Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. A bit chilly here this morning, but the sun is shining, so there is that. Supposed to be a very nice holiday weekend, for all the campers.
Pinky, I kind of remember the Summer of 69, as I was 16. Living in small town Green Bay really had it's advantages, one of them being sheltered by all the protests going on around the country. I think the local college kids protested, but nothing like the big city protests. Hope you got your lawn mowed. Any fun plans for the long weekend?
Marsha, I tried going for a quick walk, when we came home from the MRI, but that is when that thunderstorm was trying to push through. I guess I am a real loner, I love being able to just throw on my walking or work out clothes and go do it, rather than having to make plans with someone, as to what time and all that. Do you have any fun plans for this weekend?
Gareth, how nice about the no charge on the car!! My car has to go to the shop, as one of the headlights is burnt out. DH stopped at Auto Zone, brought the employee out, and between the both of them, they could not replace the burnt out light, as the wiring or some such thing is buried way down in that front part...sorry, all that was way over my head. So it has to go in for a professional to do it....really, a head light? I know we won't hear that it is no charge. Any fun plans for this weekend?
Carol, wow, you were busy yesterday!! Sorry about the eye. I guess DH and I are lucky, as we do not have that issue. Knock on wood!! Are you doing anything fun this weekend?
Robin, well there is another subject I know nothing about...mani's/pedi's. Never had one or the other. I was shocked when you said your DH had one also. I could never picture my DH going to have one of those. But your DH is a professional. OMG, are you all set? Getting a little nervous? Good luck with everything tomorrow, I am sure it will be a gorgeous wedding.
DH and DGS had a blast at the game, and they were lucky to see a winning game. The Packers have not had a good preseason. I am still amazed at the prices of food and water at the game. Who the heck can go to those games on a regular basis?
DH saw his results on some xrays he had done a week or 2 ago, on his neck and back, (that is what the MRI yesterday was for). He has screws in both areas, and the xrays showed there is a broken bolt in his neck and one in his back. Yikes! The things with him just keep piling up!!!
We are having our very close elderly friends over tomorrow for hors d'oeuvres, which should be a nice time. I was surprised they agreed to come over, as they do not go out much anymore.
Well, the Y is waiting for me, so I better shake a leg.... Have a nice day/weekend.

Karen, that poor husband of yours! Two bolts broke? How can that be?! I would imagine surgery will be scheduled to repair them. And then the tumors - I wonder which issue they’ll address first. I know what you mean about taking the car into a shop for every little thing these days. There’s very little a car owner can do now other than fill it with gas! Enjoy the evening with your friends tonight!
Robin, enjoy yourself tomorrow! I’m sure it will be a beautiful wedding!
Pinky, how did you like The Rosie Project? Any plans for this weekend?
Marsha, I also have pedicures only in the summer. My last one was $25 which I thought was a lot. I’m going to try another place next time (summer!). I rarely have manicures because they don’t last. (thank you for the information on a shiva)
Gareth, my DH just had his routine physical and the doctor recommended a pneumonia shot as well as the shingles shot(s). Do you gets those also? I’m starting to feel like I’m going back to school with all these vaccinations! Personally I think I will wait a couple of months before I get the flu shot.
Carol, how soon into next year will your eye surgery need to be done?

Karen, chilly here this morning too. Sun is shining and not much of a breeze but I still needed my windbreaker for my walk. Only 70's today after high 80's and humid yesterday. 60's tomorrow. I know DS and family were happy about the Packer win. I was surprised last time we were at their house they'd totally redecorated their living room with Packer colors on the wall along with Packer paraphernalia. I wouldn’t want that look but it's their living room. Hope the game took DH's mind off everything going on with him.
My day off has gotten totally derailed until the plumber shows up in a couple of hours. Turned the hot water faucet on when I got up this morning and no hot water. Cold water faucets are working but no water at all not even a drip is coming out of any of the hot water faucets. At least it happened right after DH had his shower but no shower or laundry for me until after it's fixed. Always something. At least it's my day off. I'd have hated going to work without a shower.
Carol, I had cataract surgery on both eyes two weeks apart a couple of years ago. The thought of it was worse than the procedure which took no time at all.
Robin, I'll be anxious to hear all about the wedding!
Anngie, yes we get pneumonia shots too. At our ages we're not taking any chances!

Karen--OMG on those broken bolts, no wonder your DH is hurting. Poor guy, it is just one thing after another. I can't remember for sure when you are taking your mini vacation but hope it isn't when you mentioned the tumor surgery dates---uuuggghhhh! I did get my mowing done and it was a beautiful day for it. We have our nephews wedding tomorrow night and beings we are dining room host and hostess they invited us to their rehearsal supper tonight and partly so that we can bring DMIL to so they do not have to arrange getting her there as DBIL and DSIL are staying in Sioux Falls tonight, which is where the wedding is.
Anngie--I haven't loved The Rosie Project but it is growing on me.
Gareth--DS#1 just had to put in a new water heater this week, I guess if that was your trouble though you would most likely still be getting water out of the faucet it would just be cold. Your DS's family must be die hard packers fans.
Robin---Enjoy your wedding weekend. As I sit at my nephews wedding tomorrow I will be thinking of you. Our wedding is at 5:00---what time does yours begin?
Hi Carol and Marsha!
Well I'm off to get groceries and run a few other errands, looking forward to doing that today for some reason. I will get home and get things put away and we will need to pickup DMIL and head to SF for the rehearsal supper. A lot of driving this weekend with 2 days of going to SF, only about an hour away of course with getting to places in the city we will need to allow more time. We opted to drive back and forth as DMIL likes to stay at her own home and DD's family is coming tomorrow for the wedding and with the new baby they would rather be here. This is DH's family and we all live within a few miles of each other and see them all the time so nothing really where we won't get a chance to visit with others we never see. Not sure if I will be back on for the next few days or not so have a great labor day weekend booklovers!

The eye doctor wasn't real specific about the cataracts. He said cataracts build up gradually and that by this time next year, I will need the surgery probably. He also said if I start having trouble, blurry vision, etc., to come in then.
Karen, so sorry for your DH-a case of when it rains, it pours.
We don't have any plans at all for the long weekend. I'm going to the library later today and I may just read the whole time.
I've never had a manicure or a pedicure. I always do my own. I got a gift certificate for a pedicure when I retired 5 years ago. I have never used it. I felt like whoever came up with that idea of a gift did not know me at all. I have a hard time with new things-it makes me anxious. It took me days to go into Ulta to try some new makeup and then they didn't have testers for the brand, Maybelline, I wanted. I thought that was strange since both Walgreens and Target have testers for that brand.
DH and I both got our new shingles shot last year as well as the pneumonia. I noticed that Walgreens & CVS are already advertising flu shots. We always get them.
Pinky and Robin, enjoy the weddings.
Summer of 69-I remember hearing about Woodstock. I was on a date and the car radio station kept talking about it. Also, the moon landing. I remember sitting in my parent's living room watching it.
