This is a thread devoted to those in their 50s & 60s and beyond who don't have children or grandchildren but live rich, full lives. Please feel free to join our stroll thru life and come back often for support and to share. ********** Sending special prayers for Liz. So glad her surgery wasn’t cancelled.
Karen, congrats on the ribbons. I bet the scarf looks stunning. I hope the Alabam fam doesn’t get hit with Dorian. I don’t think I would like fish nibbles.
Becky, I also prefer gas to electric cooking. I hope you get some rain soon.
Linda, glad to hear the antibiotics are doing their job.
Kathy, I am glad you and DM stocked up, but I hope it isn’t needed.
Iggy gets back today but I don’t know what time. I guess I will plan dinner at the usual time. Baby Emma and DN are doing fine. I hope to see them this weekend.

Made the chickpea pancakes ahead last night to go with chicken and out into oven last few minutes.interesting, kind of dense. Bob likes them., but he likes chickpeas.
Worried about Florida, seems like news keeps getting worse.
more heat today, but we finally had storms last night...so of course dog had to out because we fed him too much and as soon as barfing looks like it us coming, we go out....twice, then he felt better, but then he wanted to keep going out see what was so weird out there !
no plans...DH going for medical imaging soon.Hope that comes back normal. Also Eye dr yesterday said it is time for his cataracts to go. Hope I have solved my issues mostly and can take care of his. Aging ain't for wusses.

Linda, the pancakes sure aren’t light and fluffy. I’m glad Bob liked them. I hope his medical imaging is okay. My DM had her cataracts lasered and she could see better. It is so easy to overfeed dogs. They are so happy when you give them treats.

Thanks for the start, Chele. Hope Iggy had a good trip. Is Louisville about 3 hours from you? Fingers crossed he will be home in time for dinner and that he'll feel like eating when he gets there. Glad mama and baby are doing fine. The scarf did turn out well. I need to remember to get a photo on Sunday. I posted a better avatar of the Holy Basil without the ribbon. Where they had it displayed wasn't the easiest to photograph. It looks like, unless the storm shifts track, DB/DSIL should just get rain. They are about 20 minutes from Mobile Bay and inland a bit. But they are flatlanders, so if the course shifts a little south of Kathy and goes into the Gulf, they could get flooding. The other house they put a bid on when they were getting ready to buy had a storm shelter, so I wonder if that might have been a better option for this type of situation. That house was closer to the coast, however.
Kathy, Dorian appears to be headed your way. I just saw your governor's press conference and it sounded like he has the bases covered. Good thing you are as far inland as you are. At least Jim Cantore isn't there (yet anyway). Do you have hurricane shutters? They just had a guy from the Kennedy Space Center discuss what they are doing to get ready for the storm. Pretty impressive. Are you getting outer bands yet? It doesn't look like there is much on the western edge right now. They keep reminding people that you can get water on Amazon and have it delivered before the storm. I wonder if Amazon is giving them a kickback on water sales in FL. Are they canceling or postponing college football games yet? The clerk at Publix told me something interesting today. She said the sales repeat every 4 weeks. The Greenwise veggies are on sale this week but I still had several packages from the last sale, so I know in 4 weeks I can restock.
Did you get your running around done while Kenneth got his hair cut, Becky? Have your temperatures changed any or are you still in the 90s? My body battery was at 91 when I got up this morning, so what ever was going on with me seems to have subsided. I did check it before I went into Osteo and then after and it dropped 7 points in that 20 minutes I was there. I knew it took some effort but didn't expect it to drop that much.
Sorry Micki overate, Linda. I've had Arya do the same thing and it took me a while to get the amount right, but she hasn't gotten sick in over a year now--at least from overeating. How much rain did you end up getting? Sorry it didn't cool your heat much, if any.
No word from Gary yet on Liz. If I remember, the last surgery took 3 hours or so and if she didn't go into the OR on schedule, it could be a while. I'll post as soon as I hear something.
Typical Thursday here--NuStep, Osteo, and trips to Publix and Earth Fare. I also dropped off a load of glass at the recycling center in Knoxville because nobody else around here recycles glass. In NC, we had a single stream recycling center and they took everything except plastic grocery bags and styrofoam. I miss that. We usually have enough glass to recycle about once a month. I wish I could find a crafty use for it so I wouldn't have to recycle it at all. No luck on that yet. Dale is going to a big annual flea market in southern VA tomorrow. He'll leave before the roosters are up. He likes to get there early to get a parking spot in a specific location. The last time I went with him, my Fitbit said I walked 10 miles that day and it's up and down hills the entire time. I don't think my knees would take it now, so I just gave him my wish list.

