Good morning Chicks,
Stopping in to check on everyone. Had a busy week with work and preparing for surgery next week. Working from home is definitely much better and easier on my body at this point, I just wish I had done it sooner.
Need to go back and catch up on your posts. Hope everyone is doing well. We are almost like an autumn morning this morning, temps dropped and we should only see a high in the mid to upper 70s. Much nicer to walk the pups this morning without a doubt. Will be back shortly!

Wow, quite a week for you gals. Linda - how is the lower half feeling now? Keflex is pretty effective usually so hoping it does the trick and doesn't cause you more issues. So glad that Micki had his stitches out and can now appropriately cuddle with momma and guard the house from those forces of evil. Thank goodness the temps dropped down a bit; can't imagine those triple digits over 110 for any length of time. I took French in school which did me no good in business. I speak passable Spanglish but there are so many dialects and we are so diverse that the Spanish to those who speak it can be difficult to understand. Becky - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! Here's hoping you have a wonderful day and that those triple digit temps back off for a bit. I am enjoying the autumn like weather of this morning but doubt it will last too long. Scooter knows the deal and seems to be handling the heat well. Zoe freaks out with thunder but Wally just looks at her like she's a kook. Will work at the hospital Mon. and Tues. then home on Wed. and surgery on Thurs. Just want to get it done and find my way back to feeling some sense of normal again. Sounds like you're still having adventures with the Garmin. I have yet to set up my Alta HR as each time I go to do so, something comes up and I can't seem to concentrate. Kathy - my DN is home from Anguilla until right after Labor Day I believe. It was great to hear his voice when I called my DS and he picked up the phone. How's DM doing? Are you doing anything for the labor day weekend? Chele- how goes it with Iggy and the foods? Do you think he will stick to the modified diet he needs to keep him on track? I get teased by my Jersey family telling me I sound like a New Yorker and NYers tell me I can still sound like a Jersey girl. I do a mean Brooklynese when annoyed ! Just trying to tie up some ends and get the house ready for next week. SM is now in her new apartment but isn't answering her cell and doesn't have a landline yet. The family is still being their fairly obnoxious selves so I am just trying to stay out of the fray. Karen - lovely avatar and window box! I stop some meds tomorrow to prep for Thurs. and just need to get through the beginning of next week with what's left of my patience and sanity. Wally is happily sitting here chewing on his Himalayan bone while Zoe snoozes. How goes things with Dale and retirement? How did he do at the estate sale? I am sure you're going to do really well with your fair entries! WOW on the plants being blown over and that rain you've gotten. We had quite a bit of it Wed. into Thurs. as well. Were you able to sleep in at all this morning? Wally had me up at 5:30am which I guess for me is still sleeping in all things considered. I will check in with the hematologist even though she was fine with the surgery; she was supposed to call me back and I haven't heard from her. My Brother and his girl were at SM's yesterday evening for a few hours prompting her neighbor to call DS. I texted them for DS and was told they were there getting SM some additional things. Who knows? They are all full of you know what and not particularly nice people! I'm sure they were going through things to take as well but I am tired of trying to protect SM from herself. DU found close to $2.000 in checks to every ridiculous group you can imagine in SM's mail. While all she would tell my DS is that she had no money. Oh well hopefully this will all be a thing of the past. I hope you all have a great Saturday and if the weather suits; get to enjoy it~ I am off to make some coffee and elevate the legs. Ciao for now dear ladies~

Liz, really wishing you good luck on Thursday surgery and hope it puts a lot to rights. And I hope hey are glad to see you at work and do not push their luck!
Becky, have a great birthday.
104 is not too bad if humidity is low, and having had the 110 plusses , it feels better.
Feeling a lot better, and I hope one round of antibiotics and the two yeast pills do the job, but not sure. this is second time in three months after never in 20 years. Tried raw sauerkraut (probiotic) yesterday that was made with dill and garlic...not too bad tasted like a pickle. Gut does not like cabbage and its relatives, so I added Beano. Younger people do not appreciate how easy it is for most if them to bounce back or how many ways menopause affects us.

