Gratitude for my life - I have it so much better than many folks in this world - and for you guys, and for being able to still do what I want to do, physically.

Gratitude for being physically and mentally able to stay in the game. This is so true. and for being able to still do what I want to do, physically. I am also thankful for this. lani, Speaking of sports, my husband subscribes to the channels that carry the English and the German soccer leagues. During their season Saturday and Sunday morning and early afternoon are spent watching those game. The US games are on later in the day.

bbbearsmom , soccer is one that I haven't gotten into, but DH likes it. That said, he really only watches the World Cup.

lani, tell your hubby I went to the World Cup in South Africa...It was happenstance. I was there on a work assignment that began a few weeks before the Cup, and ended midway through. I was based in Pretoria at a hotel where all the Press ended up coming in to stay so the first couple of weeks were quiet and then all hell broke loose, but I found out by chance that the park across the street - where I was told to not wander due to safety issues - was the Pretoria venue for the Cup so when it came time for Ghana to play Serbia, I just walked down the street to the entrance and scalped a ticket from a Ghanain dude who'd flown there with friends but he was the only one with a ticket and he preferred to watch the game in a bar down the street with his friends. So I bought his ticket and the experience was MAGICAL! There is NOTHING like walking into a World Cup stadium at dusk and being under the vapor lights and feeling the electricity of the crowd - it was amazing, and I don't even love soccer! I also went to the last South Africa team's game - same venue - they lost miserably but it was still electric hearing the crowd sing the national anthem of South Africa, Sikelela, which is a beautiful song. It was the year of the vuvuzela, something I loathe, but it was part of the scene, and I brought a few back as souvenirs, giving one to a waiter at our local Vietnamese restaurant, because he was a soccer fan. He just about wet himself when I gave it to him...soccer fans apparently are rabid, who knew?!?

surfgirl, wow, what an experience! I remember when the fans were jumping up and down in Mexico City and it registered like a small earthquake. Years ago we had many Brazilian fans here for a soccer event. They were joyous in the streets.
