Thinking Mistake #4: Emotional Reasoning
You think your ideas are true even though objective evidence says not.
"Since I feel like a failure for having strayed, I really must be a failure."
"I feel like I just have to have something sweet right now."
How are you doing with your emotional reasoning?

I have a hard time coming up with an example of this for me. I'm sure I do it. I guess my example would be when I think I can't do this forgetting all the time I've spent doing this. Although that could also be all or nothing thinking.

I had written out information and thoughts, hit the wrong button and it disappeared.
I found three interesting articles that gave a bit more insight into emotional reasoning:
Emotional reasoning is not based on facts Emotional reasoning is based on how you FEEL not what you see or can deduce or truly know to be fact Emotional reasoning is related to past experience
Emotional reasoning can be proven true or false by reasoning and fact checking
I am not sure if I do this or not. It is not easy to come up with specific examples for this one...that is for sure!

cathygeha, good article. My tendency is to view everything that goes wrong as somehow being my fault. I know this is BS, but it will always be my knee jerk reaction, and I have to be on guard against it. Interestingly, DH's view is it's always someone else's fault. I think this is a male vs. female mindset, to some degree.

I am not sure if I assume it is my fault or someone else's fault or the roll of the dice or just IS. I think it is interesting that there is a difference in how people perceive issues and such.