Going to try this later this week Zucchini Meatballs
“These meatless meatballs were a HUGE hit in my house, I even let my neighbors and friends try and everyone loved them! Made with grated zucchini, garlic, Pecorino Romano, basil, bread crumbs and egg, then baked in the oven and finished in a pomodoro sauce.” YIELD: 4 servings 4.93 from 27 votes Zucchini Meatballs
PREP TIME: 15 mins COOK TIME: 30 mins TOTAL TIME: 45 mins COURSE: Dinner CUISINE: Italian These meatless Zucchini Meatballs are made with grated zucchini, garlic, Pecorino Romano, basil, bread crumbs and egg, then baked in the oven and finished in a pomodoro sauce. Ingredients
cooking spray 1 tsp olive oil 2 garlic cloves (crushed) 1 1/4 lbs unpeeled zucchini (grated) 1/2 tsp kosher salt 1/8 tsp black pepper 3 tbsp chopped basil (plus leaves for garnish) 1 cup Italian seasoned breadcrumbs 1 large egg (beaten) 1 ounce 1/4 cup Pecorino Romano cheese, freshly grated, plus more for serving 2 cups quick marinara sauce or jarred (I love DeLallo Pomodoro) part skim ricotta cheese (for serving (optional)) Instructions
Heat the oven to 375°F. Spray a large rimmed baking sheet with cooking spray. Place the olive oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. When hot add the garlic and saute until golden, about 30 seconds. Add the zucchini, season with salt and pepper and cook on high heat until all the water evaporates from the skillet, 5 to 7 minutes. Transfer to a colander to get rid of any excess water, then to a large bowl along with the bread crumbs, beaten egg, Romano cheese and chopped basil. Form the zucchini mixture into 16 balls about 1 oz each, rolling tightly and transfer to the prepared baking sheet. Spray the top and bake until firm and browned, about 20 to 25 minutes. Liz, thanks for the start. I'm glad the telecommuting is helping some and hope all goes well with the surgery next week. That's great that you got to talk to your DN. How much longer will he be in school in Anguilla? I finally synced my Fitbit with WW and it's working, at least for now. I had trouble getting my previous Fitbit to sync with WW, so hadn't even tried with the new one. It is convenient, although I only plan to stay on the WW site through the end of the special pricing. DM is doing well and is as feisty as ever. We're looking at invitations for her big BD party in November.
They keep playing a commercial where it mentions that first chill in the summer air. Sounds like you're experiencing it now and a day in the 70s sounds lovely. I don't think I've ever experienced a chill in the air during summer! Maybe late October for us if we're lucky. We have moved down to the low 90s, so that's an improvement. We have a tropical blob off of the coast and another one forming further south that looks like it's aiming right for us. Hopefully, it won't develop or that track will change over the next week. Sorry to hear that the problems with SM continue and that's awful that people in the family are taking advantage of her. Hope the situation improves with her move. Enjoy your day in the 70s!
Becky, Happy Birthday!! Any special plans?
Waving to all. Have a great Saturday!

Linda, just looked at the recipe. Thanks for posting. Yikes on the sodium though! I've been using the finely chopped Pomi tomatoes with added seasonings and veggies in place of marinara sauce or sometimes Gia Russa low sodium sauce.

Liz, glad to hear the surgery is scheduled and hope it gives you relief after the recovery process. At least one of the pups isn’t afraid of thunder. I hope SM can be stopped from falling for every scam in the book. I am sure DN is enjoying the break from his studies.
Becky, I hope you are enjoying your birthday.
Linda, it is great that you are feeling better. Let is know how the zucchini meatballs turn out. They sound delish. I hope you like the pancakes when you make them.
Kathy, I hope your family is enjoying the last summer vacay weekend with DN.
Karen, any swimming or kayaking today? How is the energy?
We made the acquaintance of a Wheaton terrier this morning. I think I am in love. He jumped up and gave me a kiss and apparently, that is called the Wheaton greeting. He is not a big dog-45 lbs max-and does not shed. He would require brushing but I don’t mind that and needs lots of exercise which would be good for me and Iggy. It is something to think about. We are not rushing into anything.

