Vinaigrettes can perk up more than just salads. Use them to marinate meats before grilling or drizzle over corn for a surprise finish.
23 W
Wax beans are a stunning companion to regular green beans. Look for yellow and purple varieties for a modern rendition of your three-bean salad.

Ximenia is the plum-like fruit you’ve probably never heard of. Halve it, grill it, and serve it with ice cream.
QUESTIONS: 1. Comments/thoughts on any of the above? 2. FUN: What kind of shoes do you wear in the house? and/or What kind of sandals do you prefer?

Vinaigrette: I want to go back and look at some of the ideas. I have seen it used to marinate chicken before baking in the past and local potato salad uses lemon/garlic/olive oil rather than mayonnaise.
Waxed Beans: Don't see them here and not sure I have ever actually eaten them.
Ximenia: Something new to me...our wild plums are not like the ones in the photos.
FUN: In the house I usually wear my croc thong/flip-flops becauseu they are spongy on the marble floors. When I go out I have some Birkenstock sandals and some by Taos (I think) that have a strap over toes (wide one) and around the ankle - velcro closing so adjustable on the Taos ones.
PERSONALS:
RENE: Your watermelon with pomegranate and greens sounds yummy! We have pomegranate molasses I add to salad dressing sometimes...yummy! My sister made panzanella one time and I thought it was delicious! As for leaving diet mentality behind...I am trying to do the same and saw some interesting charts on calorie density that I shared on the general message thread...am thinking that is the direction I will go...kind of plant based and volumetrics and Mediterranean and all in one big wrap.
BEVERLY: My mother tried over and over to learn to swim but never did. I can see why you would stay away from water! You might want to try the panzanella recipe Rene shared yesterday to use up some of your tomatoes! Google upside down cakes...see if there are healthier versions. There must be!
CHERRY: Master gardener that you are I am sure you will be able to figure out a way to grow tomatoes indoors over the winter! Cherry...am thinking you are intrepid...teaching yourself to swim the way you did!
JAN: We are near the end of the first tomato crop season and waiting for the second. I may google for a healthier upside down cake recipe.
JUDY: I like pasta primavera (fresh tomatoes, balsamic, etc), too. My father always sprinkled sugar (not salt) on his tomatoes and cottage cheese so I did, too. You could take swimming lessons now?!?!?!
PAM: It seems you are in the majority not knowing how to swim - at least in this group! Estes Park sounds familiar...hmm...

I like the vinegar dressings, though, sometimes I find them a little overwhelming. Marinating meats with them, is something that I have done in the past. The vinegar acts as a tenderizing agent. Very good.
I usually add the wax beans to my bean salads. They add color & a very mild taste.
Ximenia, I have never heard of this fruit. Would like to try it, I will have to look it up.
FUN: In the house, I usually just wear those slipper sock things, sometimes the ballerina house shoes. When I have to step outside, I change into crocks most often.

I like vinaigrettes on salads. I often use just olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I've used Italian dressing for a marinade for meats, but I'm sure some vinaigrettes would be just as good.
I like wax beans too as well as green beans. I like them mixed with green beans and cooked, either in salads or just to eat as a vegetable side. Purple beans turn dark green when cooked but they are good too.
I've never heard of ximenia either, but it would be interesting to try. I suppose it could be found in a specialty or international market in a large city. I'll have to keep an eye out if I ever get to one of those types of markets.
I usually wear slipper socks around the house, or go barefoot. As far as sandals go, I have a pair of slide in sandals with wide crisscross straps across the front part of the foot that I wear outside in the summer.

If I were making it I would cook the potatoes (not sure if you are supposed to peel then cook or cook in peel, let them cook and then peel) in the amount I wanted to serve and chop into bite size at some point. The dressing is what one always uses on Lebanese food...peeled garlic and salt pounded in a mortar with a pestle till fine and to this you add equal parts lemon juice and olive oil. Add salt and pepper to taste. When I cook "diet" I use a tsp olive oil per person and lemon juice to taste.
I did find a recipe or two that might give better details:
Also...the fried potatoes with cilantro, garlic and lemon are to die for! They also make a harra (hot) fried potato
There are more versions of all these recipes and they vary from family to family and village to village.

I like using vinaigrettes, but usually get too impatient to marinate something as long as it should be. Or else too long.
I don't like wax beans so not something I eat.
Never heard of that fruit or even seen it in a market. Cathy, where do you hear of these things
Around the house i am usually bare food or in slip on shoes. I keep a pair of clogs just outside the door into the garage in case I need to go outside. Our family moved to a farm when I was in 8th grade and you never went outside barefoot- no telling what you might step on outside.

I enjoy vinegarettes as my dressing of choice.
Ximenia i’ve Not heard of or seen one. The only wax beans I eat are in multi bean salad.
I wear flip flops around the house.

I'm interested in the idea of using vinaigrette on cooked vegetables (like the corn that the hint mentioned).
Wax beans - haven't eaten them for a long time. Growing up, we grew green beans and wax beans (along with lots of other vegetables). We just called them "yellow beans".
Have never heard of a Ximenia.
Usually wear crocs around the house.
