Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Cloudy here this morning, supposed to clear then possible rain later today.
Gareth, yes, it is feeling like fall here too. I too noticed the difference, in the morning and evening. At least that will help the moms, getting kids back to bed earlier, for school starting. Haha, I had to laugh at following your DH, and opening the blinds!! My DH knows that I am in control of the blinds, sometimes he will ask, if I want them closed, if I have not gotten to them, as we are going to our bedrooms. His DM was like your neighbor, when we were going steady, we would go to their house and she had all the drapes pulled, I felt like I was in a funeral home! Beautiful day outside, and all dark in the house.
Robin, I think you have a whole different style of living, where you are, compared to us, so there might be a window or two that I would have to leave the blinds down, or curtains drawn, if I was you, but I would sure hate it. One thing I can not do is read while walking outside. I can do it while walking on the treadmill, but not outside.
Carol, lol, when we first moved into our house, 19 years ago, with us being mostly surrounded by trees, it took me a couple years to put blinds/window toppers on the windows. And then it was only because DH kept complaining about it. Back then for anyone driving by the house, could not see into any windows, since with the speed limit of 45, most cars flew by, and the trees that bordered the road all across the front yard, was like a wall. We loved it. Over the years tho, with storms and age we lost all those trees in the front. I could not imagine having my mother in law stay with us for 10 days!!! I would be committing either murder or suicide, so way to go, to your DD!!!
Marsha, yikes!! What a weekend!!! I bet you were glad to get home, Sunday. No...to other places up north. I have to be in Minocqua, but that is ok. I know it is an issue I will never win, so I look forward to our annual trip up there when hopefully the leaves are changing. Lol, I too hope your DD get used to closing the blinds very fast!!
Anngie, glad you are able to get away, your weekends so fantastic!! Have you seen any trees turning color yet, as some people around here are noticing? I saw a blurb somewhere online yesterday saying the Farmers Almanac is coming out for this winter, saying it is going to be a bad one....(AGAIN!!). Thanks, on my walking. Hopefully I can do it again this morning, and yes, the knees hurt after all the work I make them do, but the pain is easy to live with during the day.
As I mentioned, my hold for California Girls came in, so I started that. I was surprised it was on hold so long, as I don't think it is a great read. Yesterday another hold came in, The Forgotten Room. I started that last night, so far it is slow going, but I will keep at it.
Well, early on with rehab of the knees, my long term goal was to do the Rump Roast Run/Walk, the end of Sept, up at Minocqua's Beef-A-Rama. I was able to check the page out, for the run/walk, yesterday, and the organizers changed it a bit, so I am not happy and won't participate. It used to be the start and finish was where the trail starts in Minocqua, then wraps around the lake, which is a beautiful walk. Now they have it starting and finishing at the city high school. Stupid! What it means to all of us participating is: they shut down the city to vehicles at 7 am. They do shuttling all that day, from a stop a couple miles south of town, and the high school, and charge $5.00 to ride that stupid bus. So with the race changed, we will all have to pay that $5.00 to go back to town, where our motel room is right across the street (one of the reason's we stay at that motel, so we do not have to ride the shuttle, just walk all over). Oh well, I will do more swimming in the motel pool, and take my own walks, and save the money from between the entrance fee of the walk, and the shuttle money.
Going to take a walk this morning, then a run to the grocery store.
DH got the call yesterday to start that bladder washing tomorrow. Sounds like a long, drawn out procedure, I won't go into here. Then he will be doing that once a week for 6 weeks. I will go with him this first time, because I want to be sure when they set up the rest of the appointments, that they work around our week of going up north. So, so glad I did not take that job!!
Have a groovy day everyone!

Finally a sunny morning after the last few cloudy days. Low 70's again today but it'll be breezy. Couple of loads of laundry done after my walk. Bed is put back together. Taking a break now after having breakfast My later shift to work today.
Karen, like you I can't walk and read at the same time. It makes me dizzy. I can't read in a moving vehicle for the same reason. DH walks and reads his iPad a lot. Doesn't bother him at all. Too bad about that walk as I know you were really looking forward to it. Organized walks have never interested me. Too many people.
Robin, I wouldn't want my blinds open if people could see in either. One thing I don't like is our front porch runs the length of the house and anyone coming to the front door can see right in the living room window. I like it open though in the daytime to see out.
Carol, no way could I have ever put up with my MIL visiting for 10 days. I'd have been stark raving mad by time she left.
Marsha, have you gotten rested up from your busy weekend?
Anngie, I'll wait on your review of Every Breath by Nicholas Sparks. I've read all of his books but haven't enjoyed his recent books as much as his first books.
Pinky, I'm sure you're having another busy day as usual.

