I figured it out right away. The way you are with WW, is kind of like I am. I get into it with both feet, and after so long my dedication dies out. But even when not on the program (which ever one is current), my sub conscious is aware of what WW laws I am breaking. I think I originally started with the WW, was back in 2007, with meetings. Eventually I switched to just online. I tried meetings off and on over the years, but was always put off with how the leaders let one customer dominate the meeting. I have the same problem with pants, but am no good sewing, so it is work finding pants that fit correctly.
Marsha, what would your DD do without you? Reading all your stories about getting her ready for school every year, has me wondering how my DD1 will handle her oldest daughter (age 12) get ready every year, when the time comes, as DGD was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome. Who knows, maybe she won't be able to go to College. The Drift Inn is on Ashland, right as you come into DePere. We were meeting at 12:30, and as usual at that time the place was packed. By the time all of us gabby sibs left, the place was just about empty. How is DD mouth?
Pinky, congrats on the precious new little guy!!! I have been having the maternal urge to hold an infant, can I drive out and hold him, lol!! Nice size too! School does not start here till the day after Labor day, so I was surprised that DGS had the football clinic this week. He looked so cute in his cleats!! Can't wait to go his games, when he was in cross country last year, we were able to go to a few of them, and it was so much fun yelling and screaming him on!
The place we went for lunch yesterday is known for their excellent food, especially their butter burgers. I have gotten away from ordering hamburgers, if there is a healthy cooked chicken sandwich on the menu. So I was happy to see they did have it on their menu. Lol, it sure was good, but it was a butter chicken sandwich, so I had to add some points to it. (It was very very good!!)
DH is waiting, from his consult with his back surgeon yesterday, to get scheduled for an MRI. Then the doctor will decide what to do, to get rid of the pain DH has in his back/neck. DH will be doing the babysitting/driving chores today, so I can go to the Y, then do grocery shopping. Took a long time getting to sleep last night so hoping it doesn't affect my workout.
Have a wonderful day all.

Karen, cloudy and cool here too this morning. Higher 70's for us today. Heat and humidity come back this weekend. I was just fluffing the rug like I always do every Sunday morning. It doesn't need washed every week.
Pinky, congratulations G-ma! Maybe (probably!) you've already said but I don't remember the baby's name.
Marsha, it doesn't seem like it's been a year already that you were getting DD ready for school and here it's that time again already.
Robin, I'm a little shorter than you but like you I get cropped pants in regular too instead of petite because then the length is perfect.
Carol, glad you finally got rid of your migraine.
Cool walking this morning and a little breezy. Perfect walking weather. Gotta think about getting ready for work now.

Thank you everyone for the congrats on new DGS---I am so love with him, my heart is full. So thankful for a healthy baby.
Karen---keeping my fingers crossed for a simple fix for your DH after the results of his MRI come back. You certainly are having your hands full with him right now--he is lucky to have you! Yes you can certainly get your baby holding fix here, but guessing you can get something closer--LOL!! I always think the perfect volunteer job I could get when I get old( well older) is to hold the babies in the nursery at the hospital. Guessing that is pretty much a thing of the past with the babies pretty much sharing the room with the parents now days.
Gareth---I don't think I did mention his name earlier but it is Crue. A little unusual but I guess it is becoming quite popular and I do know of another little boy with that name however they spell it Crew. I guess it is a toss up on which way to spell it but DD and DSIL thought that it looked more like a name to spell it Crue when you sign a card and it ends with "and Crew"---like who else is in your bunch. I guess this is what Chip and Joanna Gaines named their new baby boy.
Getting close to the end of California Girls and am enjoying it----like Robin says it is a mindless read which I am liking right now.

Karen - my bff's oldest has Aspergers and he did great at college. He had his EOP (is that what they call the accomodations information) which he was able to bring to campus with him and they arranged housing that met his needs and he did very well. Graduated in 4 years and now he lives in Manhattan and works as a film editor of some kind. So that won't stop your dgd. Football starts before school. I think they usually have a game the weekend before class starts.
Gareth - I'm probably the same size as you - 5'2-3/3" - but I must have long legs because short is too short for me. I need regular. DD wears longs which are hard to find in the store so she usually orders her jeans online.
Pinky - I have never heard the name Crue. I know he will grow up to be a strong and independent man with that name to carry him into life.
I started The New Girl. Barely.

