Happy Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gras, and Paczi Day!!! Who is going to celebrate by throwing all points to the wind and picking back up tomorrow? I will admit,I DID have a filled doughnut this morning (you can't get REAL Paczki here in Indiana). But I plan to be good the rest of the day! The big dog is still feeling blah. Feeding him chicken and rice to help. At least he hasn't escaped anymore! Poor thing! I hope you all have a GREAT day!

Good morning all. DebDoesWW, hope they figure out what's wrong with your car...and hope it's not too expensive to fix! I've never had paczki and am glad they don't sell them here. I've seen a few posts on fb about semlor/semla. OMG, they look so good but I don't recommend googling them Hope everyone has a good day!

No Mardi Gras celebrations here. I did enough damage Saturday and Sunday nights. Spending the week doing damage control. I have a waste of time meeting this morning with a payroll company. We have no plans to change companies. I am accommodating a former coworker who is now head of the NJ Restaurant and Hospitality Association. Blah!

Good morning! I met my new doctor yesterday and I really like her. (my family doctor, whom I've gone to for 35 years, is retiring) The new doctor is young, professional, informative and a former WW member! We talked about weight maintenance and I mentioned I'm struggling with the scale creeping up. She suggested I do strength training to jump start my metabolism. Any of you do this and can you give me some recommendations? I go to the gym and work the weight machines but I don't really have a plan. I should schedule some time with a trainer but I'm not overly impressed with the ones at my gym. pbnj I know you take a lot of classes at your gym; are you doing strength training with weights? Happy Fat Tuesday everyone. neen, I've never had a Paczi! DebDoesWW Hope your car gets fixed soon. I've been using the A/C in my car for weeks!

lmenglish thank you for the dinner idea! Have fun passing out beads so cute ๐ Yay linda72 glad it went so well! So hard to find a good doc. Lots of great books/info for strength training routines for us mature women out there. Google will pop up millions of hits. I used to take a spiral with me with the list of what to do and used that as a guideline. Try a session or two with one of the trainers and ask specifically for one that works with women. Write down the routines and reps as you go. Good luck and don't overdo it!

linda72, many years ago my NP recommended the book Strong Women Stay Slim by Miriam Nelson. She has another one called Strong Women Stay Young. You could probably get them from your library if you're not sure about buying them. I once went to a gym that had great personal trainers, but now, not so much. If your gym has free sessions, it's worth a shot though. I've been lifting weights for years but prefer to use mostly free weights with a few machines for variety. Good morning, no celebrations here, either. I'm working too hard to make some changes to think that I need to spiral off at the moment. My celebration will be lunch with B & D before my acupuncture appt today; we're trying a local salad chain, "Sweet Greens". I've eaten at one before, but this one is new. Linda, I'm so glad that you liked the new doctor. I've done consistent strength for a couple of years now, after fighting it for a long time. When the ortho doc told me it was the best thing I could do for my knee (along with keeping my weight off) I signed on. I have some at-home exercises I can do with light weights, but truly, making the circuit of the weight machines is my favorite; I'm already planning to get a gym membership in the next month, I miss my Y in Salem. Be prepared for a little bump in your weight when you start, but it will eventually go away...any time I have ever slacked and started again, it happens. But the plus is that I look leaner than I did in photos now compared to when I made goal, and we're just talking a 5-6 pound difference, so I truly am a believer. Everyone have a good one! I love what pamthomas46 said yesterday about staying focused on moving forward. Thanks, 100gone...will look at the site! I remember when that book was all the rage, too, but I wasn't a believer then.

linda72 does your gym offer Body Pump? It's a good class and works all the muscle groups. I try to do it 2-3 times a week. If classes aren't your thing, see if your gym offers a personal trainer and sign up for a few sessions. They can show what will work best for you.
