This is a related two-parter:
How do you modify recipes/foods to make them healthier? And, what have you used as a substitute for high point items (for example how did you change the alcohol you drink or the desserts you eat)?

I don't really cook recipes any more but I went to non-fat milk and yogurt, and use low fat mayo. Made my eating healthier by eating more fruit and veggies and keeping sweets out of the house. I don't drink alcohol but when I did I would mix wine and seltzer for my drink. As for desserts like I said I keep sweets out of the house and work on not having desserts when I eat out. I eat a lot of fruit and that takes care of my sweet tooth

How do you modify recipes/foods to make them healthier?
*Increase vegetables *Whole grains instead of refined *Reduce fat - tsp per person in a recipe
And, what have you used as a substitute for high point items (for example how did you change the alcohol you drink or the desserts you eat)? * Use nonfat labne (kind of like Greek Yogurt, I think) instead of sour cream * Nonfat milk instead of whole

I also go for non-fat or low fat versions of dairy (except for my beloved cheese. Even then, I will use low fat in cooking. But eating, got to be the real deal.) It's more about my cholesterol than calories, but I will take the reduced calories, gladly.
I usually use non-fat Greek yogurt when sour cream is called for. Healthier and I think it tastes better too.

I normally dont use recipes, I just cook what I want, so I'll use EVOO a lot, and use less when possible. I use low/no sodium broth to add liquid if needed. I use spices, and I use flavored vinegars to give the 'bite' of salt and add flavor as well.
I use LF cheeses in my daily lunches, but I'll splurge on real cheese now and then because there's no replacement for that! I also use Low/No fat sour cream and Greek yogurts when needed.