Pinky, congratulations on your new grandson! Aren't they just the best? I miss cuddling our DGS. He is a year and a half old and doesn't slow down long enough to let us cuddle, sometimes we can get a little hug. I like the name Crue and I agree with you on the spelling. It's unusual, but not weird. My DD said there is a baby in DGS's swimming class whose name is Axel. I thought that was really different and a little odd.
Marsha, glad you found a jumpsuit for DD. I remember them from the 80s. I liked them until I had to go to the bathroom. Nothing like stripping in a public bathroom.
Karen, you were right, I meant Robin. I used to sew a lot. My mom insisted that all 3 of us learn. Only one sister has kept up with it and she mostly quilts. I'm not sure how much money sewing clothes saves. The fabric, pattern, etc. cost so much more than they used to so I think the cost is about the same if you just buy something, especially when you can find things at a deep discount at department stores. I can do simple repairs or adjustments. Hemming pants is pretty easy.
I never went to WW meetings, just not my thing. My DD and a friend both went to the meetings. They felt the meetings made them more accountable-a "to each their own" thing.
Yesterday we had a thunderstorm. We got an inch and a half of rain. Some parts of town had high winds. The college where DH works lost power and had to cancel Tuesday evening's classes. DH was supposed to have a dinner meeting which was cancelled, but the food was already there so they went ahead and ate. After that DH drove around to campus to see what the damages were. I think that is probably the best kind of meeting-eat and leave, no speaker.
I just read a YA book, The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen. She writes a lot of YA books. It was typical-girl has boyfriend, meets someone new, which does she choose?

Carol - I used to sew but stopped when dd was little. I remember going to the store for a Halloween costume pattern. We were at Walmart back when Walmart still had a sewing department, and we had to walk through the costumes to get to the patterns. I realized I could buy a costume for about half of what it would cost me to make one, and while it would last a lot longer if I made it, I only needed to get through one night so what was the point? After that I did very little sewing. The kids used the sewing machine when they had a unit in art that required them to make pillow and I occasionally mend something.

Haha Marsha, my most recent (32 years ago) sewing project was a clown costume for my DS to wear for Halloween. My sister decided we should make them for the kids. It was adorable, but when it was all finished it turned out that I sewed the zipper in backwards. It was OK, but I had to reach in to pull it up.
Karen, I was going to say something similar, but Marsha already told you. We have friends also who have a son with various learning disabilities, and I would not be surprised if he really does have Aspergers as well. We don't really discuss it, but we have gone on cruises with them, so I am pretty familiar with him. There are a lot of colleges that have special programs and will supervise her more than another child, and she can do great. I am not going to say most with Aspergers, because I don't have statistics, but many tend to be very bright in certain fields, but not necessarily all. If you read The Rosie Effect, the male character has Aspergers. The book is a favorite of mine, which reminds me, I just bought The Rosie Result, the 3rd in the series, and I am looking to read something a bit more mindless now.
Gareth, nice that you had good walking weather.
Pinky, glad you are enjoying your alone time. They left for Alaska already, right?
Carol, that is a lot of rain! We did not have rain yesterday, but today it started to rain just as I went out with the dog. It's been off and on since then.
Had a busy day today, stressful, emotional too. I met people at dm's house so they could empty everything out. DB took what he wanted, I kept a few things they couldn't take the past few days. I was there from before 9 until close to 1, then went into the office. Trying to stay on top of DS before the wedding and honeymoon. The wedding is August 31st, but we are taking Friday off too. He is going for a few days to Kenya for a safari, they will spend 2 nights in Nairobi, one before and one after, then go to Mauritius, which is a resort island off the coast of Africa. They are leaving on Sept 2nd. I did get to read 40 pages of my book club book. It's not long, only 326 pages, so I should not have a problem finishing, but it is not one that is going to suck me in. Tonight we are having left over meatloaf in sandwiches for dinner. I used 93% beef, so not a lot of points. I am like you Karen, I always think about WW, even when I am not counting and tracking.