Thanks for the start, Liz. I, too, am sorry you didn't apply for telecommuting long before now. But some poeople have jobs where that's not an option. I always seemed to have one of those. The only time I was able to telecommute was when I had a huge report or grant I was working on and was able to convince the VP that I couldn't get it done in the office due to constant interruptions. That was rare. Good to hear that SM is in her new place, even if she probably isn't settled in yet. You do what you can and if she doesn't want to answer the phone and others who are more local are checking on her, you gave it your best shot. Did DU pull the checks out of the mail that he found? It has to be a comfort knowing that you only have to do the commute in pain 2 more times. Good luck with that patience and sanity. Surprising that the hematologist hasn't called you back. Maybe you can work on setting up the Alta HR while you're recuping after surgery. Did you know DN was coming home or was it a surprise? Maybe he'll visit you while he's home because you won't be going far. Has Zoe always been sensitive to thunder? Wally sounds like Phoebe was--"thunder? what thunder?" She got stuck in the backyard during a chunk of her energetic puppyhood, so nothing much phased her. Dale did well at the estate sale. He seems to be enjoying retirement. Right now he's working on refinishing my Adirondack chair that we bought a couple of years ago. It's a well built chair, but the guy really skimped on the finish. So Dale is stripping it all off (including the stuff between the slats) and will redo the finish with something more durable. I'm looking forward to having it back when the weather starts to cool. Is Gary golfing tomorrow?
Happy Birthday, Becky! Did you go to Taylor? Any other plans for the day? I know what you mean about the difference in sleep stats between Fitbit and Garmin. With the Fitbit, I think every time I turned over, got kicked by the dog, slightly woke up when the furnace kicked on, etc., it thought I was awake. There were nights when I thought I slept great that it indicated I did not. I seem to be getting what I think are more reliable results from the Garmin, but your sleeping situation is pretty different from mine. What kind of reaction were you having to the band on the Vivosmart 4? I have a little spot of something on my wrist but it seems to be more of an insect bite. It's not like I can get another band for this one and I really like that everything communicates so well. I don't know why I didn't switch to a Garmin long ago.
YAY! for the antiotics and yeast pills, Linda. DM had a rash of UTIs and hadn't had any in probably 40 years. Have you tried kimchi? There are some made without cabbage that you might be able to find at TJ's. It's a great probiotic. Ah, yes, the days of being able to bounce back quickly from maladies. Too bad we can't bottle that for our later years. The meatball recipe looks really good. Is the cheese for flavor? I can sub something vegan for the egg because it's a binder, but am trying to think of the purpose for cheese, if it's not for flavor, so I can figure out what to sub there.
Kathy, how long is it going to take for you to feel that "first chill in the summer air"? November? Fingers crossed we'll have it here next week. I guess you could get some cooler weather if the blob continues in your direction. Dale plans to go to the big annual flea market in Hillsville, VA, on Friday and it seems there is always something tropical swirling around then, often bringing them rain. When does UCF start football season? UT starts next Saturday. I'm watching a baseball game and they are occasionally scrolling football scores, so some have already started. I also gulped at the sodium level in the meatballs. There's only 1/2 tsp of salt, so it must be the breadcrumbs and cheese driving it up, and maybe the marinara.
Wheatens are adorable, Chele. A friend of mine has one as a granddog and Chelsea is and always has been a delight. Maybe you could find one 2 or 3 years old out of the puppy stages because they can be high energy. That would be a whole lot more dog than Teddy was. I know you'll do a lot of research. That would give you and Iggy a good walking buddy for your neighborhood. And, I just heard yesterday about a study that says dogs are good for your heart, so that would be even better for Iggy. Are there a lot of dogs in your neighborhood? Did you go to the farmers market this morning? My energy level is a bit better today. I managed to do 30+ minutes on the rowing machine and surpassed my 200 intensity minutes for the week on the Garmin. I'm kind of taking it easy this afternoon but got a lot done this morning. Something definitely took it out of me yesterday and I didn't like that feeling.
The new avatar is my aloe from the fair. I don't know if you can see them, but there are 2 small frogs toward the back and a gecko in the front. One of the guys brought a banana tree for his exhibit (he's our tropical expert), so I don't expect to win the category. It would be nice to win something, but I am mainly in it to support the group and help them have a nice display for fair goers. Last night I bit the bullet and signed up for an online class on growing succulents that I have been muliing over for about a year. GF took it last year and has done quite well with it, even starting to sell her plants. I'm still asking her succulent questions and figured it was time for me to cut the cord and take the course. I've been growing aloes for about 30 years--since our days in TX--but haven't branched out much more until recently. We didn't design this house for indoor plants and that was short sighted on our part because we had a lot of plants at the other house and gave most of them away before we moved so we wouldn't have to move them. I do have some room around the tub in the master bath, but that will only hold so many pots. I wish we had put in a greenhouse window. I thought about it but it didn't get done.