Micki had. carrots with me when I had a snack, and we have been giving him chunky dental food with a tiny but soft treat after dinner to clean his teeth, but I forgot that dry stuff absorbs a lot of water and he had some of our chicken at dinner...oops. Did it stop the little pig? no.

Chele Thanks for the start. We have chances of popup showers just about every day in the heat of the day but we haven't gotten much outside the shower we received the other night.I am glad Emma and DN are doing fine.I hope Iggy is home by now and you get a chance to see baby Emma this weekend.
Kathy Stay safe if Dorian reaches you. Will be thinking of you.
Karen No we are still getting 100 degree days. They just say we may end up with forty 100 degree days by time it's over.It just stays hot and humid.I did go to Walmart while Kenneth got his haircut.I needed some non food items and he needed bananas. The bananas at HEB are usually too green to buy.Tomorrow we need to go to HEB and stock up for the weekend.I am glad your Garmin straightened out.I hope surgery for Liz is over.I have another online friend who had surgery this morning.
Linda I hope Micki feels better.I have never understood that about dogs. They get sick and then they are ready to eat right away again. We feed Scooter Purina One dry food and it has dried carrots in it but it has never bothered her.She doesn't eat a lot like a normal big dog would unless it's handouts.

Thanks for the start Chele. Stocking up once wasn't enough, so we did it again today. No water or gas around the local stores, but I think we have enough and I will fill several empty jugs with filtered water. Heaven forbid we have to drink FL water straight from the tap, lol! Hope Iggy has arrived home safely. Glad to hear baby Emma and DN are doing fine. My DN's BD is Sept. 1, so great timing for a storm! My DS always jokes about Labor Day weekend having a different meaning for her. Karen, the latest track is taking Dorian a bit further south, but then up the middle of the state towards us. They're forecasting tropical storm to Cat 1 winds here, so not fun, but nothing like the coast. The models are still changing, so this one has been really hard to predict. They're telling people on the coast to be ready to evacuate when they give the order which might be tomorrow. A lot of them will probably come to hotels over here. I missed the governor's press conference, but I'm sure it's the usual. FL learned a lot of lessons after the four storms in 2004 and I think they do handle them better than some states. I don't think we'll get any bands until Sunday. The UCF game will be tonight and it's hot, but no rain, so good weather for them. The FSU game was supposed to be in Jacksonville, but they've moved it back to Tallahassee on Saturday and that should be okay. I would guess it might affect the crowd size some since people traveling from other parts of the state might not go. Is the 4 week sale cycle just for Greenwise? I knew they repeated them on a cycle, but didn't realize it was only 4 weeks. I noticed the lack of recycling when I was in your area and hated to throw glass and plastic out. I've seen crafts with wine bottles, but not as much with other glass. Maybe they could hold soy candles? Hope all is well with Liz.
Becky, thanks for the thoughts. You've had an awful long stretch of 100 degree days.
Linda, hope Micki is feeling better. I guess people aren't the only ones that overeat when given the chance.

Hope the hurricane changes and goes east to sea!
Finished the new Louise Penny and disappointed! So negative, and I hate when a mystery writer jerks you around on the solution until the last minute. I like he books for human insight but the grace of the village which seems quite lacking in this one until last pages. Not saying more until people have read it. Wonder what was in her mind while writing it.
got up late and changed bedding, washing out and towels and wash and wear, went through fridge to toss stuff for garbage going out tonight, wandered around picking up clutter and damp swiffered the kitchen floor... ho hum.

No word on Liz?
another thought About the book..DH still reading it on audio dislikes it a lot, but a huge number of her fans love it and many say best. book yet.
I hate when a character undergoes a personality change (he would not have in life )at the end because the writer wants to make a point.