I woke up about 6 a.m. to the sound of thunder. We got almost an inch and a half of rain and it is only 73 degrees. I wish it would stay this cool, but I know we will get more hot temps before fall comes.
I think both DD and DSIL understand his mom wants to be a part of DGS's life even though they live far away. They face-time with him, too. Like I said, it would be different if they were all home all day.
I have never listened to a book. It seems like it would be distracting.
Karen, sorry about your walk being changed.
Looking forward to my cut/color appointment this afternoon.

Not much to report here. My walking buddy is taking a break from our walks while she gets her house ready for sale, so I'm not sure we will ever get back to it. I told her let me know. I walked Mitzi this morning but a very short walk because I slept later than I do when I meet her. Which is why I wanted a buddy to hold me accountable. I guess I'll start searching for someone new, but with winter coming along it's only a matter of time before it's too cold/icy/snowy for me anyway.
Karen - best to dh on the procedure. I hope it's not too painful or uncomfortable.

Beautiful cool fall like weather today. We did get around 7/10ths of rain yesterday which we actually were okay with.
I went MIA again yesterday as I decided Sunday night to go with DH and DS#1 to Aberdeen(2 hours away) as they had a meeting there. I continued driving from there to DD's which is only another 25 miles so that I could spend the day with her and baby. So glad I did as Crue is already growing so much. The 2 older boys and of course DSIL who is a teacher are back in school so I pretty much got baby to myself, well except when DD had to feed him. We had a nice day together and I helped her with a few things as well. By the time we got home last night it was almost 9 and we had left at 6:30 am so up at 5 am so I was ready for bed last night. Loved my baby time and did get to see the boys when they came home from school for about an hour. A great day!
Karen--Didn't realize your DH was having to have those bladder washings again--hope all is ok! Doesn't that just tick you off when they change a good thing with events, so annoying!! I just finished California Girls and I did enjoy it, I needed a light read and it fit what I was looking for.
Gareth---I cannot read while driving either as I start feeling sickish. I would probably trip over something if I walked and read leading to a broken arm or something. I'm in the office (the house office) that is working on farm books which I like as I am catching up on some laundry and makes that much easier to do while I work.
Carol---I'm sure it is hard to have DMIL around for such a long period of time but think it is wonderful your DD tolerates it. It makes sense if she travels from far to take more time but how wonderful for DGS and DMIL to have that bonding time. It would be difficult I think and I always have said I have the best DMIL in the world but man not sure I would like to have her stay at my house for so long.
Marsha--good luck with finding a new walking buddy, maybe once the old one gets organized she will be ready to get back at it. Glad your DD's return to college went well except for the fender bender.
Annige--your trips to the lake sound wonderful even if cool. Something so peaceful about spending time at a lake.
Robin---HAPPY WEDDING WEEK!!!!

Just stopping in today as not much is going on. Just back from a hair appointment - color and cut. With a tip it comes to $65. I know we talked about this before as to how much our appointments cost.
Not it sure if or when I mentioned it but I’ve been going to physical therapy for sciatica pain on my right side. Today was the fourth visit. We’re trying to find an exercise to get rid of the pain. It’s helping but it’s not gone yet! Today is actually much better. This came on about three months ago. I thought it would go away on its own, but it apparently it’s not that easy! So here I am going to pt!
Just started Every Breath last night because I couldn’t sleep. So far I like it.

Karen, I think it mainly makes a difference at night when the lights are on, especially if we go out. We have an 8 foot bay window in front. Not that my street is very busy, but when cars go by, people are walking their dogs, or even just walking or riding bicycles, I don't want them being able to see in so much. I am not even sure how much they can see from the street, but I can see in when I come in with the dog. California Girls was a great beach read, so it's the kind of book that is popular in the summer. It surprises me how much people must read romances. The NY Public Library has loads of them, and a lot of times there are wait lists for books that are from authors I have never even heard of.
Pinky, so nice that you got to spend the day with your DD and Crue.
Gareth, glad you are having a sunny morning.
Anngie, you are right, we did talk about that. It's easy for me to do my hair at home. I did it in early May, so I am seeing a bit starting to grow in, but am just going to use the touch up. If it wasn't for the wedding, I wouldn't be doing it.
Marsha, it always amazes me the way these stores don't keep proper track of inventory, but so glad that your DD got that mirror. When I bought my cell phone from Best Buy, on Saturday afternoon they said they had 2 left in stock. I was pretty sure people weren't running in to get the iPhone 8, but Sunday morning they said they had none. I went over anyway to see which phone I wanted. It ended up they had plenty of them. I told them it was a good thing I didn't decide to go to a store that was twice as far from my house.
Carol, enjoy your cut and color, I find whatever anyone does for me, whether it is hair cutting, a manicure, whatever, to be very relaxing.
I made an appointment at a new place for a mani/pedi on Thursday. Hope I am not making a mistake, but this place is right near my house, and is more relaxing looking than a normal salon. I went over there the other day when someone recommended it.