Thanks for the weekend start Liz.Thanks for the birthday wishes. It's only 95 at 3:00.There is a possibility it might not get to 100 today if it stays cloudier like it has been.Prayers and (((hugs))) for your upcoming surgery.I hope it goes well and you can get rid of that horrible pain.Actually I ordered a Fitbit Inspire HR for my birthday and I like it so far.
Linda I am glad you are feeling better.
Kathy I'm glad you were able to sync your Versa to WW.I cancelled my second free month with WW and 2 days later they offered me a 3rd free month so I took advantage of that too.I'm surprised they are giving me so many free months.I synced my Fitbit Inspire HR to WW also.We went to Taylor to the buffet for lunch.
Thanks Chele. It's been a good day.I haven't heard of a Wheaton terrier.I will have to google it.
Karen We did go to the buffet and it was good.I splurged a little but I wasn't stuffed or go overboard on the sweets.I do love their soft serve ice cream though.Nothing else planned for today.Kenneth bought me a card.It was kind of like a rash on my wrist and it bothered me with the Garmin. The Inspire HR has a lighter band and doesn't bother me.It did give me the right amount of sleep last night.I just didn't sleep well the 2 nights before.
Thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes.

Karen, I think the blob off of the coast is actually pulling moisture away from us since we haven't gotten any rain yet. (famous last words) It gets extra humid when a tropical system is close and it doesn't really lower the temperatures much, so no relief there. November is probably about right for us to feel a chill in the air. UCF's first game is next Thursday and FSU starts next Saturday. UF and Miami are playing tonight in Orlando. Hard to pick who to root for in that one! Very nice arrangement for the aloe. I can see the gecko, but the frogs are a little hard to make out. The yellow is nice and bright. I had an aloe for years and need to get another one since they're handy for first aid sometimes. The succulent class sounds interesting. I see a lot of recipes that don't seem to take sodium into account. There are easy ways to reduce it though like just don't add the extra salt. Glad you're feeling more like your normal self today. Becky, might as well use the free WW months since they're offering. I only got one free month and they didn't offer anything when I cancelled. Then I got an email with the same reduced pricing offer that I had just cancelled, so took that. Glad you had a nice birthday lunch and enjoyed a little splurge. You deserve it! Chele, I had to look up a Wheaton terrier and they are very cute. Terriers are a handful and the Wheaton is larger than the one we had. They are fun dogs, but very headstrong and energetic. My DS used to take ours running with her and that didn't even begin to tire her out. (the dog, not DS!) They are very loving though and like to play. DN is off with his college buds this weekend, but I'm sure we'll see him soon. I think DS and DBIL need a weekend to rest up after the unexpected trip last weekend.

Wheaton sounds great...is that what they call white Scotties? Terriers are indeed energetic and nobody gets by your house without notice. Micki is a mini schnauzer on the large size...tall for his breed. So were the other two males..The big schnauzers...larger than standard poodle ...were bred to be ratters in factories.
Two years three tiny aloe vera plants from the grocery store into the ground in a sunny place that gets water every other day, They reproduced so much I had to pull out a lot of extras. They are two feet tall so far and put up a shoot of flowers in e a year.
Decided since it would be cool today (101) I would do errands...well at 98 the humidity was so bad my make up with sunblock melted off and I sweated through aC in stores. Got gas, a few survivor flowers for pots, a replacement shrub and moved on to drop off clothes for consignment, dog food next door and produce and organic neat and eggs at TJs on same corner. Bleah!

Linda, West Scotland Terriers or Westies are the white Scotties, like the dog in the Caesar dog food commercials.
Later addition to post. Niece#2 is 2 weeks overdue on Baby Emma. BIL and SIL drove down yesterday afternoon because DN was going to be induced in the evening. As of 30 minutes ago no baby and doctors don’t think she will come until tomorrow. This is her first. Niece#1 had baby boy 2 years ago last May, if you recall. Poor DN.
Waving to all. Have a good Sunday.

Have a good day everyone.
